I suggest everyone who has an interest provides a response to the HSE consultation. It’s open until 6th November 2022. Your response would be best from an evidence point of view. I for one have tried several non lead air gun pellets and not found any reliably accurate beyond 15 metres. That’s both in sub 12 and FAC. FAC was better than sub 12.Others experience may be different. I’ve personally not found a problem with steel shot on live quarry using 12 or 20g. .22lr would be a problem, doesn’t seem to be a great deal of non lead ammo about in the Uk. 17hmr is ok as I already have non lead. Centre fire seems ok in non lead albeit a bit pricey.

I didn’t see them myself, but the picture was taken by a “birder” at a wildlife and wetlands reserve nearby. I’ll listen for their distinctive calls this evening

Thanks for sharing that article, very informative and understanding. I just hope those who have funded the legal challenges thus far gain some understanding and call it a day, even put some of their considerable resources into a forensic examination of what led to him being found unconscious. Too many kids shut themselves in their rooms and detach themselves from those who live them.

I’m not sure what the ammo situation is in NZ for 6.5x55 Swed. However in I find my Sako 85 in that calibre is excellent.

Returning to the Archie topic. Yes, a tragedy to loose a child. Now they are calling for an enquiry into the legal system. If any enquiry is required it must surely be into the events that led to the young boy being found unconscious. An on line challenge? Who set it up and how can it be stopped from happening again. IMHO that’s where the emphasis should now be.

I still prefer my wellies. I use the neoprene dirt boots and haven’t had a tick on me for years. I only go out In the early morning and in woodland so it’s still pretty cool. In my clothing the only thing I change is the top shirt / fleece/ jacket according to the season. Always keeping my arms covered as much to remain concealed as to protect from mosquitoes. When the mosquitoes are bad I will put deet on my forehead and behind my ears.

IMHO deet will not stop ticks and the land @Mice! Shoots has a serious tick burden. I’d stick with the wellies, particularly as it’s cooled off a lot.

Any update Nev. Just had my foot rebuilt with a bone fusion. 6 weeks non load bearing then 6 weeks in a pneumatic boot. The surgeon said the boot was not designed to make me bounce like Tigger. 🤣 I thought this might be a suitable option, fair to say SWMBO needs a little more work. 😳

Well I was sitting out watching the birds busying themselves on the bird feeder which I have hanging beneath a squirrel feeder. My gun wasn’t even ready, and a squirrel appears on the tree behind the feeder and promptly drops onto the feeder and in a moment lifts the lid for a nut. I have to get up for my gun and the squirrel jumps back into the bushes. I load the gun and sit back to wait. Within a couple of minutes the squirrel returns and helps itself to another monkey nut. Sitting on the platform I slowly raise the gun and place the cross hairs on the top of its head because it’s closer than my normal zero. Safety off, squeeze the trigger and the perfect head shot drops it on the spot. Another for the FAC FX Verminator. Yes, they are on the green Scots pine cones here
