  1. Ta Folks for the support. The Pigeon s have left today. Counted 4 pigeonson or around rape today. Must be drilling in the fens Ps Im in Hunts cambridgeshire
  2. One thing being fair weather another sitting in minus 5 windchill. Ive been windsurfing when there is ice on the shore so im a lot hardy than most. I just enjoyed the 3hr walk around the edge of the land to get an idea of the scale of task, plus the odd pop shot to keep the gun happy. Lad enjoyed it too. Its no fun sat in the cold without moving. Sorry not a flask or soup man before i get pigeon soup recipes.
  3. Just got my first permission and its on my doorstep. Plus i can use the rangie to get to the outer reaches of the fields. Have woods to the rear, brooke p.lenty of trees for cover. Whats the price per woody at the moment. Does the price go up with the seasons and is it more the further south you go. Just looking at the flight lines and where they land at the moment as its been too cold to sit in a hide this last couple of weeks. So looking forward to some warmer summer sport with my lad and the dad this coming season.
  4. I have a miroku ore. The proof marks on the barrels will give you an idea of the year. Mine was the last of the z marks and dated 74. if you have cross swords and a b on the right and a letter on the left then its pre 74. Take it to your local gun shop and ask them to give you an idea of the chokes as they could have been rebored to a different choke later in life. Obviously buying a slab or cleaning solutions would open the gates for a free apraisal.
  5. I? picked up a miroku Ore (early 800) off gunstar for £200. Took apart., glued the forend and True oiled the wood. Great gun and did the stock slightly left handed bias. Local gun shop said theyd retail it for £750. loads of bargains out there. Just be on the look out and be quick.
  6. Sorry but this is a rubbish investment . I bought my Holland and Holland for £60,000. 11 years later all the dealer offered me was £5000. Like an idiot i took it as I was desperate for ther money, but thats life. Sorry did i forget to mention it was a p38 rangie
  7. I think this thread has gone on so long due to the pc weve all forced to conduct our lives by in the last 25 years. Its a sad day when we cannot say what we want to say when we want to say it. Sorry but whatever you say will always offend someone in the world. Shooting pigeons is one of the subjects that will soon be classed as bad as fox hunting. Does anyone know what the environment agency stand is on this subject. Can we just conclude to read the GL and make sure you understand it If anyone comes calling you have the answers they want. To the original post. A good full powered rifle is what you need. It need to be as close to the 12 ft lbs you can get. Id personnally go for a 177 and a underlever or break barrel for budget. Forget co2 as you can never guess how much gas is left, and obviously head shots only. A nice scope aound 6-9 mag will help you pick out a feather.
  8. I know a wild bird is not the same as a game bird. The whole reason for the thread was the original thread stated he wanted to shoot pigeons in his garden for fun. He got flamed for this . So i was merely throwing in the fact that its ok to kill them on a farm . In fact its ok to do a few hundred if you want, but not in you back yard as this is not the same circumstances.
  9. Have we concluded then its ok to shoot a pigeon in a farmers field as youve got the excuse of the crop but not at home as no excuse can be given and can be done by the rspb. An air rifle can be used for pest control. Pigeon is classed as vermin. Your on your own land so whats correct in the laws eyes as we are seeing more than a little confliction here
  10. Just pointing out that its ok to shoot a pheasant for fun and everyone would agree with that who go shooting, but not a pigeon thats a pest and needs controling. I know thats the law. Using a gun to kill you need to be able to block out that fluffy animal with big eyes staring at you. Like it or not it takes you past what is taken as normal
  11. Sorry but i find this amussing. A pigeon is fare game. Its a pest and spreads all sorts of nasty bugs. Its a pain in my garden as it puts off any small birds nesting as they are constanting ******** , fighting and nesting. If anyone asks you why your shooting them its simple. I want to eat them. Thats it. End of Story. no one will bother you. Ive seen pictures of 100s of pigeons shot in a single location.and is in all shooting mags but will go to a game dealer who will send to france where they will eat them. The feet are then put in soup in china. hmmmmm I live in the country and the farmers given me permission to shoot . Flocks of 100s of birds land on his crop. Then they fly off and land in my garden **** fight and nest. Its a pest not a protected eagle. You have to be slightly a bit on the sadistic side to kill and eat your own grub and to own your own gun. Sorry we are desendants of hunters and have animal instincts. Sorry shooting pheasants is for pleasure as you cannot eat 20 birds and you pay for the privlage. Its not for pest control. No i dont go pheasant shooting ive got better things to spend my money on. Dont get me wrong im no towny, im the son of a game keeper when i was a boy and had a pet fox.
  12. Got a few cracks in mine. Does anyone have one or know anyone who may have one Thanks
  13. Just got back from sporting targets. He had a good look at it and took it in the back room and i heard a drill . Just a few minutes later can back good as new. Sold me a good bisely thick bronze scrubber which i uses again with a drill and wooden shaft when i got home. Bores are as good as new. Thanks everyone for your input . Also told me 1/4 and 3/4 chokes on it. The Miroku shot well and i like the monte carlo stock. Now going to give it some tlc. Strip the varnish off and give it a good oil finish with true oil.
  14. Thanks Will get an opinion closer to home first. Im only 10 miles from sporting targets so will get an an idea off them first
