Are you being serious? If so - that's completely without merit. If not, I apologise in advance for not picking up on your sarcasm. I for one would be interested. I recommend you do a little more research into the disciplines that might interest you, get involved in your local club - or the nearest that offers what you're looking for, and then apply for coterminous shotgun and firearms certificates. I hope you enjoy your shooting.

If you're after advice from people who actively compete in Practical Shotgun your best bet would be to join the four4islands forum ( http://four4islands.org/forum/ ) and the Practical Shotgun UK ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/1542732236015239/?ref=bookmarks ) Facebook group, and ask some questions regarding kit. Perhaps run a search first - you won't be the first person ever who's new to the discipline!

Different strokes for different folks guys. A set-up such as this could easily have (some) utility in the various target shotgun competitions run by the N.R.A.

According to the information above you've done absolutely nothing wrong. I'm certain that the security services are looking at this from the perspective of the threat from a "lone wolf"/"active shooter" and want to cross you off their list. Frustrating, and an invasion of your privacy - but a symptom of the times I'm afraid. My advice would be to meet with them (wherever you wish) and clear things up. P.S. I doubt that the U.K.P.S.A. would look kindly on the set-up you've purchased - regardless of its potential utility. They've published guidelines in the past regarding the use of chest rigs and the like. I'm not sure what the N.R.A.s take would be. It'd certainly not be the best choice for competition if you're planning to be quick with your reloads.

The proposals would effectively ban many .22LR firearms here in the UK. Not to mention the potential knock-on effects for disciplines such as Civilian Service Rifle. Don't for one moment think that the EC's goal is to actually protect the citizenry of Europe. They have an anti-gun agenda that will only stop when our sport is legislated out of existence as a whole. We're all in the same boat here.

The European Commission's back at it again with a typically egregious diktat relating to the ownership of semi-automatic firearms and their ancillaries. They've just released this statement (available here in full https://www.parlament.gv.at/PAKT/EU/XXV/EU/12/28/EU_122858/imfname_10671764.pdf): "Following two trilogue meetings, the co-legislators were still unable to agree on the revision of the Firearms Directive. These negotiations must be unblocked to take military grade assault weapons off the streets including those converted to semi-automatic use. The Commission’s position is clear that semi-automatic assault weapons derived from the “AK 47 Kalashnikov family” and the “AR 15 family” should be banned for civilian use given that they were designed for military use. Magazine sizes for short and long firearms should be limited to 10 rounds and should be subject to authorization and stringent checks and any derogation should be strictly limited and tightly controlled. EU citizens expect swift progress in this area to ensure their protection, so we must reach agreement before the end of 2016 on this key piece of legislation." Nobody's saying that the system as written is a good idea. It is however a condition of your certification. Break it, and you do run the (remote) risk of having your ticket revoked.

One possible way to put the buyer's mind at ease would be for the seller, when contacting their RFD to arrange the transfer, to also agree that the buyer will post the RFD their certificate. That way, the seller can fill it out in the presence of the RFD, and include it with the firearm when it's forwarded on. The seller doesn't need to worry about posting their certificate to someone "on the the internet", and other than the faff of the buyer having to post their certificate in the first place, all's well.

Unfortunately not Simon. The EC released a revised version of their proposals on April 1st (hilarious), which completely disregarded Ford's report and codified the type of semi-automatic firearms which they would like to ban. They ditched the "resembles firearms with automatic mechanisms" specification and have re-written the text to effectively include any semi-automatic with a detachable magazine. There's more to their proposal than just that - but it's the salient point. The LIBE committee (ironically concerned with civil liberties) has also issued its own report which calls for even further restrictions - which go above and beyond those from the EC bureaucrats. There's more shooters can do to oppose these proposals. I'd recommend forum members keep pressure on their MEPs by writing to them as and when developments occur - such as in this instance. We're not shooting the messenger dob - we're simply asserting that what you originally said: "My mate has been told that he has to hand his 10 shot semi auto .22 in as the law has changed", was not true - which it isn't. Either your mate is providing you with misinformation, or your mate's FEO is providing it to him. There is no law, diktat or proviso in the UK, either current or pending, which would necessitate the general surrender of certain semi-automatic firearms to the police. If Sussex are trying to impose such restrictions (which I seriously doubt), then they would be brought to book very swiftly indeed.

I have spoken to a couple of mates , some of them are rifle nuts and they too have heard this ,it's not happening imminently but it is going to happen ,apperantly it may take a year or more but semi automatic weapons are going to be banned but only if they are over a certain shot capacity so watch this space. This is nonsense. The only relevant thing that's in the political pipeline either domestically or within the EU are the EC proposed amendments to Council Directive 91/477/EEC on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons. This would potentially affect semi-automatic firearms with certain features, but is currently in the process of revision and has not yet come to a vote. I suggest you read up on the proposals and spend your time lobbying your MEPs rather than posting your mates' hearsay on PW.

I couldn't agree more. There's no basis to his statement that: "By fitting the telescopic stock to the 7+1 version, you would convert the shotgun into a Section 5 prohibited firearm." The law as written states: "(8) For the purposes of subsection (1)(aba) and (ac) above, any detachable, folding, retractable or other movable butt-stock shall be disregarded in measuring the length of any firearm." The ability of a stock to collapse is only relevant in this instance if, once removed leaving only the buffer tube, it brings the overall length of a pump action or semi-auto shotgun to less than 40". There is no legislation banning the attachment of adjustable stocks to shotguns as long as any OAL specification is met.

The onus is on the individual to ensure they conform with the 40" OAL specification in place. The stocks themselves are not illegal - or indeed, controlled in any way.
