  8. A very different post from your first post my friend quote "while she is in the house the dogs go mental" I shall leave you with your problem
  9. I am not getting on my moral high horse, its called consideration for others. Sit back and think for a min, do you really think its OK for your three dogs QUOTE " Go Mental" for two hrs when your cleaner is there or the post man arrives. or a sparrow farts as it flys by. Put the shoe on the other foot, I think judging by your posts you would soon be knocking on the offending door.
  10. Yes I do, but your OP and your answer shows every one why you don't get on with you neighbors
  11. I have four dogs at the min, I some times have more, none are allowed to bark, I really don't understand why you permit your dogs to, as you say " go mental" at some one you allow in your home. I don't think the person is concerned over the welfare of your dogs or they would just call the R.S.P.C.A. or police I think she is saying this to bring your attention to the fact that the dogs are disturbing her/them as they would any one barking for two hrs that you know about, as well as the postman ect ..ect..ect Spend some time with the dogs when the cleaner is their and stop them barking, have a little consideration for the neighbors.
  12. An ESS or Cocker as Kent has said will do the job very well for you, Dont get a Brittany spaniel for Gods sake, one or two I have seen have been OK, and I mean just OK, but the good ones are few and far be-tween. I have been out on many field meets with Brittany's and have yet to see one I would like to own, so you cant put it down just the training. You cant see them if they go on point in long cover, they range like an English pointer, they are normally undershot. I could go on listing their faults but don't have an hr spare to write them all down. I think you can take it I really don't like Brittany's
  13. Its a very good idea to meet up with a friend for training, myself and hawk4sport meet up about once a week to do a little training. Its very good for the dogs to sit and watch a dog train, as well as some one else can see a way around a problem when you cant. Pity you are a bit to far off but hopefully some one will take you up on your offer. ATB
  14. Just watched the vid again and he does pick it up by its ears. If the guy had scruffed the dog I don't think people would be jumping on the band wagon to hang him out to dry I dont know the guy and even If you like his method or not, I hear he is a pritty good trainer and does get results. Old news now, this vid has been around for 12 months, I have seen far worst in the past,
  15. All depends on the dog, my middle dog (4 year old) dog did not hear a shot gun until it was 12 months old, however this pup is one of the boldest pup I have ever bred. She is a very quick learner and knows all the basics and when I say all the basics she would put a lot of peoples fully trained dogs to shame. I agree with you, normally I would not introduce a pup of ten and a half months to warm game but the pup is well in front with all of its training for its age. She took it all in her stride as the gun shot is some thing she has heard from a young age. (starting pistol at feeding times ,then training with a dummy launcher, 410) she will have very little shot over her now, just maybe once a week to keep the spark going and then just one bird and home.
  16. I will gladly return the favour Andy, but there is a good chance I will miss the pigeon...lol
  17. I bred a litter of pups for my oldest lab last year, firstly because I think she was well worth breeding from and secondly because I wanted to keep one back for myself. Since the pup was six month old I have put a good few hrs into training her. Over the past couple of week and with all the basics done, I felt the pup was starting to get a little fed up with the training. I have changed training fields, introduced new dummies, but it was a bit same old same old for the pup. I decided she would benefit from some warm birds to spark her up a bit. I gave Hawk4sport a call, as I don’t like to shoot over my pups for the fist time preferring to concentrate on the dog. We went over to a small farm I shoot, we tucked in next to an old cowshed where there is a field with little maze left as it was to wet to lift and a few pigeons still feeding on it. I am sure the pup thought the gun was the dummy launcher, as she never took her eyes off it. First bird over and Hawk4sport did the honors and dropped it. I sent the pup out but she stopped just short on her run out, I put the hunt whistle on her and she soon found it and did a lovely retrieve. Job done and home. Thank you very much Hawk4sport, MR Dickweed as we call him.
  18. I apologize, as your post under my OP you seem to imply that it was not sticky, but now you seem to be agreeing that it is. . Anyway off out with Hawk4sport now to do some dog training, not talk about it.
  19. If you are going to talk about dog training at least know what things mean or ask " It showed signs of not being sure whether it was actually doing what the trainer wanted or not" is sticky! Unsure what is wanted of it, lacking in confidence, unwilling to leave the trainer and move freely STICKY meaning lacking in confidence for what ever reason, as I dont know the dog.
  20. Picking the dog up by its ears is not the done thing, apart from that his methods are similar to most trainers. All dogs are different, the dog he was training was a bit sticky, so imo the trainer needed to step back a little and make more of a fuss of the dog when it did well. A kind word can some times give back more than a quick slap on the bum, but some times a quick slap is necessary. A lot on here seem to talk the talk, but can you train a dog with out giving it a quick slap or scruff?
  21. I do not know if its OK to put this on, but I am sure one of the mods will move it or take it off if its not. A friend of mine has set up this day and I think this will be a good day out for anyone who is interested in Gundogs.
  22. Yes it was, and I told him the reasons why people use this method and that it MAY or MAY NOT help depending on the dog. I also told him of the other reasons people use this method when training with an older dog or pup of the same age it some times can be very useful 1: it may help to improve the keenest of your dog to retrieve, as some one has stated. 2: it will improve its steadiness 3: it will get it used to being around other dogs and taking commands, rather than thinking about playing with other dogs. PS I do train gundogs, and not only mrmiints will read this post, other people who may be having a problem who perhaps do not use a trainer may get a useful tip. This is the hole idea of a dog training section, to share your experiences, ask questions if you are having a problem that you feel other may be able to help with.
  23. Your first question should of been, is my bitch worth breeding from, second have I found the best dog for the bitch, and then done a little research in to breeding dogs. Asking the question after the event is a little backwards don't you think. I normally mate a bitch every other day when she is flagging (putting her tail right over) this allows the dogs sperm count to build up. If you want to know if she is in pup have her scanned at 4 or 5 week or just wait she should show at 6 or 7 weeks. feed normally up to the last week or so. All a bit cart before the horse.
