  1. I've got some in 6.5 that I have not had a chance to load yet due to lockdown A mate down South has been using the H&N plated bullets for a while, in .30-cal and other sizes. He really rates them, esp. for subsonic projects or shorter distance (200m or so) range work Makes for much cheaper shooting than traditional FMJ or more expensive jacketed bullets. As to leading, or preventing it - as there is no exposed lead on the exterior, then there is no lead that is in contact with the bore Lots of load data for them online and at the H&N site Also a lot of discussion about them on YouTube and other sites Once I've used up my stock of the H&N I will be casting my own 6.5, then powder coating them. Ditto for all my military bolt action calibers: for example, I was shooting a .303 yesterday which used a Lee lead bullet & 4.7 grains of shotgun powder. At 100m it was very accurate and almost zero recoil, though the rearsight had to be kranked up a good few clicks to allow for the different (slower) bullet trajectory
  2. I was looking at my FAC & noticed that I only have 12-bore slug listed...! Previous FAC also allowed 20-bore and 10-bore slug. Sent them an e-mail, will be chasing it up when I am next on the phone with them. Again, could have lead to an interesting scenario, not of MY doing
  3. Could be tempted to sell mine I suppose... Where are you based?
  4. Will check my box of 357 to see if I already have some to one side....
  5. If you don't find anything get back to me Happy to make one for him....I used to supply Purdeys and Holland & Holland with cartridge belts, among other kit. Would need his waist size, etc.
  6. Will my experience of an unproofed gun going into an RFD was that they handed it to the police for destruction. I'd taken it to them ONLY to be mailed to the Proof House! Best gunsmith I know for shotguns is in Jedburgh. Coach House Gunroom or some such trading name. He used to be my FEO at one point, and back in happier times built custom race guns....(very high spec. competition pistols)
  7. Nice I was trained on these at the factory - made a few as part of my skill-set acquisition as at the time it looked like I was off to parts Oceania and was to be the "local" fixer upper for Daystate kit in that part of the globe Pity in some ways that the plans were dropped
  8. As a dachshund owner I feel that the use of a photo of two dachshunds has hurt my feelings! Can I form a new focus group for this? Where do I apply for funding? Will there be a way to also apply this new Ruling to potential trading partners i.e., areas of the world that feel it's still ok to skin cats and dogs alive before cooking & eating them, etc??
  9. Still after a Beeman marked C1 barrel Looking for a lot of the other parts above too, very keen to find one of the small rubber SS1 "short scopes" to fit this carbine
  10. The book on holsters by Al Stohlman is a good read/reference. There are some good holster patterns you can buy as a pack too - I have the Western belts patterns pack from the same guy. Usually sold in the two catalogs below If you haven't already, check out the Weaver Leather and Pearce Tandy catalogs. Great selection of tools and hides, etc There are some good reference books on really classic holsters, the one I used to use a lot was Packing Iron. Real inspirational stuff in there...though my taste in gun leather runs cold with the 1920's/30's Hollywood rigs - much prefer the real deal rigs and accessories that would stand up to actual usage...
  11. One of my mates did similar Swapped his 357 with someone who was giving him their 357 The FAC variation was worded in such a way that he could retain possession of his 357 until he'd entered it on the other chaps FAC, and vice versa Made things a lot easier...
  12. Just had a look. Worldwide set-up I saw similar safes when I was working for a while in a shop in NZ They were all "Made in China" My preference is the UK made Brattonsound make - they've got a few safes of a similar size and I'd trust their build spec. more than the foreign brand. Hope you find something that does the job either way Nearest shop to you in Bangor on the High Street may be worth a phone call?
  13. Well - the breaking news on the BEEB is that it looks like Wee Nippy's Marxist rabble is to lose their majority in Holyrood..! Maybe now they will crawl back under the nearest rock and go away for good - a long overdue state of affairs. Glad I could vote in the Independence referendum back when it was held - and it did not take Wee Nippy's lot long to reverse their sound-bites of the losing night, that this was a once in a generation vote; maybe 48 hours or so later they were banging on about a 2nd Referendum "fae thae peeple..." I've too many mates from my long years in Scotland to want them stuck in an SNP run state, with rocketing inflation rates that would make a south American banana republic look like a safe investment. Salmond & Sturgeon are cut from the same **** smelling cloth & I'd trust them as far as they trust each other! IF Scotland did become Independent it would be a complete disaster, even IF they got automatic EU membership...which is almost a guaranteed "no hopes, ever" A hard border with England would be a necessity - and would kill off a lot of trade with their nearest neighbour. I'm predicting some Monopoly money style currency tied to the market price of shortbread & Harris tweed, backed up by the revenue tied up in Salmonds wine cellar. Wonder what spin Nippy puts on this new change to her attempted power grab? Glad we'll not be seeing her face on some new Scottish bank notes; but I'd pay good money to see it on a special edition of triple ply Andrex... How are you keeping? Well I hope..! Will drop you a PM sometime to swap tales of woe...!
  14. Aye - an FAC does exactly the same job as a SGC for the purpose of S.2 carts as long as you have shotguns on the FAC... A few shops local to me even have printed out notices to this effect at the tills - "Shotgun ammo will ONLY be sold on production of a valid SGC or FAC" They'd HAVE to make sure any FAC shotgun slug purchase was also listed as valid in the ammo table - as I had my S.1 shotguns for over a decade before venturing into slug shooting - and I don't own S.1 shotguns in 10-bore or 20-bore but DO have slug on my FAC for them; which may confuse your local RFDs...
  15. You do NOT need to show a SGC to buy regular shotgun cartridges, so absolutely no need at all to also have a SGC..! An FAC is also valid when shotguns are listed as possessed on it. I had shotguns on my FAC for well over a decade & had zero issues buying regular shotgun ammo using my FAC, and I cannot recall ever being questioned on why I was not showing a SGC to buy S2 cartridges. The legal document to possess standard S2 shotgun ammo, is of course - no legal document required = the issue is showing legal ownership of a shotgun at time of purchase, so an FAC or SGC do an equal job when you have said guns listed on your FAC CLAYS SHOOTING CONDITION There was a legal ruling made some years ago now, that ALL S.1 shotguns could be so conditioned to allow use for clay shooting, and this condition should be added as a default. Not all Firearms Depts are aware of this or bother complying with the law/rulings, so it may be best to point out that you require this condition on your FAC
  16. Will have a look. Thanks! EDIT: Looks like they are giving it the hard sell & all the sales patter to shift it...!
  17. I'd not say Scotland has any exclusivity on that type of government - and as someone who entered the sport in the late 70's before getting a first FAC in 1982 or so, I've been fortunate enough to experience first hand the nature of such government directives, deeming inanimate objects as worthy of outright bans due to media opinion being steered to match in with existing back-burner projects (i.e. 1973 Green Paper) One of the sad issues with UK shooting today is lack of better education of the shooter themselves, as to what their rights ARE - as used to be commonly the case with the Guns Review editorials, etc. from the late Colin Greenwood. Aside from this - it's also apparent on this thread (& the PW Forum in general at times) that a few folk ARE purely reactive: a bad picture of a horrible horrible gun "think of the children" when it's been pointed out in this thread that the main photo used HAS been cropped, and the image is of an older ex-SAS veteran using what is more than likely a fully functioning AK which would fall under Section 5 rules here if in public hands. Maybe in this case, the show organisers thought that the show's attendees may, strangely to some on here, want to meet such a man in person, given the general attraction to that regiments history and the veterans from it? (as can be seen from several TV shows, movies, books, etc, etc.)
  18. So, some of that dross was NOT 100% guesswork?? I can easily counter the BS re: "laws are generally changed by public opinion influencing politicians who in turn change policy or law... " - to pick just one The Scottish AirWEAPONS Certificate was 100% driven by SNP policy and party interests - in the form of one or two acerbic individuals. A public consultation prior to the new law coming onto the statute books was overwhelmingly against any further airgun controls in Scotland... So, which "public opinion" influenced the politicians here?
  19. In al your decades of shooting, I take it you have never done any form of classic target shooting, using military rifles? For YOUR education into this "form of shooting" - military rifles normally have the sights regulated to be correct for "x" distance with the bayonet fitted Quite a lot of classic UK comps. run by the HBSA, LERA, etc. do have specific competition categories for various patterns or military rifle, of assorted vintage, which require the issued bayonet to be fitted during the course of fire!! More than happy to defer to your broader knowledge and experience though if you have information to the contrary?
  20. May pay to check the tube with digital callipers - only seen S&B scopes with the European diameters, the default used to be 26mm It always meant you had to source a set of 26mm rings - still got a few floating about for just that purpose - would hate to see someone try to cram this into a 25.4mm ring set
  21. My lass gives my action a good rub down with wax and Vim....she keeps away from my guns though 😁
  22. ?? AFAIK the chap who had the UK franchise for Midway dropped this when the BrownellsUK franchise became available....not really a take-over!
  23. Nice... I've got a lot of old Eley & Nobel related leaflets, part packs of wads, shot cards, tins of discontinued shotgun primers, etc. Still use the Nobel powders when I can find them. Made up some 8mm Mauser ammo during lockdown with Nobel Rifle 1. Also grew up as a new pistol club shooter on the 38 Special reloads full of Shotgun 80. Good stuff...if a little smokey
