Hi GUys, I have recently taken delivery of a new Browning X-Bolt in .243 and I'm looking to scope it up. Now before you all say 'spend all your money on the scope and buy the rifle with the change', that hasn't happened. I have been looking at the Nikko Stirling Targetmaster in 6-24X56 flavour and also the Hawke Optics Sidewinder in 6-24X56. Has anyone used either of these scopes, if so what are they like? I'll await, with interest, your replies and thoughts. Regards.

It would be great to see you guys, if you can make it. The ground is a couple of miles to the south of Carpenters Lodge roundabout on the A1 at Stamford. If heading north you need to take the turning before RAF Wittering which is signposted Wittering and follow the windy road for about 2.5 miles and the ground is on the left at the flagpoles. Hi Everyone, Shooting Lincs... are organizing a 50 bird sporting re-entry clay shoot at Grange Farm, Wittering, off the A1 at Stamford. The event is being run to raise funds for the Help for Heroes Charity to help our injured servicemen and women when they return from operational duty in the Gulf and to support their families. Hi Everyone, The BASC South Lincolnshire Committee are holding a clay shoot for BASC members at the Grange Farm Shooting Ground at Wittering, Nr Stamford on 22nd September. The event is a fun day intended as a warm up for the start of the season. The shoot will consist of teams of three taking part in a 40 bird sporting round and a 40 bird team flush. Hi FM, What your friend says is correct. We have access to this equipment because we work closely with the US Military but we have to jump through all sorts of hoops even when trying to assist them. These scopes are subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) as well as requiring special export licences approved by the US DoD, and End User Statements etc etc. rjimmer, I believe Exocets would be more suitable for wildfowling as they are a sea skimming missile I believe, you had better ask Bolta, he's the expert. Hi DM, I just saw your post regarding gundog events. Lintran in conjunction with the BASC Lincolnshire Committee are holding a gundog/handler training day at the Lintran facility in North Lincolnshire on May 15th. Unfortunately I haven't got any posters with me so I can't remember the cost but it's not much. The day is aimed at novices, juniors and new handlers, but everyone will find something useful. We will be having professional trainers in attendance to coach and advise as necessary. In addition there will be microchipping and tattooing facilities for the dogs. Food and drinks are available as well as a raffle and other fun things for the youngsters. The proceeds from the event will go to the Lincs Air Ambulance and another Charity who's name escapes me. Maybe if you got your head out of your **** and paid attention this wouldn't have got to where it is. I don't have to justify myself to you or anyone else. If you don't like what you read on here, go somewhere else. Maybe you could answer me a question, what do you do for a living and where do you come from and why haven't you completed your personal information, do you have something to hide? My conscience is clear, this is what I do for a living, I work in the defence industry and before that I served in the Royal Air Force for 31 years so I do have a handle on this type of equipment. Oh, and by the way, I am the Companies electro-optics sales manager. If there is anything else you would like to know, I suggest you ask someone else, because I am done explaining myself to you. Hi Guys, I'm going to end this now. Go to www.esldefence.co.uk click on EW Training Aids and you will see two pictures of a Mallina long range UV stimulator. The sight that is fitted to it is a red dot sight used for daytime use. This is usually fitted to the Laser Range Finder which bolts to the top of the Mallina so that automatic programme selection can be made by detecting range to the target. We are looking to replace this with the thermal image sight and have the output of the Mallina made covert so the light isn't visible. We have been trialling the sight and out of curiosity I fitted it to my Marlin rimfire to see what the effects would be on ground game. No this information is not classified and neither is our website, so go on, have a read and see what we do. If anyone wants information on red dot sights or laser range finders you can also ask, but I may not have the answers. Best regards Rimfire

He had been attending training classes and was going on to agility classes and we intended to breed from him to improve the breed as he was a dog that very closely matched the breed standard. Hi Guys, I have recently returned from business in the US to find that my dog had died. You may remember from previous posts that I had a Utonagan, whilst not a field dog I thought I would share this with you as it is a rare breed of dog and a dashing good looker. Apparently it slipped out of the garden unoticed by my wife last Wednesday morning when it befriened another dog. Unfortunately one of the local boy racers turned off the main road at high speed onto our country lane and hit him. Initially he seemed ok as he ran indoors and lay on his bed. My wife took him to the vets but he died later that afternoon. My sister-in-law phoned me to let me know and I completely lost it. I managed to get an earlier flight home to comfort my wife, who is also totally distraught. He was one of a kind and I miss him so much. I am now finding extra comfort in my springer, Flint. I am sure the pain will pass but right now I don't think so. Regards to all Rimfire

Hi Guys, Sorry for the delay in responding to Boltas last post but I have been in the US on business. The scope has gone back to the US Government after trials. The whole purpose of me bringing the matter up was in response to a post from a forum member who asked a question. I had an oportunity to answer it with some information on a relatively new product. Agreed it is expensive and not for general use. However, would you have known about the existance of an IR scope had it not been brought to your attention. This item and its information, after all, is available in the public domain. No, it is not classified and yes, it is available to users outside the USA. And yes it will do what my Company wants it to do and we intend to buy several of them to support our equipment. No it's not classified, and neither is what we produce. I had an opportunity to trial the equipment and I had it fitted to my Marlin rifle, not for part of the trial but out of personal curiosity as to whether it would be able to be used against ground game in a high IR background clutter environment. It may seem incredible to certain members of this forum, but it is my job and on rare occasions I do get to play with the odd exotic kit, also, some members may find it amazing but there are other countries around the world that manufacture and have access to specialist equipment other than the USA. It seems that I have upset someone by lying, or maybe exagerating claims to access to equipment. I will mention no names. Maybe people should have a more open opinion? Best regards to all Rimfire.

Hi Bolta, I take it from your knowledge of what can and can't be exported from the US that you are a USA citizen? The reason I have access to one is because I work for a List X company that has a need to evaluate this type of equipment for use in military hardware applications. Regards Rimfire

Hi Guys, I understand that this is a specialist item I was just pointing you to it for information. I have PM'd TG regarding this matter. I have one on loan as part of my job for evaluation purposes and it is brilliant. The down side is I have to give it back by the end of next week. For the record I can recommend it for night work. It is totally stealth and the image quality is superb but with a $12,000 price tag it ought to be. I will be sorry to see it go back but not half as grateful as the local bunny population! I agree with all that was said by Bolta about passive NV scopes. Regards to all Rimfire

Hi TG, I am not familiar with the NV rifle scopes but they work in the same principle as NV goggles, if used in daylight they burn out the PMT. The better option is an IR scope such as the ELCAN Specter IR. Hi Guys, Any right thinking person should be able to see through the latest ploy by the Government. They don't want the hunting ban to spoil their chances at the next election. However, the damage has already been done. If they think they have appeased the Countryside by delaying the ban, then they need to think again. Being used as a political football for Government gain will only increase the will of the Countryside to fight on. It is without any doubt that come the next election we have a duty to this great country of ours to have this dictator thrown out of power. Hi Guys, As promised, I said I would post the reply the BBC sent to me. I cant post it all as it was three pages long but the gist of it is that they carried out an investigation into my complaint and viewed the programme and interviewed the programme makers. The findings were that in the BBCs opinion the comments were the views of the individuals concerned. Now lets think about this for a moment!!!!!!!! If it had been a documentory, I could understand this comment, however, it wasn't, it was a drama programme that was written by or for the BBC, so how could it be the views of the individuals concerned, or am I missing something.
