There was a guy advertising places in a game syndicate in North Wales recently in the paid shooting section. He didn't mention deer but in his ad it says they have some kind of target shooting days so it's presumably cleared for centrefire, you could ask him who has the stalking rights.

Speaking as a person who used on that syndicate : Yes, there are deer in the area. No, they don't get shot - a number of the farmers like seeing the deer, and dropping deer would be a very quick way to lose the land for game and vermin shooting

Auctions generally realise the lowest prices.

    I would profoundly disagree.

Auctions mean you ONLY get real buyers, not the dreamers and timewasters - the usual requirement at an auction is that you MUST pay 10% of the hammer price at the time, the sale to be completed within 20 working days. The fall of the hammer forms a legally binding contract - if the buyers pulls out then they forfeit the 10% deposit.

Yes, you may get less than the estate agent valuation, but it will realise it's real value on the day - and if you happen to get 2 or 3 people who really want it and can afford to pay over the odds, then it can do very well indeed.

I've purchased a number of properties by auction over the years, and only on one occasion have I felt that I got the property cheaply

    Morning,

Hope you are well, it certainly seemed a very capable vehicle when I've seen it in action and makes the perfect shoot vehicle.

I highly recommended getting a price from Motorway, a friend of ours sold their car on there for £3000 more than what they valued it at, they actually offer you a reserve price, sell it to the trade in their auction to the highest bidder, no questions asked.

You just have to fill in a form, take the picture they ask and voila. GLWS either way, and look after yourself.

    Cheers, J.

Motorway don't touch anything with over 100k on the clock, unfortunately

  4. Strange that the 'Senodd' (it's actually Senedd) 'announced this', but there's no link to the actual announcement, which was probably done on a press release, so, you know, it would be on record or something, like on the Senedd's official website ? I've just had a look, and nothing there I can see

Almost makes you wonder if it's a load of bull, doesn't it ?

More likely it's one of the lunatic fringe green party has made an announcement that they WANT this to be looked at. Someone has added 2+2, got 46, and spread the word.

'Send reinforcements, we're going to advance', anyone ?

Absolute bargain, I think it is worth more than that.  Have you tried Motorway or We Buy and Car?

WBAC are actually where the offer was from - £3.5k initially, dropped due to the damaged bits.

I know prices are currently a bit silly, but we'd be happy with this price for the car - we bought it for a cheap price in 2017 (£6k), meaning that it's depreciated by somewhere around £500 per annum. I had a look on Autotrader, but the only problem is that these are quite rare, so not a lot to compare it against

  6. We've decided to sell our old Forester 'X', due to the fact that it gets almost no use any more.

2012/62 Forester 2.0 (150hp) petrol, in blue with a 5 speed manual gearbox, permanent 4WD, proper high/low box.

We've owned it since November 2017, the good lady upgraded to a newer version in summer 2019, meaning this became my 'shoot wagon'.

Mileage since then on the MOTs :

    November 2019 : 100,380

    October 2020 : 102,125

    November 2021 : 105,653

    Mileage today : 106,362

All checkable on the DVLA MOT history site.

Everything works apart from the radio (aerial broke off, CD and bluetooth for phone etc work fine), the car does have a few scuffs and minor scratches. One light lens (rear driver's side) is cracked, as can be seen in the pictures. The decent-sized scuff in another picture is on the rear bumper, just below the cracked light.

Features (I'm not going to list everything, only those things that might be extra - nothing more annoying than someone putting 'steering wheel') !

    Heated front seats

    Dog guard (aftermarket)

Bumper / boot sill protector (genuine Subaru item)

    Towbar with electrics (aftermarket)

Average economy pottering about is 30mpg. Can get up to 33 on a run.

Subaru had a recall a couple of years ago, they'd had a few cases of valve springs snapping. This car was in for that recall repair in summer 2021

I've been made a firm offer (after viewing) of £3200 from someone in the trade. As such, this is priced at £3500, and I am NOT willing to negotiate.

If you'd like more, or higher quality images, or have any other questions, then please ask

    Any inspection welcomed

  7. A has been said, really. The fluting means the bolt is far easier to operate in frozen / snowy conditions, as the fluting allows the static surface area to be minimised.

Or something like that - a friend in Accuracy International explained the reasoning, but I have to admit I wasn't paying full attention

  8. 12 hours ago, WalkedUp said:

Yes, futures are trading high. Concerned that we have set the price and birds, money is paid.

We may have to just reduce number of birds that we take (even if we have to pay the full price and just take fewer) - I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what the situation is closer to the time !

  9. A lot of good advice on here. A lot of people seem to just rock up at a farm, knock on the door, and ask if they can shoot / do pest control.

Ask yourself how YOU would react in that situation ?

If, on the other hand, the person is "I was walking over by the river yesterday, and noticed that the wheat / barley / whatever was getting hammered by the pigeons. I do a bit of pest control, and wanted to see if the farm had anyone looking after it ? Is it yours, or do you know who's it is ?"

Now the farmer is going to view that approach differently, because :

    1. You've identified a crop. Well done. That means you aren't a complete townie

    2. You've identified a problem. And offered a potential solution.

    3. You've shown that you have powers of observation. That you're switched on to the world around you.

If the land is his, then you've at least got him interested. And if the person with the permission isn't doing the job, that now gives him the chance to sack them off, and get you in - or even just to give you a chance on that one field.

Even if the land isn't his, he's now far more likely to say who does own it, and send you that way.

Cold calling - in any situation - has a horribly low hit rate. And you are cold calling, trying to sell something, yourself.

My D max is in the garage tomorrow, it’s still constantly regenerating it self every time I go out be it short or long runs, the dip stick is starting to read high and the oil was only changed just before I brought it a few days ago, it has all ready had new injectors under warranty by a previous owner, what the hell are these manufacturers doing.

If you only bought it a few days ago, and if you bought it from a garage, then take it back to where you bought it from for them to fix.

  11. Pretty certain it would be illegal. You are causing the bird to basically be wandering around blind, unable to defend itself or escape from any predators. Such a course of action is, by default, 'animal cruelty' and thus a criminal offence.

I'm sure there is no specified criminal offence of maiming a wild creature by ripping a leg off it, but it would obviously be a blatant an act of cruelty, and thus covered by the law.

  12. It'd be illegal for any shop to actually fill that with air without a full clean out, the entire thing being repainted, serviced, inspected. the valve changed, etc, etc.

Even then, I don't think it could actually be changed to a legal air-type valve, as the thread on those is completely different (precisely to stop people from using it for air by accident)

I would assume the reply was (like mine) in relation to London Best's post about vegetarians who shoot being hypocrites

Much like some shooters who just blat away at pigeons or other species on the GLs are hypocrites, pretending they're doing it for all the right reasons, when all they really want to do is 'test themselves' - which they could just as easily do on the clays

On the Sarasqueta, the LHS firing pin is set further into the action when 'cocked' and only just comes proud of the face when fired.

Gunsmith time or D.I.Y able? (Or scrap, it was £20)

The real question is, are you competent working on a gun.

If it fires when it closes - even once in 100 times - then it is dangerous. Personally, I'd want to know that someone professionally competent had looked it over and done anything that needed to be done.

And yes, I know there's going to be people piling in, saying "I wouldn't let a gunsmith touch any of my guns, in 1976 some muppet failed to fix a broken firing pin", or the suchlike.

2.6. Electronic power steering (EPS),Hidethis section

For the purpose of this inspection, electronic power steering includes any steering system that incorporates an electric motor to control or assist the steering.

If electronic power steering is an optional fitment on the vehicle but it’s been disconnected, the vehicle should only be failed if the steering is adversely affected. You may have to do a road test to check this.

If a vehicle has a manually switched electronic park assist but the power assistance is not working, the vehicle should only be failed if the steering is adversely affected. You may have to do a road test to check this.

For ‘fly by wire’ steering systems, check that the steered wheels are pointing straight ahead with the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

    Defect Category
    (a) EPS MIL indicating a system malfunction Major
    (b) On ‘fly by wire systems’, the angle of the steering wheel and the angle of the road wheels is:

    (i) inconsistent
(ii) inconsistent to the extent that the steering is adversely affected

    Major
    Dangerous
    (c) Electronic power assistance not working Major

That is for electronic power steering. I suspect an 02 Honda will have hydraulic power steering

I have a shed alarm in my gun room. It’s great and my wife loves it because at 3am every time I sleepily get my kit to go wildfowling the entire house gets a nice reminder I’m heading out and have a heart attack then bleed from the ears.

Tried going down the 'gun room' argument a few years ago

Unsurprisingly, I've still just got gun cabinets, and about 2500 cartridges in the garage !

  17. Basically, this :

It was sold as seen, as a private sale. No warranty, as you are a private seller, not a motor trader.

He has already made one deliberate attempt to defraud you by claiming that the turbo had gone, suddenly when he gets knocked back it's not the turbo, but something else instead.

As such, any further attempt by him to extort money will result in you taking the matter to the police for attempted fraud.

If he wishes to bring a claim against you in court, with an independent engineer's report (by a professional motor engineer from the approved panel) then he is of course welcome to do so. However he should be aware that you will produce his initial false claim in court as evidence of how dishonest he is, and that any evidence he provides should be treated bearing that in mind.

In short you either hear from the court, from his lawyer, or he gets stuffed.

  18. Trampling dog or cat food into the grass is good if you want the fox to stop in a location for more than a couple of seconds - for a rifle shot, for example. For a shotgun it's far less helpful.

Good positioning, drab clothing, the fox never even realises you were there until it's too late

  19. 1 hour ago, Dave-G said:

Would that be illegal just on cars from a certain date or all cars end of?

I know someone who has done it via the brake pedal wiring which needs to be active to allow the automatic to start as anti - theft precaution. Its quite an old motor.

I believe it's on all cars. But as I said, it's unlikely to ever be spotted unless the vehicle was in an accident.

  20. Foxes are largely creatures of habit, unless something disturbs them, they will travel the same routes between likely food source areas, at roughly the same times of day (daylight would be a better term, if it's a light evening then they will usually be later than a dark overcast evening.

Knowing that, the biggest trick with foxing with a shotgun is knowing where they want to be - the routes they want to use, and when they like to use them - and putting yourself on that route.

If you've seen them then you already know where they are, and the direction of travel, and the rough time of day. Basically, position yourself in a hedgerow, preferably with the fox coming towards you and the hedge at your back. Drab clothing, minimum movement, and wait for the fox to come to you.

I've got 223, but I take far more foxes with the 12 bore, just by being where they want to be, when they want to be there.

You can, with patience and experience, get them to within 10-15 yards before they figure out something isn't quite right

EDIT : In terms of cartridges, I use 42g Eley Alphamax BB in one barrel (punchy but effective), and if the fox comes closer than I can select the other barrel, which usually has 28g of No 5 - which will comfortably drop a fox out to 30 yards or more.
