  1. Grandkids home from University. Two decided they wanted to come out with me this morning before daybreak to see the squirrels 6 Red Squirrels appeared at the same time, but no greys.
  2. Another large male, shot by my friend in the Red Squirrel wood, got to keep at ‘em! 3409
  3. I just use a pull through, every time I use it. 👍
  4. We don’t have any problems with EDF, yes the first refund from the government was delayed 3 days, but subsequent ones have come into our account same day. Our EDF bills come every 3 months and with the smart meter I can see we are holding our own.
  5. Above fox badger and deer height if you have them about, with a backstop.
  6. Yes, it’s great when you see the Reds again, but as you say it’s a continual battle to keep the grey numbers down. One or two people consistently onto the greys can make a difference over a wide area but it really needs a landscape wide approach from an army of volunteers together with commitment from landowners large and small to really kee the numbers down.
  7. The war of attrition pays off. Went out before daybreak this morning. -3c. Sat in the hide in front of the feeder. Waited until 8.30am and a Red squirrel pops up on the feeder, closely followed by another Red. These two start chattering and chasing each other. Another Red arrives and takes advantage of the others being distracted and snatches a peanut from the feeder, then another. Then the dispute is ended and the others return for a feed. After an hour and a half, no greys appear. So off home. Then this afternoon well away from that wood a large female finds itself confined in a trap. We just need to keep at ‘em and make space for the Reds.
  8. I doubt that Wildcat have a leaned on. It makes business sense to put serial numbers on so that the can’t be swapped. Therefore you have to buy another!
  9. I think it is pretty much the same stuff. I use Creacote on fences and gates. It’s a really good preservative, and very cheap. If you want to improve it you can mix in some black bitumen paint, not too much or it won’t sink into the wood so well.
  10. Useful for target practice
  11. Another shot by me. One trapped by a friend and another two shot by a another friend. Yes, I do have two friends 😳 Total 3366
  12. If it’s a listed building you won’t get away with plastic or grp
  13. Another two, one trapped and one shot this morning off a woodland feeder. 3271
  14. Would it be possible for you to bring some of those Acorns back, I’d like to try my hand at growing some this year. I could pick them up at the weekend.
  15. They are coming back to the peanuts, this one was on the ground beneath the feeder.
  16. I’ve tried several types in my various air rifles, accuracy seems inconsistent. When you are shooting live quarry you have a responsibility to be accurate with consistency. If you can’t be consistent then you are going to miss or maimed too many. If you are shooting to a squirrel feeder you’ll get bounce back a ricochets, which are too dangerous. The Health and Safety Executive have a consultation open until 6th November. I strongly urge anyone who has genuine concerns about non lead ammunition for both air rifles and .22lr., to submit a response. Otherwise lead ammo could become banned. Those that I know have done serious testing of the non lead ammo have not found any offerings that are available provide consistent accuracy beyond 15 metres.
  17. Has anyone experience in find any success with non lead pellets for air rifles either sub 12 or FAC?
  18. Really great to hear you’ve weathered the Chinese storm. A great start to your autumn season.
  19. Forgefast from Toolstation. Torx bit supplied in every box. I’ve been using them for several years. More recently I’ve changed over to using pneumatic nail guns. Much faster and cheaper, if you ignore the cost of the guns. Stainless steel nails hold tight and don’t rust.
  20. I’ve been out of action for 10 weeks or so because of surgery. Before I went in to hospital I filled up my large feeder in a conservation wood. Having arranged for a friend to keep it covered during my absence I was amazed to hear that for the last eight weeks it hasn’t been touched. Now, that’s a wood where I took over a hundred squirrels from last year. This year I’ve had 34 up until 7th July, which was my last visit.
