  7. Well me and my mate decided (against my better judgment) to venture out Saturday as it was the last opportunity we both had to shoot until Christmas We decided to make an early start to try and beat the heavy rain we had forecasted so we where on the ground by 8 to find a few small groups of ferals and woodys dotted around the field, we decided on a place to set up (mainly to keep the rain of rather than bird location) Within 5 mins we had a group of 20 ferals come in and we both missed with both barrels, well that's how it was gona be for the rest of the day I thought to myself. The ferals kept coming slow and steady throughout the day presenting some lovely shots, normally ferals are abit suicidal and tend to fly at you until you hit them but the very strong wind we had made the day that bit more challenging. We shot steady through until 12 when we and and the birds where finaly beaten by the rain. We packed up and decided to have a quick walk around to see if we could flush a few pheasants and ended the day with a brace... Awsome day had by the both of us, the final tally was 51 ferals, 3 woodys, 1 crow, 2 pheasant and 2 very wet guns
  8. Great read....nice to know you pro's have difficulties pulling the birds in to sometimes
  9. Been there, done that....it always happens to either me or my mate on the day to....you get worked up coz they're shooting better which inevitably makes you worse and then beggins a viceous circle....just think like everyone else has said your there having a giggle( even if its at your expence this time) but next time it could quite easily be your friends turn
  10. Well what a day! I haven't been able to get on the pigeons for ages due to other less important issues (such as getting married). Iv been watching a few maize feilds that where cut last Monday and was able to get on it yesterday for a few hours....I took a friend with me and got to the fields by half 11 (after paying are respects to the fallen) there was a flock of around 100 birds on there so decided to watch for half hour to get a better idea, after deciding where to go we both set up at opposite ends of the ground in perfect postions....within 30 seconds of stepping into my hide I had my first shot on a ferral and they just kept coming, I have never seen anything like it! As I dropped one, two or three where dropping in else where with no regard to the noise....if i hadn't for so excited and could shoot straight i could have easily had 40 odd in the first 20 mins but as it was I couldn't My friend wasn't getting much action in his spot so told him to join me, so we spent the next few hours popping away it wasn't as action packed as the first half hour but I was in no way complaining as it is the best few hours/days shooting I have ever had! We where packed up by 4 wiv 3 collars, 4 blackies,23 ferrals and 42 woodies The most i have ever shot in such a short time!! Am working back by the fields today and there are more birds on it then there where yesterday....I can't shoot it again though for another 2 weeks, just hope they hold on it that long!
  11. Sounds all good to me, I'm also in the same position mate been looking and asking for years....I'm not quite there yet but may have had my first breakthrough this weekend just gone....here's hoping! Well done mate
  12. Nice bag....as long as the birds are there I'd be there! Well done mate
  13. Phoned the farmer on the Wednesday and he said I could shoot the Saturday over a cut field of rape...picked up my mate and turned up nice and early to make the most of our first outing over stubble in 5 years...watched the field for an hour and set up by 8 in a perfect little spot...the birds where about but nothing seemed interested so moved a few things about by 9 we had had one shot to no success then all of a sudden half hour later it started going our way and had 10 down in as many minutes, a few shots later and we where stopped in our tracks as a shogun came tearing across the field....guns down we went to see what the problem was and was confronted by a very angry game keeper asking us who had given us permission! It turns out the farmer hadn't informed him and he had arranged for him and a few guns to shoot the field Sunday, after a sincere apology we swapped numbers and where also invited to shoot with them the following day. So Sunday morning all the guns meet at 10 and we are introduced to every one there where 5 of us in total and we where placed under a oak tree on an adjacent cut field of rape...where set up by 11 and within 2 minutes had downed my 1st followed by my mate a few mins later...by 2.30 we had 39 birds layed out in front of us then my friend had to go taking his car bat for the magnet with him...once the magnet had stopped the birds didn't seem as committed...by the end of the day at half 6 I had a total of 52, I drove round to meet the other guns which had all shoot very well and we ended with a total bag of 250!.... I swapped a few numbers and by the sounds of it I will be able to shoot with them again and also learnt a few new tricks from all the guns as they have a lot more experience than myself, all in all an awsome weekend had a very big thanks to all
