  1. Send me a message and I'll get you an answer.. John
  2. When the dust eventually settles on this unnecessary debacle, I believe BASC members will realise how important it is to have good, knowledgeable members sitting around the Council table. There is still time to vote in this year's Council election and there is one candidate who fits the bill as an experienced, knowledgeable shooting man :- Allen Musselwhite. If you or your friends haven't cast your vote as yet, please send your postal vote today or, better still, go to the BASC web site and follow the instructions to cast your vote. John
  3. It is working but it has it's moments. I can only suggest you keep trying. It won't let me in some days and I own it. John
  4. We are a democratic club and everyone gets treated the same, so if you want to join us you have to go through probationary membership whether you're new to shooting or have been a wildfowler for 40 years. We don't do permits because of landowner conditions and the danger posed by tides and as we're democratic we don't negotiate, our standards are what they are. John
  5. Sean Richo, It will be me you will be coming to see tomorrow. I don't know who you have been talking to but you haven't got all the facts. Tomorrow night we will be taking people onto the Waiting List to replace the 15 people who moved from the List into probationary membership at an induction meeting on Monday night. You don't have to do anything in order to go on the waiting list but when you become a probationary member, usually within a year, we have a scheme to mentor new members and help them to move up the learning curve of wildfowling knowledge. The Dee is a potentially dangerous estuary and we have a number of landowners such as RSPB and MOD who impose conditions and regulations that we must comply with in order to enjoy the shooting. Club members enjoy some of the best wildfowling in the country, last season they shot some 500 geese and several thousand ducks but its up to you whether or not you want to join us. John
  6. Very interesting to read the comments on my favourite duck. Back in the 60s when I started wildfowling it was common to see tens of thousands of Pintail flighting on a tide but mainly due to excessive, uncontrolled cockling for a couple of years the numbers dropped considerably but we still get more than our share with club members shooting a few hundred each season. The 2012-2013 season was the worst season for Pintail we've ever had but numbers were back to a more normal level last season. We shoot a majority of our Pintail in the September to December period with fewer being shot in January and February, perhaps the birds we lose are the ones which appear in other areas late in the season. John
  7. The Dee does not do day tickets, never has! A member can apply for a ticket to take a guest on but only one person at a time and no more than twice in one season. John
  8. The members of the Forum decided they wanted it to be private so it can't be found by doing a search using "Wildfowling Forum". The members tend to be older, more experienced and perhaps more serious about issues than members on PW but they're a friendly bunch who will welcome new members to the site. Since I did the earlier posting I've had 6 enquiries to join the Forum. If you are a member of a BASC affiliated club or can be vouched for by such a BASC member, you will be welcomed to the Forum. John
  9. To access the Wildfowling Forum if you're not already a member Google "Facebook Wildfowling Forum" and follow the instructions. John
  10. George1, On ebay you should be able to find copies of the BASC Handbook "Wildfowling" which I helped produce some years ago, it gives all the basic information that someone new to wildfowling needs to know to get started. And as George1 is hoping to join the Dee Wildfowlers, there is a super little book produced by the club back in the 80s called "Dee Wildfowler - The Last Professional" which is about a man called Harold Gill who, thanks to family wealth, was able to dedicate his life to wildfowling, and in particular punt-gunning, in the first half of the 20th century. The book does turn up on ebay every now and then and Coch-y-Bondu may have a copy or two. If you remind me before you come to the committee night in November, I think I might have a copy or two somewhere around the house. John
  11. George1, I've spoken to our Secretary and the only enquiry he's received in the past week is from an Ian Thomas, is that you? If not email me at ******************************* and I'll pass your details to the Secretary. John
  12. We have full membership at the moment but are certain to have some vacancies for next season. Apply to the Secretary via our website at www.deewildfowlers.co.uk. John
  13. Dave, Have you been in contact with Phil Roughley, Will Jones or Dave Watton, one of them will fix you up. John
  14. The Wildfowling Forum is a private and not a public site, membership has to be applied for. For more details Google "Wildfowling Forum Facebook". John
