  1. Bloodyell that is cheap if I didn't have one I would buy it, fantastic guns
  2. Tony at Happy Valley gun club Grazely should be able help
  3. Cockers have character, well that's a nice way to describe them
  4. My dog is fed raw and 10% of her diet is bones, she has fresh pork rib, lamb rib, and beef rib bones, whole rabbit and chicken , I never feed weight bearing bones from large mammal's these can cause broken teeth.
  5. It comes with experience providing you do a fair amount pigeon shooting, when I used to shoot a lot of pigeons my dogs learnt only to pick up live birds or warm birds, not something I really taught other than directing them to the bird I wanted collected, by the time the dogs had had a couple of seasons they just knew what to pick up no direction needed.
  6. I don't think they are aware they are even doing this so slaps on the nose will probably not work , agree with the others to much to soon especially the hide work, I did the same with a cocker many years ago, never cured and used to drive me mad pigeon and duck shooting. Walked up shooting or beating he was not to bad and I could live with it
  7. You have an active pup that is bored, As OP said mental stimulation is the best thing in this situation.
  8. Hi, Don't take the ball anymore for a while, only reintroduce when he is happy picking up the other objects
  9. Most Choc labs could do with a bit of springer in them, only joking
  10. Get your springer and tell your GF its a Brittany spaniel
  11. Me and the missus went to a school open night when my youngest was 6 and his teacher showed us a picture he had drawn it was in the what did you do at the weekend theme I nearly died there was 2 stick figures one with what looked like a gun ( ME) and hundreds of dead birds everywhere with red crayon blood everywhere it looked like the battle of the Somme.
  12. A year old and 3 pups you must be mad , best of luck hope all goes to plan, at least you will not be bored
  13. Sorry to hear this hopefully its a one off event
  14. I cant remember ever giving my dogs a bath and they have all been house dogs, if still muddy when we get home they get a hose down and during the winter its a watering can with warm water. My house probably smells of dogs but after 40 years we don't notice it
  15. Well I am shocked I never knew that dogs could not scent dummies and game in long grass/ cover and crops as all of mine have been doing this for 40 years, its how I teach them to use there noses when they are pups.
  16. Be very careful, the ribs if a double will be soldered and come apart at quiet a low temperature
  17. Just thinking about poor Woody's ears in a few weeks time with that bundle swinging on them They may be not what you intended but they are a gorgeous healthy looking bunch of pups
  18. Love the pic with the 2 pups on the springer, is he thinking "Christ what have I done " I think most folks would think they are labs looking at the pics of the pups.
  19. Does the dog whine when training with just the owner ? if no simple solution. If the dog always whines then chances are it will always do it, I am not confident that they even know they are doing it, I have not known of anyone actually stopping this behaviour completely, yes you can mask it with chews or some other way but eventually they start to whine when being kept still or sitting. I had a cocker who would bloddy chat to me all day when sitting in a hide unless he was collecting birds and you could not use him for picking up as you would not want to infect the other dogs, but on our small rough shoot where he was on the go all day you never heard him. He was a cracking little dog steady as a rock with a good nose so I just lived with it and kept him away from the posh shoots.
  20. Oh so true, you just have to love em to live with one Should have added cracking pup, but I am biased lol
  21. I would say around 6 months but it really does depend on the dog, I had a cocker who was as good as most 12 month old dogs at 6 months but my current cocker was not ready to even start serious training until she was 9 months the most immature pup I have ever had.
  22. Used to have bad brown patches but the have started to disappear, thinking about it I have been giving the pup a couple of tins of sardines in tomato sauce every week for the last 3 months.
