  1. Shotguns were lucky - there was a special provision to allow non-S1-conforming to be altered (18" barrel to 24", folding stock to fixed etc.) to avoid S5. With most other guns, once classified as S5, they stay that way. Then, the only lawful way to retain one, would be deactivation.
  2. Section 5 is the prohibited (banned) category... that's semi and full auto centre-fires, handguns, rocket launchers, exploding ammunition etc. It is the list of things we can't have! When high capacity shotguns were recategorised, they went from Section 2 (shotgun licence) to Section 1 (firearms licence).
  3. Ban targeting just .50 cal and MARS according to BASC, in an update from today: https://basc.org.uk/blog/press-releases/latest-news/plans-to-change-firearm-laws-not-supported-by-evidence-says-basc/
  4. It'll be a lot of noise / bad press if the government don't compensate after seizing (stealing) lawfully acquired and used property. Still, the reclassification may not go ahead. Grandfather rights may apply - or they may even move to S5 with a competitive shooting exemption (just like S5 expanding bullets worked for hunters).
  5. Benelli M2 used to be the default go-to gun (and in many circles still is). Everyone I knew with one a few years ago would spend hundreds upgrading it to get it competition ready... The newer SP looks like a good option OOTB, but it's still £1500. The Beretta 1301 Comp would be my choice now (c. £950). The Beretta is gas operated rather than recoil - but realistically this just means you need to clean it every 200 rounds or so. ...and yeah, Hatsan MPA's... good value gun, but frustrating to use for PSG - the loading gate costs you loads of time and there's no real way to fix it. Strictly for the casual shooter. If you only have a £ 500 budget - get a used version of something else.
  6. If your mate sells 'em (and if your local to Cambs), I'll buy them. Anyone into target shooting will know there's still plenty of (long barrelled) "hand guns" around. I've got a stainless steel, 7 shot .357 magnum revolver and a Marlin lever action. I load .38 special and .357 mag for both.
  7. Is he a member of a target shooting club? You can use members rifles on a guest day if so?
  8. As the title states, I looking for a reasonable priced shotgun for clay pigeon shooting. Not ultra fussy, but my basic requirements are: 12 bore Multi-choke Not an auto-safety Reasonable condition Within 30 minutes drive of Peterborough or Spalding Priced no more than £400.
  9. I don't think there's any legislation to suggest that? Correct me if I'm wrong.
  10. Tis true. We (as a nation) love an underdog.... But, if the underdog consistently moans about their position, they lose their appeal. Yeah, racing is about bikes, but Rossi's popularity isn't just about his wins. Crutchlow needs to learn that.
  11. Do you mean that you missed a month's payment on a couple of your cards or that you actually 'defaulted' the account (missing 6 months of payments, then having the accounts closed). If it's the former, it's not a massive issue - particularly if you have a deposit bigger than 30% of the mortgage value. If it's the latter, you'll struggle to find a mortgage for at least three years after the default - 6 if you don't clear it yourself. If you've got "nearly have of the value" of £250k, why not just buy a house for cash and then save up? A £150k mortgage will cost you around £850-900p/m for 25 years! Saving that amount at the same rate would take less than 14 years (and you wouldn't be in t'shiz if you lost your job etc).
  12. Er, if that can actually fire a cartridge, you realise it's a prohibited weapon...
  13. It is strange - I hope the member of public hadn't actually bought a copy...
  14. I know more and more people hiring cleaners - and not especially wealthy people either. Just 'normal' people, usually working couple who'll get a cleaner in once a week or so - doesn't sound too expensive by all accounts. Whilst I'd like someone to clean my house for me, I don't think I could trust a stranger like that - I don't want to have to lock up / bolt everything down to get my house cleaned.
  15. What point are you trying to make? He may have let you know he's a veggie (maybe be declining a bacon sarnie), but you've obviously let him know you shoot live quarry. Why is that different?
  16. I'm actually a vegetarian and I don't "hunt" or shoot any live game or vermin etc. So, what am I doing on PW? Well, after getting in to clay pigeon shooting, I was looking for an active forum where I could read and talk about guns and (target) shooting. That's what I found and I'm pretty happy to be here. Although some of my views probably make me hypocritical in some areas, I'd like to think I have a reasonably balanced outlook on things. I understand why people shoot pigeons and game, why they go rabbiting and / or foxing and the effect it has on our farming and countryside. I'm not 'anti' any of those things. In my eyes, the worst people are the ones that would denounce game shooting as 'cruel', yet they'll happily eat meat from a factory animal that's suffered months of poor treatment - all the while feeling morally superior because they don't 'kill' animals themselves... I don't like mass-commercial farming. To me, the health and welfare of livestock is important and something we (as a people) should take responsibility for - when most don't. They way some livestock is treated (particularly overseas) is appalling. Many people don't care, so long as they can buy 'beef' burgers for pence and whole chickens for a couple of pounds. For that reason, so far as meat goes, like Duncan Bannatyne "Am oot!". Talk to most of the people on here and they'd never dream of subjecting their quarry to any unnecessary suffering and take a great deal of care that anything getting despatched (whether for food, sport of pest control) is done in a humane and responsible way. That's why I'm happy to post here any don't feel the need to rattle my stick at any thread covering those topics.
  17. Check the case length - the brass will stretch after firing - have you trimmed back to suit? Also, why are you only bothering with a neck resize? Surely a full-length resize is going to be the most reliable way forward?
  18. The Ducati prototype was showing some promise, so maybe they've got something up their sleeve... ...but, in all likelyhood, Cal's gonna become a wealthy also-ran for the prime of his career. At least he'll have a good reason to grumble now.
  19. That's not selling the Winchester well. Unless you're reloading, that makes a big difference to the running costs. If I was gonna get stuck with a bigger bang (and the associated cost), I'd have got the L/A in .44
  20. Wouldn't a new rifle have had to be proof fired (in the UK)?
  21. I'd really recommend the Marlin - great build quality (unless it's an early Remlin) and good spares back up in the UK. Rossi's are good value for money, but when you compare the details between that and a Marlin, you can see the difference. Winchester's seem to be the least loved. But the prices reflect that.
  22. ...and the fact that if you're larger than a Japanese person, you'll look a bit silly on one. Elephant riding a bicycle and all that...
  23. As a first (big) bike, you should be looking at something producing around 80-100bhp. Suzuki SV650's, ER-6's and any other <750 twin are for short girls... don't do it (unless you'll be commuting, in which case they can make a lot of sense). On the flip side, don't be tempted by a ZX-10, GSX-R 1000 or similar. Yes, they only go as fast as you tell them to - but the temptation is always there and they respond violently to small mistakes. If you have your heart set on a race replica, the GSX-R 600 is fine (if not a little peaky). More sensible options are upright bikes like the FZ-6 and newer Bandit etc. That way, you're under no pressure to ride faster than your ability.
  24. I've got an MPA I'd sell pretty cheap. Looking for an FAC and it's more expensive to convert than buy again
