  1. I recently purchased a Springer pup, and spent the previous three months checking and researching the various relevant sites. I eventually paid £450 for a well bred bitch pup with a FTCh. Sire. Working Cockers appeared to be going for the big money, but I think that was more to do with their popularity for pet homes. Best of luck with your search.
  2. It seems to be a big ask. Ratting, digging dog, shooting and good with kids. There are plenty of well bred lines of black or red terriers that will do earth work, and fulfil the ratting role. Good Russell's are harder to find, and a good Border even rarer. You also want something good around kids, which maybe the most difficult. If you want something good with kids and knocking about on the shoot a Border probably comes the closest, although I would never fully trust any of them around kids.
  3. I have a 13 week old Springer bitch. I have searched the forums to find a recommended book/manual that would assist me, as a beginner, regarding the training of the chocolate eyed devil. I have been unable to find something to suit my needs. Any pointers as to what is current and informative would be very much appreciated.
  4. Do Elizabeth Duke have a website and accept PayPal ? I'd quite like a knighthood.
  5. There are as you say much better knives around, and I have a purchased some of them over the years at considerable expense. I also own a number of Opinels. They are ideal for the reasons given. If they dull in the field a few passes with a blade tech and they're razor sharp. I never go hunting without one, and not as bothered losing a £10 knife as opposed to one that costs £100. My favourite at the moment is the small penknife. There is no lock and a small blade which avoids any of those legal grey areas associated with lock knives. I am able to leg, open and gut a rabbit with it and I only paid 2 euros for it. 'J'aime les Opinels.'
  6. I was told by my G.P.that there are different Prostate cancers and the PSA will not reveal a particular form of cancer that is quite aggressive, so as part of my Wellman I had the examination. There are three main GPs at my surgery, my GP just happens to be 6'04" with hands like a farmer, but as has been said momentary discomfort for the reassurance that you are okay. Prostate cancer diagnosed early is manageable and not a killer. If you're in your 50s, or have family history get it done.
  7. In short you are not disqualified from driving, but you have no driving licence. Your motor insurance is void if you have not informed them, and as such you risk being disqualified by using a vehicle for those two offences alone.
  8. I know I'm being pedantic, but it's a ghillie's hat. A deerstalker has the two ear flaps that tie up on the top. I only know this because I wore one many years ago. A nice hat all the same, best of luck with the sale.
  9. What sort of weight can these seats withstand. I'm of 'just above' average weight by a few stone, and was wondering how robust the plastic is.
  10. What about £20 all in? Regards Geoff
  11. I'm only a newbie, but the issue at question 1, having researched it for my own purposes is that unless he holds a SGC he cannot shoot. This is changed if you are the landowner or tenant, you don't become the occupier because you have permission to shoot over the land. If you do contravene this you commit an offence under the firearms act.
  12. I don't believe that anyone as given in the examples that markyboy mentioned should ever be allowed an SGC. A propensity to violence is often inherent. They may be the nicest of people but there can often be a trigger which changes all of that. It could be alcohol, domestic situations or even a belligerent attitude that causes them to strike out with whatever may be to hand in that moment. I know it smacks of 'give a dog a bad name' but incidents in the U.K. involving lawfully held firearms are thankfully rare due to strict firearms legislation.
  13. Not wishing to make sweeping generalities about a nation, but there would appear to be a different attitude towards firearms and living targets when comparing the U.K. and U.S.A.
  14. You could, if you want to, go all out and confront, electrify the front of your house, dowse the offending dog in all sorts, but when the dust has settled and you're at war with 'the enemy' over the road remember this was just about a little bit of dog urine. As a further rider when neighbour disputes get out of hand and accusations, be they true, false or embellished, are brought to the attention of the Police don't you think that suitability for holding an FAC or SGC by one of the parties is more closely scrutinised. It's just a bit of dog ****, think carefully before taking any extreme measures. It's often easier looking from the outside in, just my advice.
  15. I don't believe you should lose sight of the problem. This is a small amount of urine on a very strong and persistent plant. If you focus too much on this it becomes the most important thing in your life. These are your neighbours, not people you have casual contact with occasionally, they live near to you and could do for many years. You've tried the nice approach, my advice is continue in this manner. If you fall out with them it could affect your quality of life greatly.
  16. I have kept racing pigeons in the past and had all of the colours previously mentioned, although the white ones do sound like escapees (feral) ornamental doves.
  17. I have similar concerns, I'm just under 19 stone in my silk thong, and a good deal heavier with my winter gear on. Has the whole stool been beefed up, ie. metal, fastenings and the material across the backrest? If so this could be the stool for me.
