Id go with it being field elm (Ulmus minor) as the leaves don't look long enough to be wytch elm. Not really an expert in Elm though so could be corrected, more confident in being able to identify the common dead elm!

An Axminster awvsl100 which is the older version of the AC370WL this linky came up on gumtee only a 1 1/2 hour drive away including the chuck package, tail stock chuck and crown cryogenic 5 piece set for a steal. It had barely been used, was owned by a carpenter who said his woodworking very quickly went away from turning. I figured as its a variomatic drive he would be better at fixing it if it goes wrong, as a semi retired farmer he's pretty good with mechanical problems but not so good with electrics! Just got to wait until the end of May now to see if he appreciates it. Will go and buy a copy of the magazine aw we are going away for the weekend of his birthday and the lathe is a bit big to take with us. Thinks for all the tips. Unfortunately the Lidl one was at the start of the month and seems to be sold out in all our local stores, it was a bargain at £59.99. They are available on ebay form people selling them on at £100 after buying them to make a profit. Whilst I done have a problem with people making a bit of profit these people buy the things they know will sell and they are gone for people who actually want to use them. Also as they are bought from ebay you do not get a Lidl receipt so doesn't come with the three year warrantee. Have had a look at the Axminster lathes but by the time you have bought everything, chisels, chucks its fair adds up! Will keep an eye on marketplace, gumtree etc and see what comes up, got a couple of months. Only problem with that is living in Aberdeenshire everything ends up being the other end of the country and with the cost of fuel and a thirsty pick-up makes travelling more than an hour away unfeasible.

My old man is 70 soon and mentioned the other day he was going to buy the lathe they had in Lidl but didn’t as his shed is not finished yet. So we are thinking to get him a semi-decent lathe for his birthday day and some tools for it. I have no idea where to start unfortunately! What do you need to look for in a decent lathe and what tools are required… need to figure out if we can afford it!

Sorry, I worded it badly!!! Will edit my comment. I should have said specific chainsaw protective gloves. Completely agree with you, gloves should be worn at all times for all the factors you list above. Have worked as an arborist part time for the last 5 years and even in the warmest heat in the middle of summer gloves must be worn. Never have I seen anyone wearing chainsaw protective gloves except during training courses!

From my experience do not bother with the chaps. They are awkward to put on and uncomfortable so you are less likely to use them especially if just for a short period. I have a pair of Oregon Yukon trousers and have used them for about 5 years, they are comfortable and don't get too hot! Also don't bother with gloves with chainsaw protection, everyone I know just uses them for their training and they never go on again, everyone just uses standard gloves like builders grip gloves.

My Uncle was in a very similar situation with one of his Dalmatians, gave him a chance after the first time, second time was a one way trip to the vet. He said he didn't even consider rehome as he was very experienced dog owner including dalmatians and would just be passing the problem on to someone possibly less able to deal with it.

This is correct. I would put a bet that the instructions in the package have no mention of equivalent light output as it is irrelevant to safety.

The reference to equivalent wattage is what is causing confusion but shouldn't really be there as the light fitting does not have an equivalent wattage unless it comes with bulbs. The listing states 3x E27 GLS Max. 42W bulbs required, this means that the wiring within the fitting can take 3 x 42W bulbs. Theoretically you could fit 3 x 42W LED bulbs into the fitting but you would need sunglasses to go into the room as you would have an equivalent of somewhere around 300W per bulb and would be brighter than the sun!😎

If you live even slightly rurally and have the option a wood burner could be worth its weight in gold if the power goes out. You never know when you might end up without power and heating!

Not much being mentioned in the news but there are still quite a lot of people without power in Aberdeenshire, they are slowly getting most back on but some have now been old it may be tomorrow evening or beyond before they are connected again, only 5 nights without power. Some of these areas dropped to -7°C overnight on Saturday. The Scottish government don't seem to care and the SNP are more concerned with their party conference to push another referendum so the community are having to come together to help those in need. Local cafes have been setting up food and hot drink stalls, companies have been supplying generators to community halls for somewhere warm for people to go, hotels with power have been allowing people to stay over free of charge.

Long time since I had a D22 and cant remember if mine had a lock as I never use the locks on my tailgates but I have found the link below which tells you how to fit an actuator to the frontier (US version of the Navara). If you don't have an existing lock the mechanism may still be there. If you have decent tyres traction is not a problem, however the best tyres for wet grass are not the same best tyres for wet roads. I have Grabber AT and don't have problems on wet grass, if there is ant slipping just engage 4wd and not much will stop me, have actually recovered a duster whilst whilst still hitched to its caravan which was stuck on a slightly hilly campsite, just told him to leave it in neutral and just steer to follow me. The ATs can be a bit tail happy in the wet if you done expect it, you just need to remember not to accelerate too hard coming off roundabouts or tight corners and all is fine. I have never been turned away from a campsite in a pick up, whilst they are officially a commercial every place I have asked say they only don't allow most vans and especially transit tippers! One site said if they didn't allow pick ups they would be turning away about 15% of their business.

Maybe not a big difference on insurance but definitely cheaper on fuel. My existing pick up gets 26mpg on general driving and 22mgp ish whilst towing our caravan (swift challenger 574). My old one got 18mpg on general driving and a pittyful 13mpg whilst towing 🙈

They can be battery operated but must be a sealed battery which lasts the lifetime of the alarm (7 years).

I fitted fireguard+ to a few properties, on advantage of them is that the packages come with a remote to silence them which comes in handy!
