  1. Small family / syndicate pheasant shoot in North Shropshire, around Overton on Dee area, looking for beaters with dogs to join our friendly team for the coming season. We have 8 driven days starting end of October with all our shoot days being Saturday, lunch provided with remuneration. Please PM me for more information.
  2. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I have been using 'bird puller' and aniseed for the last couple of seasons but also not convinced of benefits but makes me feel better. Soaking split maize & wheat with the spice in the mix was a new one on me. I couldn't see how broadcasting the resulting 'stew' loosely in to specific areas would give any benefit?? Cheers!
  3. A keeper local to me swears by soaking split maize & corn overnight before adding spice and casting out in to rides, with the idea that this pulls & holds birds. Has anyone head of this or doing the same?? Cheers.
  4. Has anyone been here for shooting ....
  5. Merry Christmas - great sentiments from fellow fowlers. Heres to a great end to the season and keep safe and enjoy.
  6. For the last 4 years we have put 1100 pheasant poults down in 3 pens over 250 acres and usually see a return between 43 to 48%. But to be honest we have found that increasing the numbers of birds doesn’t necessarily lead to better returns. In years gone by we had returns in excess of 50% with 750 birds in 2 pens. This year has been particularly difficult due to large amount of natural food available so late in to the year, all the shoots in our area are struggling to hold birds so next year we will be concentrating on improving the infrastructure, thinning woods to encourage better ground cover, increasing the size and quality of game covers etc.
  7. Like I said, service is good but thats not really the issue ....... they have replaced the zip twice on mine but do I really want to keep sending the thing back?!
  8. Where was the place xav - can you PM me with the details please? Had the same problem twice now although the service from RW was good its getting tedious to say the least. Regards
  9. Its a shotgun, misfiring / double discharging.
  10. Hi can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the North Shropshire area, I need to get some work done on couple of guns and have not needed the services of a gunsmith for some time? I am will ing to travel a reasonable distance to get a good service. Thanks.
  11. I hear its the same all over, we had our 3 rd shoot yeaterday, the birds were thin on the ground and scattered over areas that we dont usually see them!
  12. 90% takes me further than Wigin but its orr reet owd lad. e sed "eh many on yer an yer ower yon yoo"?
  13. And how far do you go with that one pray tell? Do we limit / control bag's on ALL types of game shooting or just the ones that the majority consider to be on the fringe (?) and then while were at it lets look at controlling numbers on the pest species as well? Trouble is that once pandoras box is open its very difficult to shut the lid! Discussion is a good thing and self restriction is great, self control even better ....... but lets not forget this is a PUBLIC forum.
  14. This clip has already done the rounds on various forums and further discussion on bag limits can only do further harm and give ammunition to those who would wish to put restraints in place. Suggest we wildfowlers and sporting shooters agree enough dirty laundry has been aired!?
