Archery and shooting, not done much shooting for years now re-applying for fac, after long break.
  1. I think your right cant go wrong, checked one out yesterday rather not spend £500 if I have to..
  2. Hello, I recently purchased a Nikko Gameking 6x24 x 50 Mill Dot, I couldnt decide if I really needed a 24 x scope I thought a cheapish approach would be the best plan before I make the next step for a better scope. Having shot at targets at 130 yards, 1 inch groups are very easy with .17hmr. (with wind). That said the optics on this scope are poor beyond belief, the top image and lower image are constantly foggy/milky, and this gets progressively worse at higher magnifications, when sighting up the target its near impossible to find any head position which will allow any clear view across the lens, the only clarity is the centre. Having purchased a Mounmaster for my air rifle, the optics on this scope are many more times clearer with no foggy images even at the top end. Anyone else had this experience?, Now looking into a MTC and or Redfield??
  3. Finally purchased my CZ455 in .17hmr. The guys at the local shop, Did a great job in helping me select a silencer. We tried the SAK and Hogan, standing approx 30 yards from the rifle being shot, the chap firing the rifle agreed the Hogan had substantially better sound deadening qualities over the SAK. Both Hogan and SAK are approx £58.00 proofed, but the difference in sound suppression goes to the Hogan... The Hogan moderator is bigger than the SAK therefore the additional volume will help, also the Hogan unit has wadding packed inside the silencer (the SAK does not).
  4. We all know this is a cash generating scheme, lets face it air rifles are hardly mass murder weapons... If this gets going in Scotland when would it arrive in the UK?, surely government wouldn't miss out on this cash windfall!. I was wondering when Archers would need license?, Bows create far more energy than air rifles ever could especially compound bows....only time will tell...
  5. I recently posted a topic concerning my HW90, I have received the rifle from the original store after a brief working over by a gunsmith. I shot the weighty beast earlier today and discovered the trigger has a new lease of life and barrel has had a thorough cleanse. I understand the chap who worked on it discovered packing grease had not been fully removed hence accuracy could have been compromised. One piece of knowledge learnt was as follows, the HW90 barrel has the last few inches set up in a choke configuration, essentially tightening up the bore. ((Firstly is the true?))... That said I shoot my revitalised HW90 with Accupell, pointed/ though the heads are relatively roundhead .22, shot at 25 metres with groups averaging 10/18mm. Tried again with RWS Superdomes, the result was rather random 1inch and wider groups. I did notice the Accupell had a tighter pellet head, the RWS in comparison was looser. Now I can get back to shooting this thing as originally intended.
  6. Thanks for the video, I didnt know Joss Ackland shot rifles,ha ha, valid point taken though....Having the trigger mechanism re-worked should improve things, waiting to collect.....cheers
  7. Thanks, Im not that old and knackered.....been bench testing the rifle....unless my arms have turned to jelly....
  8. Hi, not sure what the trigger is, Rekord?, it has two stages and adjuster, the poor girl went into repair today.....had to view a .17hmr, 150yard range, yes please......
  9. Not sure what the trigger is on the HW90, Cant recall my old HW77's but i do remember it had a great feel, and a sense i knew when the pellet would go... My current HW90 trigger is two stage but lacking in feel.... anyway it is faulty and hopefully when sorted bliss will return to my life... Should have bought a HW100 as originally planned
  10. I am sure a good one is brilliant, when mine decides to play ball, it really is fantastic.... but it is very inconsistent. Ive been doing archery for about 10 years and I shoot a compound bow, i can honestly out perform this rifle from 20 yards up to 60 yards without any worries...shame you cant hunt with bows!!!. I hope when i get the gun back from repair it will shoot better, but this experience has wasted so much of my time, i am really hoping i can get my fac, and a whole new world of long range antics will be planned..I think I have simply purchased a lemon, I love HW guns, always have done and honestly they have been great. I would consider a .22lr, but not another HW90..
  11. Hello, This is the exact issue, tried it again today what a suprise bang on for 8 shots then couldnt hit a barn door at 40 yards.....trigger is playing up and not responding to any adjustment, also had several miss fires. Its going back to the shop tomorrow.... I am bemused by this issue and to be honest I am waiting to get my fac, so I dont think this will be in my hands for long, its as bad as my first gun....not gonna mention the make as it will upset sooooo many...Roll on FAC......
  12. I had many airguns in the past, this is by far the most confusing. I have to admit the recoil is somewhat harsh and kicks in really fast, a steady shooting position is a must, Ive been shooting on bench so it should be consistent......I doubt tuning this to fac levels will benefit this gun especially at the moment. I hope to get this corrected I think the trigger could have alot more tweaking potential. Must say my HW77 was ace so consistent.... As I have a trigger fault ( wont release when fired/shoot 100 percent of the time), this must be having some effect???... Will be returning to the shop next week to get this fixed under warranty....Cheers for message
  13. I agree, I think the trigger needs so subtle tweaking yes, but I am still not totally convinced this is as consistent as it should be. When the thing is shooting straight its simply ace. Then a wild batch of pellets kicks in, then maybe 5/7 pellets later it settles. Seating the pellet a few mill helped no end.. I agree with domed pellets, pointy things are a bit of gimmick in my opinion (no doubt I will be slated for this).. Thanks for the suggestions I will persevere, I want to get this this thing bang on....as it should
  14. Hello, It could possibly be the barrel?, This is a new gun and feels solid when breaking the barrel, I have tried to feel for any unwanted movement nothing apparent. Will check again very soon...
