  1. hello hedd, i think the not resting on hard surfaces is to do with the recoil you get from a springer as oposed to a pcp, which causes the gun to jump. you can buy various resting bags etc but i would imagine you could make your own. if you have to rest on posts etc, just rest your hand on the post and then the rifle fore end on your hand. i think a lot of it is what works for you. nice rifle btw the tx200. :)

  2. I agree, they do seem more screwed on in comparison to crows. You can hear the bloody things but never seem to come into range.

too right. i suppose stepped up crow tactics are the only way with an air rifle and plently of patience. certainly gonne be a challenge for ya mate.

  3. For about 25 years back in my game keeping days. Turned out too be a nice little success.

Well and truly rusty though with some embarrassing misses.

How I could miss a bird sat on the floor at 25 yards I do not know. I will put it down too the hushpower barrel from I read you need too aim high :)

  4. I have the exact same as you mate choc lab he would not retrieve unless dead. Then one day the runner was that close I could encourage him and gave him such a fuss he has never looked back I think it was just the confedence he needed.

thanks for your reply mate. gives me a bit of hope. think your right about the confidence thing. i am sure he feels that he will be in the wrong if he picks it up alive, even though he has never been told off for anything like this. he also has never retrieved anything that could bite him. its a srange one. glad to hear yours is sorted. hopefully we wil get there 1 day. :)

  5. ok, look at it this way. What if you took a long shot at a deer, wounded it and it ran off. Well, its only a deer. (an agricultural pest as well) would you still be happy to make such comments? personaly, thats too long a shot to take with an air rifle, and trust me, i know how to shoot.

would ,nt take that sort of shot at at a deer as metioned inn an earlier post. an air rifle and woodpigeon sin't the same ball park as deer and suitable rifle ask anyone. as i said not trying to cause arguments to praising the lad for his air rifle efforts. ps no doubt you know how to shoot!ask the farmers there opion after all its them who provide most of us with our sport anyway!

  6. if it dies an hour later, so be it, its still dead, the same can easily happen with a shotgun, and iv shot many a pigeon at that sort of range before and folded them up in the air, think of that what you will.

my point exactly! so has george didweed or any body else :

  7. no worry's fella im glad you enjoyed your self and learnt a bit as well now get your FAC sorted with cops let us no how you get on and when your ticket lands

well done swiss, for all the people who frown upon us and our sport. you are passing on your trade, and in a sfe and respectable manor, from our very own east yorkshire, respect pal.

  8. well done lads, pest control at its best and probablly where its needed most. should try to give up the fags though, been stopped two months and feel better for it. foxes don't smell u either, although they didn't smell you this time obviously.

    well done aga man.

  9. finally someone with some sense, the farmer gives us permission to clear up the pigeons. if you turn around and say i didn't shoot cos i didn,t think i could kill it the farmer will quickly realise he/she needs someone else to protect there crops [our food[]. for the lad who shot the long range pigeon. well done i suggest his fieldcraft and airgun experience are top notch simply because its all hes got. ie no fac with rimfire etc. not trying to cause arguments but i work for farmers and in the past have worked first hand with farmers and understand the damage such pests can cause. i have shot with pcp only for long time and respect their accuracy.

  10. Just make sure you kill what you shoot. If it aint a runner no problem. But realistically if you can persuade him to pick up a live bird and praise him well he should pick them to please you but might start bringing you the chickens after.

lol cheers for the reply mate/ try to kill everthing but kiil a lot in a year so bound to get the odd runner , hence the dog!, seriously though this problem has been with us some time. tried all i can think of. hoping some one on here has come accross the problem. thanks anyway. aga man

  11. hello chaps, hoping you can help. i have a chocolate lab dog 5 years old this october. i have gundog trained him since 18 months as advised. i am a amateur dog trainer not a proffesional. any way i am happy with the dog i use him for rough shooting, occasional duck shooting with water work and mostly pigeon decoying from the hide. he works to the whistle and is generally good. two years ago we bought some chickens. the dog quickly became used to the chickens and is steady around them, however, when he is sent for a retrieve on wounded game or pigeons ie runner birds he finds the birds but will no longer pick them up. i am sure it is related to the chicken situation. he used to pick runner birds. also worth mentioning he lives in the house with two young children and is generally a family pet aswell as a gundog. any help or tips greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance aga man.

  12. drove past a recentlly drilled feild today and saw s##t loads of pigeons feeding, stopped to see what they were eating, not sure what it was, i would say it looked like a tiny dence dark green leek about an inch thick, any ideas? All i know the pigeons were loving it as i walked onto the feild they lifted a dropped back in 20 yards away, birds comin and goin every where, it was 6pm aswell,

probably beans mate, possibly peas but i rekon beans {pigeon caviar} :good:
