  1. Hi All, I have an opportunity for an experienced fox shooter to help out on our small wild bird shoot nr Ashington, West Sussex. Feb-July is obviously the most important time of year to be out and I would expect to shoot around 50 during this period. We’re located close to a prominent re-wilding project and so there’s no shortage of foxes to shoot. Obviously need insurance and Ideally will have thermal/nv set up too. I’m afraid we’re only looking for someone with past experience and they must be able to come regularly during the spring. Hopefully it will be a great opportunity for the right person to enjoy their sport and provide a great conservation benefit at the same time. Thanks for reading and if you think you can help please get in touch! Thanks, Archie
  2. Hi Lloyd, As said previously if planting it’s preferable to use native species, do our bit for the other wildlife on the shoot! Holly is great but very slow growing, dogwood, hawthorn and dog rose are also good game shrubs too. If planting new cover isn’t possible then maybe some thinning is required. Most woodland sites will have dogwood, bramble, hawthorn etc coming through when you let the light in. I believe that photo is a sedge grass (maybe common sedge), pendulous sedge is quite common especially if you’re on damp ground. I believe you can buy plugs of them online (they’re common in gardens) and plant out, but mindful to clear a bit of an area around so it doesn’t get smothered young! Good Luck!
  3. Hi All Looking for around 100/150 pheasant poults in the Sussex area. Preferably would be 8-10 weeks or older. any help much appreciated Archie
  4. I am about to have my interview soon also 14 was there anything else that i should be aware of before going ahead? thanks
  5. She's not sitting on them yet there's six so far. The reason I was thinking of doing it was we have ducks try to nest before but with no success( on the pond next door) we think this is because of a heron. So I thought they would be safer if I reared them. I've got a ,stable to put them in if they hatch where they will be safe from fox and so on. Anyone know any more about that disease though that doesn't sound very good.
  6. Hi guys, We have just Dug a pond in the summer and there are ducks nesting there at the moment. We were thinking of taking the eggs and putting them under a broody hen. Two questions though, has anyone had any success doing it? And will the ducks lay more eggs and nest again so if all went well we would have two broods. Thanks
  7. I will if possible. That's why I want to do the course because I'm keen to learn but the basc pre-dsc1 course like dsc1 has an age limit of 18. So I'm just going to have to keep looking. .223 who did you do your courses with am I right that its only basc and bds who do them?
  8. Thanks guys. Does the dsc cover ballistics and what would happen to a bullet if it missed your fox and hit a rock or something would this bullet have the power to carry on for a long way or is it not a problem? This is the problem and I'm wondering if the course would inform me. Thanks
  9. that was the plan but according to the law I don't think I would be able to use it unless it was on my cert at that was what I thought. I would love to gain some experience but the law is very restricting so I think if possible I will do a dsc1 this summer but I still don't know if I would be allowed. And the reason for the rifle is we are overrun with foxes and we are trying to get a small rough shoot going.
  10. Thanks Kent Just looked at the law on the basc website and they said I would be able to shoot alone once I had an fac is this correct I just thought it was too good to be true
  11. Hi guys I'm sure this has come up before but I can't find it. I'm looking to get into fox shooting and deer stalking but I'm finding it quite hard as I'm only 13 (14 in may). I've shot foxes with my dads .22 but not with much success. I'm gonna apply for an fac on my birthday so hopefully should get one by the summer. I was then going to do a dsc1 with basc but I think there might be an age limit. Does anyone know? Secondly, my dad doesn't have a deer legal rifle ( to use on the dsc1) and I'm not sure on the law about borrowing one. One final question on the law on the basc website it says I may be given a rifle( when I have my fac) does this mean leant for the duration of the outing or given to keep and have on my fac? Thanks guys
