  1. It’s hard to describe how loud it is. The o/u with subs is quiet enough to hear pellet strike. It depends on your surroundings, open fields and shooting into the air is a lot quieter than around sheds etc. At a guess, 100 yards away in an open field, most non shooters would possibly hear something but not know what it was. I like the A tec as you don’t have a dedicated moderated gun. You only add the suppressor as and when needed. And the sight line is not affected and the balance isn’t bad compared to pumps with mods on. It’s definitely louder than my o/u though. Again, at say a 100 yards, people in houses with windows shut wouldn’t likely hear it, but if they where in gardens it would be noticeable but not annoying. Obviously, big difference with subs and sonic cartridges. it depends what you need. If you need a gun that no one will hear at all, you will struggle with any shotgun but the full modded o/u is probably near enough the best. If you just want to minimise noise pollution or complaints, the A tec may do the job. Another option is to get your existing o/u barrels sound moderated. That’s what I did, think it cost around £600. Might be an option instead of buying a different gun
  2. 4 today. 2 from permission on the feeder with air rifle and 2 trapped in garden 858
  3. I use one on a semi auto 12 bore beretta. Good bit of kit, deadens the sound a fair bit but nowhere near as quiet as my Beretta 20 bore o/u with modded barrels. It helps to cycle the action too if using subs.
  4. Another 3 from the same trap, in under an hour again. Ive recently moved and the garden backs onto a park. The squirrels are everywhere and have literally demolished the bins looking for food. Very few songbirds about so hopefully I can help them a bit. 845
  5. 141 since I last updated here. Including 5 trapped within less than an hour in the back garden today. In the same trap each time. 841
  6. I’ve often wondered that if there is an issue of racism within a police force in any country, are the officers racist before joining or does their experiences at work change their views on race and then they become racist?
  7. I’m glad you got it sorted. Its a concern if the police act on unsubstantiated information and use it to prejudice you regarding firearm licensing. It opens it up for anyone to make false accusations out of spite.
  8. Can I ask if you have proof of this and if so, where from? The reason I ask is because if this is true, which I personally doubt, that is more of a concern than any additional forms. And the reason is; that if it’s ‘tittle tattle’ and ‘rumour ‘ as you say, that implies it’s unsubstantiated, possibly made up and wouldn’t hold in a court of law or appeal. But anyone could make up bull about you, including the police, which would affect your suitability to hold a license and more importantly, be a stain against your character. So if the police use lies, slander or whatever to prejudice you without any form of proof, that is a big worry.
  9. Think it’s kind of selfish. You don’t want your bin to smell so you dump it in someone else’s bin? Then moan because they have the audacity to put up signs to deter that kind of action.
  10. I dropped a TV on my foot years ago. No shoes on. It was when TVs weighed a ton. It nipped a bit and I thought it had broken a few bones but x Ray came back fine and the doctor surprised me by saying the bones in your foot are some of the strongest ones.
  11. I think it was about 2004 they brought the act in? The problem is that’s it’s a mandatory 5 year jail time if caught in possession of one without a FAC for it. I had one too as did thousands of people. And out of the thousands, how many are aware of the change in law and risk prosecution when they find them in the loft and decide to have a shot in the back garden not realising they’re looking at a 5 year stretch. And this law is UK wide (not sure about Northern Ireland) and doesn’t just apply to Scotland and their airgun licensing laws. Spot on but unlike a SGC, you need ‘good reason’ to have an Air Weapon Certificate in Scotland. Obviously good reason includes target shooting but I don’t know if you would need to be in a club or if plinking in your garden would count as good reason, which I’m guessing most folk would use an air pistol for.
  12. Legal to own but only on a FAC and each one you own has to be registered and entered on your ticket. You cannot sell or give away them to anyone. If you no longer have a FAC and possess one, your options are mostly limited to handing in to the police for destruction or possibly sell abroad if it worth’s the hassle
  13. By the sounds of it, we don’t need GPs reports but some mandatory training 🤔😀
  14. If you personally have been fortunate enough not to see the doctor apart from routine stuff, he obviously can’t comment on any medical conditions that may impact on your suitability. That’s great and that’s another tick in the box. But the whole point of this (apart from covering backsides) is to limit the risk. So if you have a medical condition, the police will take this into consideration. This may or may not affect your application. And if you have no problems, that’s great. The only inconvenience is time and money. Which is up to you to decide whether or not it’s worthwhile to you
  15. No doctor can make that decision. That’s up to the police. The doctor can only pass on information or advise on certain conditions that may be incompatible with holding a license, such as mental illness. However, the whole idea of the medical assessment is to reduce the risk of someone doing harm to themselves or others. It will never do away with the risk, but is another step to reduce it. Which isn’t a bad thing for anyone, including certificate holders. What is unacceptable is the different fees charged and who should pay them. To me, that’s the only contentious issue.
  16. I’ve noticed the bracken here has gone black and wilting heavily. Believe it’s due to the surprising lack of rain we’ve had over the last 2 months
  17. A very good point I’ve shot branchers in the past. I’ve also shot young fox cubs and rabbits. I wouldn’t do it now but understand if folk need to do it for a reason. As long as that reason isn’t sport.
  18. Does anyone know when the legislation was introduced that created the ‘legal limit ‘ of 6ft ib for air pistols and 12 for air rifle?
  19. Is that normal seasonal flooding? As this prolonged good weather is unusual for up here, it happens occasionally but is unusual. Likely the good weather and clear skies is nothing to do with the lockdown and reduced emissions, just an interesting coincident
  20. That’s a suspected issue with cleaning up the environment by reducing fossil fuel use. Fossil fuels put particles in the atmosphere that collectively block a small percentage of UV light. Which means, if we try to save the environment by not using fossil fuels, the sky’s will be clearer, allowing more UV light and increasing temperatures anyway. I don’t know if this is all true as it’s beyond my pay scale but a lot of respected scientists agree with this. It was first noticed by scientists after 9/11 when flights in America were effectively grounded. There was a significant increase in temperature then
  21. Up here the weather has been fantastic since the lockdown. A lucky coincidence possibly but I wonder if there’s more to it. The sky has been very clear, especially at night with a great view of the stars. I’ve also never known the sea to be so clear and have such good visibility. There’s a supposed phenomenon called global dimming. Basically, particles from emissions of planes, cars etc are very fine but there’s usually a lot of them in the atmosphere, far more than the usual expected natural particles. Water molecules condense on these particles and eventually form rain drops. Now there’s little emissions, is it the case that the weather and visibility has improved because we’re not having the emissions and therefore the rain?
  22. Watched it a while back. Some aspects incredibly similar to what we are experiencing now. Actually wondered if the Government watched it and used it for official advice on how to handle the Coronavirus, like washing your hands for 20 seconds
  23. If you reside in Scotland you need an Air Weapon Certificate. This allows you to possess air weapons under the legal limit in Scotland. The air guns are not entered on your license. You are licensed, not the guns. The way it should be with all guns. If you are just a visitor to Scotland, you apply for a visitor permit. I’m not sure how long that lasts for. Regarding the firearms, I would recommend seeking advice from your licensing department and Police Scotland for a definite answer.
  24. I’m not for banning them as people have said, they’re not any more dangerous than any other rifle you can legally buy and use here. As long as they’re used safely and responsibly. However, I personally don’t want to be associated with them as a shooter. The one time I went to a club and folk where using ‘military style ‘ semi .22s, a few folk where dressed in camouflage trousers, camouflage jacket and black boots with trousers tucked into the boots. This was an indoor range in a urban area. They weren’t there to target shoot for the thrill of competing or shooting to the best of their ability, but because of the image. An image or perception that doesn’t show shooting in a good light.
