  1. I was over in Scarborough yesterday and there was a huge flock of pigeon in the air just as you come into the town where the fishing lake is. Must have been 300 plus in the sky.
  2. Hi, is the gun still for sale ?...……….would you accept £100 ?...…….can collect this weekend.

    Kind regards

    Gary

  3. If they are coming into your fed splash to eat the food you have put in then that is where you should shoot !...…..I take it they are coming in on an evening ?...…..As it gets darker you can pretty much crouch /stand by the waters edge, I have found duck pretty forgiving as the darkness creeps in.....best of luck and let us know how you get on.
  4. My problem is that I have to walk it in, no vehicle access, can get 6 sacks of barley there but how long would the last ?.....i know it depends how many duck you have coming in.....but thought maybe paper sacks would start coming apart in 6 weeks time and a sack poured on top would help them break them up.... Only can get barley on the pond Ken, 6 sacks how long would that last ?
  5. I have a pond, middle of nowhere on a west coast island. Only visit every 6 weeks and can’t put an auto feeder out as not enough capacity and salt in air has **** them before......great area for teal and mallard and my mate has suggested putting a load of barley in potatoe sacks which should rot down in water within weeks for when we return and keep the birds interested .......hmm hmm comments please......

    Swifts

Had a spotted flycatcher sitting on eggs against the side of the house...…..came out this morning and the nest had been ragged out and eggs gone...…..crow, magpie, squirrel...…..who knows …...
  7. Have a slight fishy tang to them I find, bit like a cross between a swan and a cormorant I find..
  8. Had this off a greylag I shot a few years back, was 6 years on from it being ringed as an adult...…………..it went for burgers !
  9. Been a good year for them this year, plenty about
  10. Good honest write up, this is why we do it.....you will be thinking about it ....and the next flight as you go to sleep tonight....
  11. The migrants have a faint Russian/Scandinavian accent
  12. Don’t believe that at all mate, most of the birds coming out of the forestry blocks where I shoot will undoubtedly be migrants, yes there will be some homegrown amongst them but the sheer numbers we see are migrants. Shooting as we do doesn’t disturb them and we have good numbers year on year........this year seems to be very good....
  13. My favourite bird along with wild duck......flushing out of thick cover or flighting out of forestry blocks.....on the plate it has no equal..
  14. Get yourself another pup mate, you won’t have many spare minutes to think about the one you’ve returned. All your time will need to be focused on the new arrival and even though you won’t forget your priorities will be looking after the new one...
  15. Sat myself in a hedge with the dog dodging the white outs.....birds were on the wing in big packs not committing to the decoys but coming near enough to knock a few down.....great sport....
  16. The fella says he rang you 4 times and its now 6 months on. Doesn't seem like your bothered particularly, he booked with you not the guide. He shouldn't have to be chasing you should he ?.......I wouldn't be happy either
  17. Islandgun, well done on your last flight.....you are blessed to be able to go about your business in such an inspiring place...
  18. No!......but not far away!!.......used to go to Islay regularly shooting Mark pipers ground. Great numbers there but then found somewhere a little closer to home !
  19. Was on an island off the west coast last week. Annual jaunt up there and we rose the usual numbers., probably 100 over 3 days and we shot 17.....!!

    Duck Numbers

Give me an exciting duck flight over geese any day of the week. Just returned from the west coast of Scotland chasing woodcock but managed a couple of mornings after teal on the shore. My mate shot the mallard but I was lucky to get a single pink that came my way at first light. not only was it my first pink but the first one I had ever seen on this particular island......
