    .25 CAL

Hi Ian, i am a big fan of the .25 calibre i own a sub 12fpe bsa lightning .25 in fac a springer webley patriot.25 at 30fpe and a mk1 rapid.25 at 50fpe, i use the bsa for ratting , and the patriot and rapid for bunnies etc, Ian this calibre stops a tank the trauma damage to prey means instant death. In the rapid i use H&N Barracuda pellets at 31grain , the patriot uses H&N FTT pellets. the rapid shoots accurately to 75 yds+ instant knockdown power. no runners or twichers, i must admit i love this calibre i also own and shoot all the other calibres as well. Give it a go you will love it , if you need any help pls pm me always help fellow shooters. atb brian
  2. i was out in a small wood shooting on my new permission its an old rectory with 15 acres of ground inc of large pond with good tree cover and lots of pigeon droppings and various copses and a small wood , my main prey was magpies and crows, i set out my bait a gutted bunny, my hide was built into a large hedge with a good backdrop and no light able to high light me, i was using my fac s400 .22 @30fpe and bis mag pellets i also set out some mag and crow decoys, inc 2 mag decoys in a nearby bush then sat and waited for about 40 mins i heard the chacking call of a couple of maggies and one flew into the bush where my decoys were i let it settle and a few mins later the other maggie flew in as well , one flew to the bunny carcase and started pecking at it , while the other maggie was still in the bush wondering why no response from my decoys , so i decided to shoot the feeding maggie nicely ranged at 35 yds a bis mag in the chest soon flattened him the other one flew off, i set out the shot maggie as a bait with its guts out , 15 mins later there were 3 maggies trying to eat their dead friend i shot 2 of these and later another 1and also shot 2 crows , and then nr to the pond 4 woodies in 2 sitty trees . a good days shooting at a promising new shoot. regds brian
  3. i agree with the majority on this one .22 or .25 is the way to go in fac, i currently use a rapid mk-1 .22 @40fpe and am changing calibre to .25, all this has occured since a cheap fac springer a .25 webley patriot came my way and the impact and accuracy really impressed me , i am not giving up .22 as a air arms fac s400 extra .22 has just come my way at a good price, atb brian
  4. hi noluv6, as far as i am concerned you are talking cobblers about ben taylor , i have had several guns off him and have friends whose guns have been done by him , no problems and the guns are much improved than standard i have found him to be very helpful and knowledgeable man, and the 2 break ins he suffered was the reason for stopping his gundealing activities ,and on the bbs he is a highly respected and helpful member. regards brian
  5. hi, spaniel, what make is it ? and to shoot rabbits you need to be able to hit repeatedly a ten pence piece at 25 yds because rabbits need to be shot in the head between the eye and ear to kill instantly, pointed pellets are not very accurate and the best pellets for hunting are the domed type , hard hitting and accurate, so good luck and let us know how you get on regds brian
  6. Hi Lee, your thumper sounds an awesome piece of kit, the requirements on my permissions means i am upping my fac rapid mk-1 to .25 calibre @ 50fpe with bisley mag or H&N Barracuda 30 grain pelletsis good for 70yds+ as a lot of my shoots is open land with little cover but not suitable for centre fire or rimfire because of roads /public footpaths and lack of suitable backstops for safety, i have been usuing the .25 calibre in a sub 12fpe airgun and i love the knockdown power of this calibre at 25-30 yds range its devasting to rats ,grey sqirrels, feral pigeons. atb brian
  7. Hi Lee, Great looking guns, i bet thumper knocks them over, out of interest whats the power and range?!! atb brian
  8. hi overbets, welcome to the forum , it sounds from your post you have got your head screwed on, and the lads on here give their useful and helpful advice, well done PW as already said lots of practise and then live prey i would keep your ranges down to 25yds and good luck , safe ans happy shooting, pls remember help is aiways available on here. atb brian
  9. hi guys, i had a call from the farmer of my local farm shoot he has a major rook problem on a field of sprouting animal feed beans, the rooks eating them and doing major crop damage,so yesterday morning i set up while it was still dark a hide in a place advised by the famer , the farmer had dumped 6 straw bales so i used these to build a hide with some telescopic hide poles as well and a couple of camo nets , then set out the decoys and some flappers, Weapons of choice my fac rapid mk1.22 at 40fpe+bis mag pellets and my 12g remy1100 shot gun so i settled down and soon as it was hardly light the recce rooks were about settling on a near by tree , about 20 mins later a large flock came in and landed about 40 yds out where my deeks ended, i let them settle down and start feeding and took aim with my rapid at one large rook a chest shot absolutely bowled him over ,panic erupting amongst his mates cawing like hell and flying around like demented helicopters a whole lot landed nr the dead rook and i quickly shot 3 more before the rest took off, gents i have,nt had so much shooting fun for ages i finished the morning with 10 dead rooks the most i have ever shot with an airgun, rooks are not a normal problem on this farm but this large flock had gone bean barmy , i had my flask of hot soup and got out my trusty remy 1100 12g semi auto shottie and set up 7 oF the dead rooks as decoys i use large meat skewers that my late mother used to use stuck through under the rooks beaks and propping them up, i didn,t have to wait long they soon came back not in a larege flock but 5-10 at a time i soon passed my mornings total and over the next 2hrs shot 18 rooks , before they had enough and disappeared the total bag 28 rooks and one very happy farmer. atb brian

  11. hi hoskinz i bet your rapid is .22 calibre because of the 7 shot mags , these guns are very good i own 3 , .177, .22, .20 the .22 is my fac gun set at 40fpe ,the other 2 are sub 12fpe ,i hope you enjoy the rapid. atb brian
  12. hi kkal, get a s410 in .22 a very good all round pcp or a bsa ulta multishot .22 ,go to agunshop and try for size, weight, whether it fits you. atb brian
  13. hi, carbon the ultra multishot in .22 would be ideal for nv ratting i use a fx verminator in .22 with a deben stinger torch , but i am going to put my yukon nvmt monocular on it when i get the dsa etc good luck with it. atb brian
  14. Hello Brian.. I love my Beeman R1 in .25, but it seems fewer pellet manufacturers are making them? You have that problem Hi Lee, i use H&N FTT .25 Pellets with excellent results so perhaps you can source some on the internet. i use these at sub 12fpe and at 28fpe. regards brian
  15. hi, lee i own a theoben rapid .20 @11.75 fpe it is a very accurate and a good pest control gun , i also own a .25 webley patriot fac springer @28fpe this is my bazooka it just blows prey away , the .25 pellets really do a lot of trauma damage i try as always for head shots because of the tissue damage, i shot a large rat about 1 hour ago with the .25 patriot fron 25yds and its virtualy in half i am sure enjoying this calibre regds brian
  16. hi guys i have had a whole afternoons sitty/roost tree pigeon shooting, i got into position in the copse at 1pm as i know the pigeons often arrive about 2pm+ for an afternoon rest , now i shoot this copse only once a month so as not too drive the pigeons away, i positioned myself under a nice tree covered in ivy but within 20 yds of the main sitty trees , in a nearby old hollow tree stump i keep an old camo net , i spread that out over the lower branches behind me to break up my silouette got comfortable on the fishing stool, made sure my .20 rapid was ok and waited for the first sound of the whirrrrrrrrrr of pigeons wings in 30 mins of waiting, a pigeon flew in the tree right above my head i already had the gun in the raised position so there is little movement it scare off the pigeons , all i could see through the ivy was the back end of the pigeon so i let him settle after a a few moments the pigeon was side on so i got a nice under the wing fold shot a nice thwock as the H&N ftt pellet struck home and the thud of the woodie hitting the ground, in the next hour i shot 4 more woodies all head or back of neck shots,i had a quiet session from 3pm till 3-25 then the roost pigeons come in from 3-30pm onwards but befofe that at the bottom end of the copse i could hear the distinct noise of 2/3 maggies i kept very still because i knew the tree to my right is often used by magpies as a lookout tree, sure enough after a few moments 2 of them flew onto the very top branch of the tree giving me a lovely clear shot whch hit the r/hand maggie right in the chest , the 2nd one flew off cackling loudly as his mate hit the ground, i left the maggie on the ground because the roost pigeons started arriving in the next 40mins i managed 5 more woodies at 4-10pm i packed up it was getting dark, i t was a very good afternoons pigeon shooting ,its the biggest bag i have had from this copse 10 woodiees and a maggie as well this is my early xmas box i would like to wish you all a happy xmas and new year. regds brian
  17. hi lee, looks like a career 707 or a sang yang ,any way nice looking gun i had a .22 career 707 myself at 30------80fpe an excellent gun, whats the calibre etc etc. regds brian
  18. hi laf, if i remember rightly it costs about 75 quid or there abouts. regds brian
  19. hi beaker, the expression comes from engineers blue which is used on say a set of engine cases to show up any high spots ,in an airgun it means taking it apart smoothing out any rough bits polishing the internals and generally improving a standard gun and when JB does it you will notice a vast improvement, get it done if you can, regds brian
  20. hi duck, forget the stealth its ****, go for a 2nd hand hw95k or a hw97/77 or the air arms tx2oo all of these are very good it depends what suits you for weight etc go to a gunshop and try some out, atb brian
  21. hi cleankill i can,t find on this thread any bad mouthing about cometa,s just the observation that the hw guns have better triggers and last for years, cometa and gamo make good guns but you can buy better , then again its down to personal choice, and what fits you and your pocket. atvb brian
  22. hi, lowlander for 180 quid your mate should be able to buy on the forums 2nd hand a wierauch HW95k a much better gun it has the best trigger on a springer, if he wants cometa go for the 400 its better than the 300, but the German gun is better, i go by the old saying pay peanuts you get the m-----y regds brian
  23. hi, pete welcome to the forum , the hw77 is a good gun , if these pellets are jsb exacts they are very good, also try Air Arms Field .177 , try these out first and see how they compare. regds brian
  24. Hi bigthug i don,t kill this fox because he cleans up all my deseased bunnies, full of shot, pigeons, rats, i only shoot foxes with my 12g remy 1100 shotgun with no-2 cartridgesi would never use an airgun. regds brian
