  1. Happy days lads keep the reports coming in, whos shot what and where.. even on a bum day, still worth hearing about ... we all have em.. I say this because we were all geared up me and stu w... and nothing came, went back PM and started knockin them over..
  2. Is everyone as happy as me...the harvest is under way , the first pigeons are in the bag, you can see the rabbits... poults will be along soon... This is England Oh and the the Olympics have started this week I think..
  3. Flat and fast, yes.... fantastically so... maybe ?, a rifle is either on zero or it isnt, the .17 HMR is known to to be flat and on zero out to 150m or so after that it is the skill, judgement of conditions, holdover and application of the marksmanship principles that will determin if the shot is to be sucessful or not. I am quite happy taking a bead on a rabbit over 200m, best shot so far is at 238m, clean shoulder shot, im fortunate that my ground allows this kind of shot, conditions play a large part and to some degree I now think that my Weihrauch hw60j and the Busnell Elite 6500 on top also allows me to consider the longer shot, as does the many rounds fired at paper targets practicing these type of shots. Some might say why bother just get closer, the round is very capable so why not match its capability with youre own marksmanship when the shot presents itself. The .17hmr round is potent for its size and a head or neck/shoulder shot will ensure that you have a decent result for the pot. As for charlie, a short range opertunistic shot may result in a kill, Heard more often than not that a second and third shot have to be taken to do the job, but if you are seriously looking at reducing the fox population on a permission then an alternative calibre would be needed.
  4. 32 gr 5s hit em hard and as you become more confident and proficient you will take pigeon at longer ranges... you can start with 7s and 6s but a good steady average load would be a 5, there isnt that many less lead pellets to make that much difference, but with 32gm a 5 shot you get in my opinion less pigeons clipped and more in the bag.... Clear pigeon 32gm 5s The Colonel
  5. Buy the best you can afford....
  6. Gentlemen, (and any Birds if you are not watchin Corry) I am of the opinion that as a Nation we will see more armed officers on the streets day to day,for a specific purpose, the olympics will demonstrate this, we will see the deployment of Anti Aircraft, Javalin Missile units, SAS, SBS, Royal Marines Commandos PLUS THOSE WE CANNOT SEE.. gradually as life continues this show of force, weapons and general SOP will creep in,more and more, it will become accepted that most... Not all will carry firarms... the threat is not going to diminish.. the threat will become more sophisticated, devious and will resort to the most underhand tactics that are imaginable...( this doesnt even touch firearms crime in the uk) No one saw(civilian) the the Twin Towers and the bombings of the London Underground comming, fire arms would not of stopped it but when you are fighting it, be it in in England or Afgahnistan you need to be armed and ready to carry out that detail. Now it has been said that no one joins up or signs on the line to kill people...True.. unavoidable... however.. some individuals ( thankfully) take the responsibility on behalf of a nation as police officers and military personnel to carry arms and discharge them under orders to achieve what is deemed to be right and honest, those men should not be questioned in their duty, they fight for us and for their brothers, they enter into conflict to carry out their mission and to make sure they all come home. Our Police Officers, Military personell, Fire men, Nurses , Ambulance men . Paramedics all work to look after us day to day , I include them because when the **** hits the fan they are generally in the firing line... which one of us wouldnt want a nurse or a fireman in the dark of the London Underground tending to our Burns or saying Im going to get you out of here...US forensic teams carry Guns, the way our emergency teams get treated, bricked , kit stolen, drugs stolen,... and the question was to arm or not to arm...
  7. Oh by the way what a crackin bit of kit.... In fairness for the money there are several mods they could do to refine the overall package and make it fully worth the asking price, its good but the VFM isnt there IMO...
  8. Any advice welcome, where do you get the smaller lithium ion power cells? How long do they last?, how much are they? Anybody experienced problems with these units?,Glare etc.. what is the realistic effective kill range (.17HMR). Best Regards The Colonel
  9. I have recently bought a HW60j .17 HMR. The process I went through to arrive at the Weirauch as the weapon of choice was long winded affair, comparing, trying out etc.. as they all basically achieve the same results in the field, accurate kills. Now where it changed was in the finish, the action and positive bolt throw, the trigger (two stage), over all look. The HW60j had a definite edge, so you blow the budget and get something that looks the dogs danglies, gives you the confidence to shoot at quarry beyond 150m... result!! scrape the dosh together, they are good.
  10. Heres a couple of pics Bicykillgaz
  11. A knife is only as good as its edge, A good knife is a sharp one... 120 quid blunt knife ... rubbish
  12. If Ive had some stubborn residue in the barrels I have used the green Kitchen scourer (scotch brite) as a patch on a jag, plenty of youngs 303, a vigorous clean usually does the trick, if in any doubt a run down to your local gun smith will put your mind at rest and he will be able to advise you what the problem is. Rust leading to pitting may be a problem.
