  1. All sympathy, to lose a loved one is a sad occasion to lose ones child total devastation. My thoughts are with you. Blackpowder
  2. Spot on stuartp, another "wise man" issuing male cow byproduct without a thought of who is actually paying to use these waters. I dare say few navigators would like to venture forth on our salmon rivers if they were asked to pay the same fee as anglers for prime season on a prime river. Salmon dont feed in freshwater but there are times when they are willing to take a lure and times when they wont. Resident river fish will be triggered by say a hatch of dark olives to rise and feed on the surface, or they may be content to grub alonfg the river bed for snails and caddis larvae. Time of day in itself is of no concern. blackpowder
  3. Dont know what nationality these scum were , but 4 men armed with gburglary, the punishment for which I read last week will be therapy and yoga for the participants if they are caught. I think the current lot who are in control of the Scottish Parliament are even softer on criminals than Blair browns bunch of plonkers. Blackpowder
  4. Dont like the look of the soles, they appear to have the simple cross bar tread as my imitation Hunter boots which is useless on muddy inclines feet slipping all over the place. To me whatever the make cheap or expensive a ,"commando" type sole is essential for long days beating or rough shooting. Blackpowder
  5. Fly fishing for salmon, although I did enjoy 9 years with an MGBGT as my daily driver. Blackpowder
  6. If you have a good cold mains pressure , the unvented domestic hot water cylinder is the best option, hep pipe is quite ok as the unvented cylinders have a pressure reducing valve on the inlet down to 3bar in most instances with a spare connection to take cold as a balanced pressure to showers etc. There may be more noise from water flow in the pipes with 15mm but no problem with adaquate supply with appropriate pressure as cited by in other answers. The stainless steel Megaflo is hard to beat in my opinion as a brand name . Blackpowder
  7. The Longest Day, seemed fairly authentic especially the bit with The Lovats following their piper. Blackpowder
  8. Glad I missed it. Blackpowder
  9. There has arisen recent years a spate of ,"wild" camping in Scotland. This is not people putting a rucksac on their backs and heading into wild country. Rather it seems to be part of the chav class, albeit sometimes quite well financially endowed who seem to begrudge paying camping fees and set up tents, light fires and leave a mess of litter and s--t behind them. Quite right to move them on. Blackpowder
  10. If the drips are running the whole length of the overhead pipework it may be condensation. Can it be picking up residue of lime from the concrete? blackpowder
  11. Jennings of Cockermouth in the English Lake District make some excellent ales. in passing their, Sneck Lifter is a drop of potent brew. Not far from home in East Lothian, Belhaven Best from the brewery of the same name has a well established following. We also have some small brewers in the Borders producing very strong ales, Traquair , the oldest inhabited house in Scotland being but one. Bottoms up Blackpowder
  12. Hi the Avon product is called skin so soft, its not a midge repellent but one of the few applications I have tried that works , short of a full face veil. Early June should see your trip ahead of the fullblown midge season, but precautions are alwways advised in the face of ,"the curse". Blackpowder
  13. You say "pressure vessel", I take it this is a sealed system, filled to a specified pressure to a pressure gauge through a filling loop. If it was a new pressure vessel it should be preset, there should be a schnieder valve on the vessel somewhere which can be checked with a tyre pressure gauge, where also the pressure can be topped up. I hope this helps. Blackpowder
  14. I have been wearing John Norris fishing shirts for a few years now, you need a good base layer in cold weather - but as the advert says the pockets swallow up fly boxes cameras and mobile phones with no problem. A very comfortable garment in my opinion. Blackpowder
  15. Have a look at this if you like your female groups to have a bit of action. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOomWOcccx.M Blackpowder
  16. Yes give me some of it on the Cheviots for Till and Lammermuirs for Whiteadder and I'll be happy. Plenty of strong winds here in Berwickshire, I was out this afternoon to catch the last of the branchers in a rookery near here, but any not yet fully fledged were sitting tight in the nests. I managed about 10 with the .22 including an adult bird on the wing in an almost stationary hover overhead. Tried the same again a few more times but the fluke was not repeated. Blackpowder
  17. One mans downpour is another mans idea of bliss, really suffering from a lack of water in two local rivers where I have permits to fish for salmon and sea trout, both are well down to nearing mean summer levels. Tweed the main stem has plenty water from the west, but alas nothing here in the east. Blackpowder

  19. Hello markb I had a month of that in February trapped nerve or sciatica call it what you want and it was a most painfull experience. Fortunately in my case surgery was not required but it virtually brought me to my hands and knees for several days, especially when going upstairs. A couple of sessions with a chiropractor brought a kick start to recovery and at last things are returning to normal. There are a number of good internet sites which give some advice on what this back pain is all about, try googling sciatica. Best wishes foor a speedy recovery at any rate, I believe that Ian Botham the cricketer had a similair op several years ago to fuse the vertabrae, so its not new treatment but a well proven course. 20. Well said Fm and shot -shot. Our small town has two local authority employees out for an hour after every school lunch time picking up the discarded packaging from the brats lunchtime snacks. Am I right in saying it is still an offence to deposit litter, much of the above will be on CCTV, a few £20 fines and I am sure the problem would well solve itself. A bit of zero tolerance starting with litter would help towards nipping more serious offences in the bud. Blackpowder
  21. Absolutely brilliant Blackpowder
  22. Just wait untill that creepy guy with the funny eyebrows announces his budget, I think he will squeeze the pips from us drivers. Blackpowder
  23. Bullets certainly must be kept as secure as rifles locked in a gun safe ammo compartment. Not so sure about shot gun shells though. Blackpowder
