  1. Thank you SAVAGE HMR,at last someone that dosen't think i'm lying through my teeth!
  2. Listen al4x,i started off with an archer and the longbow is far better! I've got so much stick over the post i made about the rabbit i shot, but what i will say is that its the truth! it just seems that some people feel threatand about what i did,and thats a shame because it was one of those moments which you wont to share with other people because they dont happen that often! As to the range finder, its a zeiss,so one of the best out there! I,ve been shooting for forty years and find the negative comments about what i did disappointing as i joined pigeon watch to share the good and bad times when out shooting! What i will say is that i am more than willing to back up what i've already said i,ve done to anybody that has doubted my word!
  3. Im just going to do one last post on the subject of the rabbit i shot at 435,and yes it was a true account of what happend! I practice at ranges from 300-600 yards on all sizes of targets. I know what my rifle, bullet and scope combo is doing at all ranges from my inch hige zero out to 600 yards. And as i said in the first post, there was no wind, and thats the hard part of taking long distance shots, without any wind you can hit your target nearly every time if you know your bullet drop! As for if i could see clearly if it was a rabbit, all i can is that if i couldn't i would not have taken the shot. I dont shoot at eyes and always make sure i know what animal it is before i fire! im sorry if people think i made up a tall story just to big myself up,but it was the truth. I just thought some like minded shooters would like to hear of one of those shots that you pull off that stay with you for a long time.
  4. ok GP1 the tube in the longbow is an XD4 using the firefly IR
  5. Well thats your thoughts and if you dont agree then thats fine, but im not given to lieing! I stand by all that i've said.I could see it was a rabbit and the background was safe! If people aren't happy shooting at longer ranges when they can see clearly and safely then they dont have to!
  6. Well theres not a lot i can do to make you believe what i've said but its all true! Your more than welcome to come visit and take a look through the longbow,i've watched rabbits a few times past 400 yards. As for the N550,i couldn't believe it could see that far either, made me wonder why i had spent so much on the longbow!
  7. Hi steve,i used a .243 shooting 55 grain nosler home loads built by steve kershaw.
  8. Hi GP1.I seem to have caused a bit of a stir with my post! The range is correct. The rabbits were on a facing grass bank and i could see them moving about. My mate could see them with his N550,he even saw it flip over when it was hit. Not saying the longbow it the best NV out there but i could see the rabbit and that the background was safe.
  9. Know it sounds far fetched but there were three others who saw it all happen. It is a good NV scope but you need the right background at that range.I've struggled to see a fox at no more than a 100 yards in rough grass, stingers etc, just as you do with a lamp sometimes.
  10. Dont worry welshlamb, its just a case of a good shot making up for all those howlers we all have!
  11. Hi luckyshot. I was using a starlight longbow which has a mag range of 2.5-10. I use it on 10X most of the time, and yes a rabbit is a small target at 435 yards! Plus, you do need the gods on your side for a shot like that!
  12. Hello there drut. New to computers so still working out how to do things, ditto the forum. Have been shooting rifles of one sort or other from the age of seven or eight so have done a bit! (now an old ***!)
  13. Hi all,was out last night having a look through a new shooting mates N550 digi NV sight with doubler and using a quantum firefly IR. To say i was impressed would be an understatment! A great unit that, for NV,doesn't cost the earth! We then had alook through my NV at which point my new mate said he could see some rabbits at the far corner of the field.I took over the rifle and found the rabbits. We then put the lamp on the rabbits and i ranged them at 435 yads. I then dialed the drop into the scope. There didn't seem to be any wind as far as i could tell,so i put the cross hair on the rabbit (which covered it) and took the shot. Half a second later there was a telltale thwump! As you would expect,i was over the moon!
  14. Good going russ91! Me and my lamping mate are on 74 foxes so far this year which is a fair few more than this time last april and we had a great 2011! there just seems so many about. How often do you get each week on average?
  15. One vixen shot by a fast moving 55 grain nosler! Weather was threatening rain with a light wind. Night cut short by the disco playing up for the third time in a row! Some lucky foxes still walking because of it! TOTAL 196
