  1. Lesson to all. Don't rest on your laurels if you have only one piece of land to shoot over. Get as many as you can. It's a nice problem to have when you have to decide which piece to visit.
  2. The PRIC report is interesting. It gives insight into how the police Standard Operations Policy works which seems very reasonable. The fact that there were two signed statements against the farmer gave the police no option but to arrest the farmer and charge him. The fact that he was acquitted at trial shows the system worked. If he was acquitted there seems to be no reason for him not to have got his guns and certificate back. Hope he did. Lesson to all don't go out looking for poachers with a loaded shotgun.
  3. Old Speckled Hen, is my favourite. Has anyone noticed that the canned stuff isn't as good as the bottled.
  4. Nice gun, I've had mine for over 6 yrs now.
  5. Yep, we could all run around clubbing everything
  6. I had my ticket changed to ALQ specifically in response to my request for dogs worrying sheep. Farmer lost 19 sheep to a dog. .223 sorts a dog just as easily as a fox. The ticket was changed the same day. Really good service.
  7. I had a similar situation a few years ago. Did just as Gordon suggested. Police were great and discrete. A couple of weeks later they did a raid and found that it wasn't just soft drugs. It has to be done.
  8. I'm with you Scully, when you are doing a pest control exercise sport doesn't come into it. When you have seen the damage that Canadas do on crops and on Golf courses the job has to be done. I agree with the other view that if you are under a flight for sport then a couple of brace is probably enough. They are bloody heavy to carry off. I've carried 3 and wouldn't want to carry more over rough ground with a gun and gear! As for numbers I prefer my eyes to numbers dreamt up by so called experts. I've never seen so many Canadas, if they are not controlled they will get out of control. It's a question of balance. It may be they are in decline in your area and if so they would not be in plague numbers and so not the problem that I see in my area.
  9. Not difficult to dispatch the young after sorting the parents.
  10. Yes, I too find it best to snipe them when you are doing pest control. I use either 17hmr or 223 depending on back stop. Usually you only get a shot at one or two before they take flight but after a couple of goes the rest take the hint and move off. Job done.
  11. Come on mate a 17hmr is nothing like any FAC air.
  12. I guess if you where challenged you could say you were using it to scare the birds, as required to do before using lethal force. Then you would be entitled to shoot anything on the general license that wasn't scared off and and was still covering the GL conditions.
  13. My experience is that FAC air ricochet as much if not more than .22lr
