  1. Digger- Your not on 'em mate! Get in front of 'em!! Feathers everywhere mean your only pricking 'em at the tail end, a good clean front end kill does not detach any feathers!! I use 23gr 7's in my twenty bore with great effect!!!
  2. PLEASE CHECK OUT - IN 'OTHER TYPES OF SHOOTING' THE TWO POSTS BY 'FLIGHTLINE' REGARDING CHANGES TO THE GENERAL LICENCE UNDER WHICH WE ALL SHOOT PIGEONS BECAUSE IF THE CHANGES ARE IMPLEMENTED WE WON'T BE ABLE TO SHOOT PIGEONS ANY MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Hey Leon, I hope you are aware that it is illegal to use ANY electronic call/sounds, which mimic natural bird calls, especially to bring them into range for shooting at!
  4. Hi JONO Let me tell where the pigeons really are : 1/ On any grass with emerging clover. 2/ In ancient woodlands where Ivy is plentiful.(they just love the berries) 3/ Among the hedgerows looking for Hawthorn buds and more Ivy berries. 4/ On rough ploughed land newly spread with chicken ****.(take a gas mask and wear your old gear and wellies) 5/ On most freshly sown corn/beans. 6/ Some on OSR where no-one has disturbed them for several days. 7/ and finally in parks and gardens everywhere. So who needs 'guides' - only the 'scouts' methinks. Whoa thar boy!
  5. Not sure exactly what Mascalero means when he says "over-shot" I don't think you can over shoot any where, the birds are either coming in or their not, if you join NPPC you can ask which fields have recently been visited and what the results were. My own experience has taught me to always look on the bright side and treat each day as different, for sure there is no logic to the day to day movement of pigeons, and now we know (see todays red top tabliods) they only follow roads, so thats why I always do well near the motorway and often only get (ex)racers, I thought it was my fieldcraft. If you only have a certain day available each week or month then the main ingrediant for a good day out for you is a four letter word begining with L. Seriously - the guy at NPPC is very helpful.
  6. You may call a pigeon by any name you like, I think Percy is quite suitable. Actually, I have a vintage ACME PIGEON CALLER which I might consider selling for a fair price, no, maybe I will enter it on Ebay!!
  7. The only choker for a pigeon is pressure with thumb and forefinger on top of neck. Choke in your shot gun barrels - well, first pattern the gun to determine if it shoots to point of aim, it may require surgery, then consider chokings. Cylinder will do nicely, but learn to regulate your barrel chokings by using different cartridges, you will discover that one brand/shot size/weight will suffice for pigeon and most game. If you use the same gun for clay targets, simply change cartridges, weight/shot size, much easier than screwing around with small tubes!! Don't shoot 'till you can see the yellow of their eyes.
  8. Why walk anywhere. I shute out of the back of my ex-army(in camo) lightweight L/R rag top at every opportunity! My best bag to date 88.
  9. Plumage: Head, neck, nape, back, tail - blue/grey. Wing coverts, tip of tail - black. Side of neck green/purple with prominent white patches. Outer wing scapulars distinctively white. Breast - purplish/brown - belly much paler. Pinkish bill - pink legs - pale yellow eyes. Male/female look similar. Juveniles(1styear) lack white neck patches. Movement: Normal flight is fast and direct;with a noisey clatter when flushed from trees;in display flaps upwards at a steep angle, gliding down with wings scarcley upraised and will repeat this several times;also walks. Flocking: A very sociable bird, also feeding with Stock Doves(no white anywhere on this a smaller bird, which is not on the quarry list) Habitat: All types of wooded country, feeding in both trees and adjacent open fields, inparticular arable fields;also town parks and gardens. Range and status: Resident, breeding right across the UK. This beautiful, gentle bird is the greatest enemy of British agriculture and by far the most testing target for the wing shooting enthusiast. Unfortunatly, for many hunters,it has been programmed by a higher being and successfully evades the tricks and mechanical lures much in use today. My advice to the hunter planning a days decoying is: Expect nothing, but, reconsider your tactics after each hour of inactivity. Keep watching !
  10. No,your wrong, there is no "largest legal airgun quarry" It is perfectly legal to shoot foxes with an air weapon.
