Pulled over by police, again!!
DEADLY PLUMBER replied to Rst1990's topic in General Shooting Matters
Surely he could check your a licence holder on his radio with the control room in seconds. Also as a police officer he should carry out his duties without prejudice what ever his personal views are. Maybe your firearms officer can put him straight. I would pick up your carts and get his name and number just in case you get another tug by him. I carry a copy of my licence in my bag when out shooting mainly in case I get a tug. -
If you freeze frame the footage at the right moment you Can see the frame quite well. You might even be able to zoom in.

Nothing wrong with using a side x side. Well done.

However practical, is camo clothing not ridiculous?
DEADLY PLUMBER replied to Pothunter's topic in Talk From The Field
Fenboy I think your shade of white is not quite right. A bit lighter would do it. I put my camo jacket on when im entering the field. DPM army is my favourite. My trousers are usually my snickers work trousers or plain walking trousers. I would only use full camo if I really had to. In a hide it doesn't make a lot of difference your movement and headware is more important. I would personally feel a bit of a lemon in public in full camo and yes ive been a soldier. -
Head Above The Hide 2 - The Solution

Ha ha very good. Would you fit on a flapper. -
Thanks Trevor for a good day out on the rape. What a great place for a day out shooting. You are a lucky man. Plenty of birds about. Birds a bit decoy shy today. That's rape shooting. ATB. DP

On a few vid's I've watched he is shooting 34gram no:5's top grade carts with polished shot. I guess his gun has enhanced full chokes. That will give him the range to take them down. That said he is one hell of a shooter which helps. He also shoots at the underside of the birds. How many of those birds were clean kills who knows. Interesting to watch.

PC your barrels would melt it. That's if you have a tea break.

Just seen a flock of about 50 this eve. They got up off a field at dusk. 6.30 ish. What a coincidence as this thread got raised yesterday.
-
I've seen them many times over the years. Never up close and always on the wing. Always up high great to watch. Always wondered what bird they were. Golden Plover for me. Just had a look at some pictures. Good thread. Cloudwalker

Your probably right. I'm not an expert but I'm sure a bird with that size and power won't just eat carrion. Perhaps others on here will shed some light on their diet.

Had one try to take a shot pigeon off a field a few months ago. My Cocker took exception to that and chased him off. See them all the time. They are a magnificent bird.

Helpful books for the newbie ?
DEADLY PLUMBER replied to landydriver's topic in Pigeon Shooting Tips
+1 Very good book for the beginner. -
Well done nice bag. If you shoot it again in the next few days. Try flagging the far end of the field off. That might make a big difference. Good luck.
-
Very good. We're you dancing to the funky pigeon. Or I shot the sheriff.

Movement is the key. Keep still. Keep your face concealed. As for noise I often have a small radio so I can listen to the football or cricket. Or I'm telling my young Cocker to keep still and stay.

Thanks for raising this issue today Fenboy. I have a similar dilemma with my Cocker. He's 21 months old and just needs to calm down a bit and listen a bit more. He is less driven by other dogs. But is mad for working. He has one hell of a nose on him and loves getting into thick cover. I think he just needs a bit more time and I need to improve my training skills.

Sorry Jdog I'm a bit late on this thread. To back up your new calling cards you could try another angle with the farmers. You could get written references from the farmers you shoot for now. That might just swing it in your favour also it will show your proven track record in the sport. Good luck.
-
Well done Jdog a good result in the end. It paid off putting up with the weather and worked in your favour in the end.
-
Well done Jdog nice bag. Forget the tash. It's all in your new Onezee. Did it keep you warm ?.

Pigeon behaviour differences round the country?
DEADLY PLUMBER replied to turbo33's topic in Talk From The Field
You might be finding the birds are heading into spring mode. Now the weather is getting a bit warmer. Round my way they are cooing and starting to pair up on mild days. The flocks are starting to break up a bit. But if it goes cold it will be back to winter mode. They will have to feed mostly on rape still as their is not much else about at the moment. -

That would be interesting. PC Vs Peter Theobald Clash of the titans and not a pigeon left in Essex. -
