have a hotsoldering iron handy...incase you cut too deep the blood willpee out and a quick dab with it will seal it.....i had a jack russell once ...to cut its nails ...you have to wear full body armour and kill it and shove it down a gum boot..............

    😂😂😂😂

  2. He’s just fulfilling the dog prey sequence (as far as he’s concerned)

    stalk > chase>catch>kill bite>dissect>eat

In many dogs this is engrained into their character regardless of breed - well actually, it’s this trait that works in our favour in most dogs, it just requires honing!

In order to break / interrupt this sequence you need to make whatever you’re doing as a result of him fetching it back to you more exciting then his self gratification in carrying out the behaviour. If you see what I mean.

What do you do if / when he brings a retrieve back out of interest?

It’s also worth mentioning that dogs don’t generalise well - when you change the picture for them ie from the garden to a shooting scenario he may genuinely not understand what’s expected of him PLUS as others have already said, it’s Uber exciting and he’ll be on the edge anyway 😂

I have been training dogs for over forty years and in my experience this is far too early to think about any training other than recognise your name and come when called. Whatever the book might say my advice is put it away and read it again in several months time. If you want to read and use a book “Total Recall” by Pippa Mattinson is all you need at this age.
As to treats it is the only way to go. Why else would a pup want to do anything for you when it hasn’t  even built the bond yet?

The things you describe I am only just getting into at 6 months with my current lab although we do have recall….using treats, 90% nailed on.

    Good luck and relax!

If you know the breeder and whelped them, could you not contact and ask regarding the KC paperwork? Seems strange for them to say the dog is but then never get the paper work from them.

He definitely is, I’ve found him on MyKC. I’ve chased the breeder many times but have since given up.

  5. Lovely little cocker dog for sale, make a super easy beating dog. Yellow / golden roam (I’m not very au fait with colours!)

Environmentally sound, loves a tennis ball and returns it to hand. Knows sit and recalls well. Just an all round jolly cocker. He was going to be my daughter’s first sniffer dog but just doesn’t quite have the ‘oomph’ for it and is a little too laid back for the job.

He’d make a lovely family pet / easy working dog.

Docked, dew clawed, microchipped, vaccinated. KC reg but we never received the papers from his breeder so selling as not KC 🤷‍♀️🙄

£1500 ono, N Wales, Nr Chester.

I get that but if you do ever get a chance to train with someone who is experienced with it, I'd give it a try, it really can be a game changer, particularly when getting into advanced training, it really allows you to sharpen things up, particularly in getting a dog into exact positions or timings.

Very true, Pablo throws himself into his positions ie ‘down’ so fast it’s comical 😂

  7. The clicker is simply there to mark the behaviour you want, that’s all. It shouldn’t be used to get the dog’s attention.

Have a look at this - I’ve not watched it all the way through but hopefully it’ll clear things up a bit

  8. Just love this photo of my 15 year old lad and his gundog that I took tonight. They’re joined at the hip and have an incredible bond - he’s had and worked her on shoots and walked up since he was 10.

Shes the only dog on the big commercial shoot near us that’s exempt from being on the lead, even at the big flushing points.

Wouldn't think it to look at her but she hunts so hard and fast she turns brambles to matchsticks! (Well obviously she doesn’t but you get my drift!)

She came into the house whilst she was recovering from having some lumps removed from her legs and never went back out in the kennel 🙈

Inseparable pair - I swear he loves that dog more than he loves me 🙄
