To me the Swanni Rangers are a little tea bag in construction so if you are wearing them as an outer layer is going to let the wind in. The Bison are a much tighter knit which are better at keeping the elements out, though with any wool 'shirt' of this style they aren't going to be waterproof.

I've never heard any issues with sizing and my Swanni is true to size. However my advice to you is to scrap the idea of getting a Swanni and get a Bison Bushcraft Shirt instead http://www.bisonbushcraft.co.uk/bison_bushcraft_outfitters.htm They are much much better than the Swanni, made in the UK and from British wool. I have a couple of Swannies and a couple of Bisons and for me you can keep the Swannie, they are trading on a reputation they don't deserve. The Bison shirts are better made, more robust and made in Blighty - what more could you ask for?
