  1. Like the idea of a semi auto for wildfowling, nearly got him one for his first gun but for teaching a beginner we went down the route of a break barrel and this 28 bore came at the right time. I've seen the hatsan 20 bore youth model Kent but do I dare ask are the opinions the same as it's bigger brother? Which model Winchester are you talking of? Your both right if we get him one steel would be the starting point.
  2. Thanks for the info guys but just wondering if having to buy stuff from the US and nice shot etc would be worth the time and expense when I don't know how many times we'd be going to the marsh
  3. Their 28g 6s brought down a few pheasants and their 28g 7.5s did a good job on the clays when I did my bit
  4. Meant to say looks like he may have to have an early promotion to a 20 bore! Not bad for a 9 year old
  5. Hi figgy the quarry will be ducks as my son has got in kings lynn wildfowlers so foreshore shooting on splashes over decoys so shooting distance will be as close sporting wise as possible. Was only thinking 5 shot due to it being a touch lighter than lead but 6 would be ideal for widgeon and teal. The biggest 65mm lead factory load I can find is express 21grams so might have to do what we've done before and buy some of them and replace the shot with bismuth. Cheers Motty I'll try them soon, the only reason I thought bismuth was because my sons gun is an old Belgian sxs but I'll have a look at itx Thanks for looking kent think my dad and me made a cock up not checking the chambers when we bought it as it certainly has limited cartridge choice in an already limited selection! We have some express 21grams seeker that are RTO's so they would be the choice for maximum amount of non toxic
  6. Evening all just wondering if anyone has a proven receipe for the above mentioned, my son's gun is only chambered for 65mm cartridges and the only factory shells I can find seem to be all 70mm. Was looking to buy some bismuth 5 shot and just wondered if anybody on here has any facts/figures etc. cheers
  7. You could always try honest john, great website
  8. I've used the rio's and got some good scores for my standard but have settled on compx 21's as they suit my good lady and I can't be bothered to buy a different shell!
  9. Must be a fast powder then as I know shooting steel clay loads the recoil is a bit sharper but like you I'm not very recoil sensitive, think the last cartridge that gave me a good punch was when I used some rc50s when I was 15
  10. Think I'll stick to the 10 bore for geese and got a load of bismuth to use through the 12 when duck is to be the main quarry. It would be interesting to see the recoil comparison between those new steel loads and some of my bismuth shells as some of them are 1 5/8 oz 6s! (Factory loads)
  11. I see your point figgy, but reading what you said about recoil I'd guess they're now closer to the stated speed.
  12. if the last total was 908 wouldn't that make it 924?
  13. Shot one last night with the huntman classic again Total 775

'As HB stated Pinks do funny things to some people eg get a Pink at any cost' this is true, my dad once witnessed a punch up on the marsh over a shot pink!

  16. Good shooting there and nice dog work as well
  17. Now then figgy come on your 50k H&H and £30k land cruiser are not classed as cheap tat
  18. I see your point, if I was out shooting with a £100k purdey I'm pretty certain I'd cry if it rained

Ok I appreciate you taking the time to reply and that things are confidential but surely you can understand how it must look regarding the charity rumour

  21. Oh Evo, you keep telling yourself your very very happy with the wolverine but you know it can't help with filling the void left by the huntsman
  22. I know what you mean, "we'll give it 10 minutes then that's it" repeated several times
