  1. its more to do with cost per acre than per day, these can cover 100 ac a day so the cost is spread out . but you need several hundred acres to justify buying one . don't know how old this one is but could easily be 50-70k . I hate to think how much a new one would be
  2. could you take inspiration from the biltong thread , combine an ebay special solar panel (the sort for charging caravan batteries) and a couple of small fan units and you could then have 'assisted ventilation'
  3. the binding agent in cattle mineral / molasses blocks is builders lime a few farmers make their own mineral buckets so the theory of using cement is plausible
  4. would cider work, thinking of the fruity element to go with the pigeon >?
  5. eat one first infront of them, knowing what they are like you can pretend how nice they are then watch their face as it draws their mouth out !!!!
  6. we have done something similar with mustard where the drift from desiccating the OSR wiped out a patch of cover
  7. heading up on sunday yes it is not cheap, however compare it to the Grand Prix - well over £150 a ticket for a day (some may say less others more entertainment) - that's why we are individuals we will be taking camping stove frying pan & bacon etc for breakfast when we get there and im happy to carry a rucksack of sandwiches and picnic stuff to avoid the catering outlets. there are ways in which to save a £ here and there and not feel totally ripped off.
  8. Emptied the remains of the blackberry & honey whisky over the weekend, I used the remaining blackberry mush in an apple crumble despite being lots of pips this was fantastic , roll on autumn for blackberries in whisky
  9. a combination of live catch traps, air rifle , .410 and ferrets would make a hole in them
  10. there are plenty of chemicals to control weeds in brassicas as the are used in oil seed rape, because of eu licencing and pesticide regulations the cost of a spray for a minoriry crop will be higher than a spray for a large scale one Kerb wold take the grass out but im not sure a) if you can use it on kale or B what time of year it is approved for .

    Hogweed

Parsnip leaves have exactly the same effect, cause sensitisation to uv light and can cause some bad burns, so it is not unique to hog weed
  12. hugh fudgeingly-whitingstal whatshisname did a show on having a pig killed on his farm local slaughterman came, shot it . they then bled, gutted and scraped the pig. have seen a old sow have to be shot on farm. it was Gloucester old spot and the scull was so thick and overgrown it took some killing. a bacon pig will be easier if you use 12b wrap the barrels in cling film - saves a lot of cleaning have you got block and tackle to hoist it up ?
  13. do you have a holding number and pig herd number & ear tags etc? i.e are they legal - if so abbatoir job if not , find some one who has done it before to give you a hanbd in exchange for sausages
