  1. Our first season we released 70 ringed ex layers straight into cover at dusk. 6 days shooting returned 13 birds that were ringed. Three seasons later two more of these birds were shot. I suspect there is still one or two around still. If your prepared to get a zero return then what's the harm?
  2. Tree rat day for three of us from our shoot. 41 little *******! Total 707
  3. We have a clay shoot annually, makes £300. A hog roast inviting people along, makes £150. At this we raffle a 50 bird day, went for £300. Surely you can make a few quid somewhere?
  4. I have three flappers on intermediate timers. On rape especially I find movement important, three means you should always have movement in your pattern.
  5. If that's where their feeding, that's where you need to be!
  6. Welcome and well done, a good day! Mr pigeon
  7. We managed 35.8% on pheasants. 84.7% on ducks 13% partridge. Our pheasants and partridges are ex layers and we have no neighbouring shoots so very happy.
  8. Hi there, 50-75 but not worried if more are shot. Hope that helps
  9. Hi guys I MAY possibly be looking for a team of 8 guns to buy the one and only sold day on my syndicate shoot. The day will be early November and consist of pheasant, duck and partridge. Price is £30 a bird. It is on the Hampshire West Sussex border. Bacon roll and coffee in the morning. Usual sloe gin, toffee vodka, blackberry whiskey. Lunch ie pies jacket potato tea coffee cakes. 5 driven drives. Brace of birds at end of day. It is a hampshire shoot so don't expect starlings but birds are well presented. Reasonable dogs welcome. Other halves welcome. It is a family shoot so a relaxed fun enjoyable atmosphere is guaranteed. Pm if your interested. Many thanks

  12. We had our beaters day on the 10th, shot 57 which was a record for our shoot! Two weeks later we shoot 58!
  13. Yes the bucket stops it going everywhere! It's obviously moist so does come out stringy sometimes but its perfect for hand feeding. Or put it through spreader.
  14. I use mine for wild mushrooms I pick, added bonus of a stock when you rehydrate! Dried berries for fruit gin or vodka, ( this year blackberry whiskey). Normal fruits apple etc The list goes on. Good luck!
  15. Not sure on make but I know it was a cheap second hander! Adaptor wise was just a bucket with handle taken off and a hole cut out of the bottom to fit the pipe. Sort of acts like a funnel but upside down if that makes sense?! Can't do pics as I'm on my iPhone and not savvy to uploading things!
  16. Hi mate, we use an electric garden shredder. Made an adaptor to cover the top and reduce it down to about 2 1/2". Then just feed them in whole! Time consuming but pheasants and more so our partridge love it!
  17. She was on a drip, to be honest first off I thought I'd lost her. He then gave her regular visits through the night which I was allowed to attend. He tested her for numerous bits and piecs then recommended a scan. After the scan it was confirmed. Small liver and kidneys. Being a shooting man himself with gun dogs of his own, I was slightly surprised he'd not heard of pemmikin but on inspection ( I took some into him a week or so after ) he said its perfect for gun dogs. I must say my other completely healthy cocker seems alot more responsive, bright and energetic for the whole shoot day now she's having the supplements aswell.
  18. Had same situation with one of my cockers, first day out on her own with me. She was bounding along then next minute she's in a patch of brambles not coming out, moving or responding. On retrieving her she fitted, this was while I was carrying her back to the car. Got her to the vets and two days later got her back. Turned out her liver and kidneys are smaller than usual and she couldn't store enough glucose. That was four years ago. Ever since she has been fine. Pemmikin in her breakfast a few hours before we go and small pieces all day long, good as gold. Scarred the hell out of me.
  19. What about contacting your local seed merchants? They may come out and advise you on the best one.
  20. We have no surrounding shoots, put down ex layer pheasant and partridge. They are at 22% and 10% respectively. We also put down young ducks and are at 34%. We have just had our best day of the season so I expect next two days to be great aswell! Only just over half way through our days so plenty of time to get the numbers right! Good luck all!
  21. So do you want a a shoot that raises 100s or 10,000s? Most people on here would love someone knowledgable on their shoot, I for one. If you don't get any takers give me a shout!
  22. Hi lee, what size of shoot you looking at? Are you really prepared to do it unpaid? Fair play to you, you must be very passionate about it. Good luck!
