  1. I had forgotten to put this on PW. Some will have already seen it if you subscribe on YouTube.

  3. I couldn't agree more. Well said that man.
  4. Just to close the topic out, I have found an offer I can't turn down in the optics warehouse sale. Nikko Stirling Mount master 4-16 x 50 illuminated. Thanks for all your help.
  5. It is good advice, and advice I would like to follow. My issues are that I know next to nothing about optics and in my experience, asking a shop will result in them selling you what they had most of, what they have in stock, or what they are looking rid of. This is why I am asking on PW. If I said that my budget is around £120 for scope (and mounts if necessary) are there any standout recommendations? Oldpigeonpopper, there are indeed some great deals in that sale! Thanks.
  6. What are Milbro scopes like?
  7. Something like this? https://countrywaygunshop.co.uk/product/hawke-fast-mount-3-9x50-ao-ir-mil-dot-rifle-scope-mounts/
  8. Great advice. Thanks. I will have alook at the Hawke scopes.
  9. A chance upgrade from my old springer to my first precharged air rifle has left me looking for a half decent scope for it. The one I had on the springer is cloudy, battered and bruised. Plus the magnification isn't enough for my aging eyes. Are there any recommendations? I don't mind spending for the right scope but air rifle shooting is not something I will be doing a huge amount of. Plinking and vermin control will be it.
  10. Am I right in saying that no Caesar guerini gun is hp steel proofed? The Magnus is 3 inch but isn't hp steel proofed. If so, it's a bit disappointing.
  11. I was a member. A lot of brilliant content but there were some members just waiting to pick holes and pounce on inexperienced members. I found it very heavily policed by BASC. A wildfowling club I was in at the time was struggling (and subsequently went under) and as secretary I had asked BASC for guidance and assistance. They were less than helpful, saying that they heard this type of thing all the time, belittling our situation. I posted my frustration on the Wildfowling Forum and was staggered to receive a phone call from a high ranking BASC Officer (who is still with them!), not offering help, but almost telling me off for speaking ill of BASC. I was subsequently suspended from the forum too ( temporarily) - presumably because of the links the forum founder had with BASC. It was 20 years before I rejoined BASC. Great content, but very cliquey.
  12. Thanks for the help everyone. I've gone for the Work Sharp.
  13. Thanks Touchstone. They do look great but I was budgeting for Lansky or Work Sharp systems. I think I've narrowed the field to Lansky or Work Sharp. Lansky is tried and tested but seems unusable without buying the extra stand. Work sharp Precision (the aluminium one) is a complete system but I can't find anywhere that sells new stones. Edit : I have now found somewhere who sells the work sharp stones. Work Sharp takes the lead.
  14. Like most of us, I have a fair few knives. I've also started to make a few of my own but I'm struggling to get a good edge on them. I've heard people recommend the Lansky system but was wondering if there are other alternatives to consider. TIA
  15. Thanks Cranfield. It is informal, and all the better for it! Three dogs can be a handful- you can't keep them all in view and a lot of trust has to go on. Ted is loving life, albeit aided by Loxicom.
  16. Cheers! There are syndicates and syndicates. I'm fortunate to be in one where I'm surrounded by like-minded people. You need the skin of a rhino. Snowflakes need not apply.
  17. A wee syndicate day. Lots of fun for the dogs and plenty of craic. It is meant to be fun and it certainly was.
  18. Thanks 👍 Cheers ! The water was extremely high! If it gets much higher the hide will be at risk of demolition (again.) Cheers Gerry. Thanks for the comment. Yes, you're absolutely right about the walk out in the dark. The wading staff was used to feel the way. Thanks Simon. Cheers.
  19. Thanks for the comment. I normally use and experienced dog alongside the newbie. The new dog, although keen, doesn't know to keep swimming back until I stop saying back. The experienced dog teaches the new one about distance simply as the new one follows! Buster is not as naturally confident in water as the other two but is fine to a normal 30 to 40 yards. This one was 50 or 60 and he didn't see it coming down. And, as you say, he couldn't see it on the water. If he had seen it, he'd have retrieved it and learned a valuable lesson. But he didn't. It was my mistake not to bring Bear or Ted. Or both.
