I think that might be a bit presumptious.

I wonder how much the private sector in Scotland relies on customers from England. Nobody can truly 'go it alone'. I think this has more to do with immigration, and the supply-demand curve for cost of an average workers' labour.
  3. Small shot like this is popular in Greece and Cyprus. Victory are a Cypriot cartridge manufacturer - not sure if they have representation in the UK, but you can ask them. http://www.victorycartridges.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=15 Edit: Google found this: http://rkstockcraft.co.uk/ammunition/shotgun-cartridges/
  4. I bet the Ukranians wish they had a deterrent
  5. I've had a stainless gas bbq for over 10 years and aside from replacing the burners, it has not missed a beat. Get something 100% stainless - make sure you can get spares now and in the future. You don't need lava rocks - in fact I'd advise against it. PITA to clean and offers no flavour advantage. Weber gas bbqs are top notch, but expensive. A neighbour has an outback- it is very nice and cooks well. The Aussies know a thing or two about BBQ. The one I have was bought from Costco - their own brand.
  6. Quite right, and we would have a much more fragmented vote - meaning smaller parties like the BNP would have a foot in the door. They got very few votes this time around, but you can be sure that people's voting patterns will change with PR - meaning dozens of parties with M P's, no outright winner, and having endless dithering and compromises within coalition governments. I'm not saying we don't need to change something, but outright PR is not really viable for how the UK populace expect to choose their politicians.
  7. One downside I can see of PR is a much higher fragmentation of the vote - and endless coalitions to form a government. I for one am happy that one party (in my opinion the right one) won outright. They can finally get stuff done without hindernance or pandering.
  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2015/results So, UKIP get 12.6 of the national vote share (so far) - but only one seat. SNP 4.8% of the national vote share - and 56 seats. Is this democracy?

    Tory majority

It will happen - there is no coalition to prevent it, but it will be cautiously worded - and perhaps not be an explicit in-out referendum. Something on the order of 'would you like the UK to re-negotiate the terms of their EU membership' rather than 'do you want britain to leave the EU'. It will be used as a bargaining chip with the EU to change the terms of membership. Not sure if that is possible, but I think we will be seeing a harder line on Europe in general rather than the Ben-Dover arrangement Labour and the coalition had with the EU in the past

    sd cards

Just be careful who you buy from - there are loads of fake Sandisk cards around. If you buy from amazon, make sure it is sold by amazon and not a 3rd party seller or fulfilled by amazon on behalf of a 3rd party seller. Not that all 3rd party sellers sell bogus cards - but it's not worth taking the chance to save a couple of quid. As an alternative to Sandisk - you can try this - I have one and it works well http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J29BR3Y

I think the Tories (and the UK) have the SNP to thank for this result. Wiping out Labour in Scotland, and handing votes to the conservatives in England.
  12. Yes - they have a product for that - Sonos Connect:AMP
  13. Go to YouTube and search for 'sonos review' - it will give you a good idea of what is about. Richer sounds sell them - I'm sure they can give you a demo.
  14. Looks nice - but price - Ouch!
  15. I've not used an airplay system in anger - but I have used a friends Sonos system. The integration is remarkable. Take all your MP3's - be they on aNAS, iTunes or whatever, add all the internet radio stations, Spotify, Pandora, and other similar services, and integrate them into one seamless interface on your tablet or phone. A party I was at a bunch of very non-gearhead people were able to search for music, and add it to the Sonos playlist for the evening - from all sorts of sources. At one point in the evening, tensions got a bit high with regards to music selection (alcohol may have been a factor), so the men-folk went into another room and had the Sonos stream a separate playlist to that room. I must say, I was impressed at the integration and ease of it all.
  16. I'm actually surprised Apple have not released a standalone Sonos type system (yet).
  17. The Sonos stuff is probably the way forward. If you have an amp and speakers already - you can get the Sonos Connect. If you only have speakers, then the Sonos Connect:AMP. If you want to start from scratch - just look at the other Sonos offerings. They are on the pricey side, but the integration is pretty seamless. You control it all from your smartphone or tablet.
  18. DPA doesn't mean they can't have the CCTV camera where it is - just that they are subject to the DPA. I.e. they have to provide you with copies of all the captured video of you for 10 quid
  19. Don't they put a bit of wood in the tube in the US? In some states you can own a shotgun which holds 7 rounds - just can't hung with more than 2 or 3 in there at any one time. So you stick a bit of wood in there to prevent that.
  20. People I know (some of them die-hard Nikonians) love the Fuji X series such as the X-Pro1. The bodies and lenses are pricey though. As for the iPhone - I use mine alot too and the quality is very impressive. You know the old saying - the best camera is the one you have with you.
  21. Here you go: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/4002587245/leica-m-monochrom-type-246-offers-live-view-and-boosted-iso-range No auto focus, no colour even. £5750 Bargain! Seriously if money were no object i'd have one. I love B&W.
  22. I've yet to come across a small camera with the performance of a DSLR. Picture quality - yes they are very capable - but there are always compromises with focus acquisition and and shutter lag. I'm sure they will come eventually - mirrorless is how things are moving. I have an EOS-M (the first gen) and picture quality is great, and with the adapter, I can put all my DSLR lenses on it (which can look a bit silly considering the size of the camera) - and while it frustrates me at times with focus speed etc - it is the only camera I take with me now. I keep it in a tarras bag, and it comes with me everywhere. Can't say that about the DSLR - which weighs in at 5lbs fully loaded - and that's just the camera and lens - not all the other stuff in my gear bag.

Some nice memorials here in the UK too. If you are ever in the area visit the Air Forces Memorial. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Forces_Memorial Fittingly - it is right by the Heathrow flight path and only a 10-15 minute drive from Heathrow itself.

Yes, the American one is beautiful - but for me, the most moving was the German one. Not a lot of people visit it, but just about every grave (or it seemed to me) was either of an unknown soldier or some young teenager kid pressed into war. Very sad. There is also a British one (though many other nationalities are buried there). Driving through northern France & Belgium there were war cemeteries everywhere. Right in the middle of busy towns - shops and offices on either side - but the cemeteries & memorials are immaculate. Nice to see so much respect for the fallen.
