  1. I use a Pulsar XQ 50 i think its is and have another XP 50 on .270 for foxes It does cost a few quid to run it i suppose - but you dont miss really and what you spend in cartridges you more than save in food and to me more importantly the impact the rats have on the ground nesters It is a 12 - i found the .410 would sometimes not have the range i wanted or the penetration through some of the bramble and brash on my clear fell The only downside is its heavy - very heavy - and pumping it makes my arms and hands ache like hell - but it keeps me fit !
  2. Its ideal for anyone with multiple feeders - eg pheasant shoot You simply walk from one to another - shoot one or two straight away The others sit in the bramble watching - so you can shoot them - then move on It has allowed me to be so much more effective and time efficient As i say please please - follow the golden rule - dont shoot where you cant see - identify - and please be careful - as with a rifle - air or otherwise - shooting close up with ricochets
  3. Pleasure - Was just typing re shotgun and thermal I should have patented it !!! Dragon Den anyone ! Hahahaha Al the best
  4. Here you go Bobba Its a rail - with the mounts on it I just took everything to my gunshop and asked him to match it all up for me. I had been shooting rats with limited success with .22 but they scampered into the bramble or i got flash back if using the NV This is awesome and i have had circa 350 from around our feeders and beetle banks. if you do the same - may i just caution without teaching you to suck eggs - to make sure its a rat - Once you have seen a few its very easy - but at first its east to confuse with mice Also now we are in ground nesting bird season and their heads can look a bit ratty - through the thermal. I just wait until im sure of what it is and then bang - or leave them in the undergrowth until they move and its very easy to identify then Get it done and get them shot - people underestimate the damage they do to ground nesting birds - and how much food they take ! If you need anything else drop me a line I was using subsonic cartridges - hence the hushpower - but to be honest the rats only run for the nearest cover - but you can still see them - they don't overly worry about the bang so a semi=auto or usual gun could be used i'm sure. The odd one that goes to ground soon re-emerges anyway
  5. Keep going Scully - what i did was do the survey and then share my replies with my circle to make it easier for them to just get on and do it Only an idea Regards
  6. Hi Scully - yes but i also see the other side of it Our little shoot 7 years ago or so had 30 people in the circle - with events and clay days / bowling nights etc its now up to circa 125 with many of these now attending our shoot and several (10) ish having applied for shotgun certs this last year Our sport is far from dead - we just need to push it more
  7. If your mount is loose it will have a massive effect as you shoot and the recoil moves it or as you take aim and move the scope I have a thermal unit on a shotgun - for shooting rats This week the mounts came loose and the "zero" moved by circa 1 metre at 25 metres ! When i got home and looked at the unit it was almost free floating on the front mount
  8. Mod loose is always a go to Then 90 percent of the time - its loose mounts
  9. As stated on SD shared to my circle and told 30/40 ish have replied already
  10. The vehicle is covered by the consumer good act and up to 6 months from purchase it is deemed that the vehicle must be fit and proper when it was sold The burden of proof is on the seller to show that the vehicle was fit and well at point of sale - after 6 months it reverts the other way Google AA your legal right - its on their website and explains it well We are a van dealer and we take anything back without quibble really - if the AA warranty does not cover it Its not worth having your reputation ruined - hopefully your dealer will feel the same if an issue arises - which im sure it wont Just remember the dealer wont want it to break but machines do - always be fair and patient and most in the motor trade contrary to some popular belief will get things sorted
  11. This too was my concern - having been involved in planning applications - numbers never mattered as much as reasoning I do however have complete faith in Conor and an avalanche of responses will surely make NRW take note I did expand on my answers as i submitted almost immediately and i do wonder if the questions are made to simply make people feel baffled / under pressure and turn off ! This time - we wont !
  12. Yes Holloway - its sad really If people just engaged more - im a big believer in people can move mountains
  13. Many thanks Genghis - yes i was just trying to do as you say - maybe i was a bit light hearted about a serious issue My friend shoots clays 2 or 3 times a week - tens of thousands a year His opinion on whether the steel was effective - i dont think he missed one - was therefore very important to me As they say Gordon - a poor workman always blames his tools - this coupled with your decidedly poor attitude - well what more do i need to say.
  14. 1 dog fox tonight - just as it was going dark TOTAL 31
  15. You are so negative Sir That's pitiful Why not take the positive and go and have a go and stop being - well ---- you Regards and good day
  16. A couple of the lads did But no, mostly it was a separate couple of traps set up behind our simulated game day I suppose all i can say is the clay broke - result ? Our most experienced clay shooter - has all the gear and in fairness some idea Beretta DT 11 etc etc - proper shooting glasses - vest etc etc etc - bag for his cartridges etc etc was really impressed If you have an issue with this why not ask BASC where their next day is to try it or even if they will come out for the morning with yourself and a few of your companions ? @Conor O'Gorman
  17. We are not even in the BASC as i think i have said before - but i love this life and will happily engage with anyone of a similar mindset - and i have found many of these people now within BASC During Covid BASC came out and helped to ensure we were all safe I host several events for our shoot and BASC have always been supportive - the latest was a clay shoot this weekend. BASC attended spoke to a mildly sceptical audience about steel shot and then just sort of let us loose with several hundred cartridges and clays Most if not all believed the shot broke the clay as well as - if not better than lead. I admit clay and live quarry are worlds apart but BASC has asked if they can come on one of our shoot days and let us trial steel They are perhaps only as good as we are with them if that makes sense Give them a chance and reap the rewards of a stronger network would be my advice
  18. The things i found with the schemes is they are all a little self interested and not joined up The wild bird plot side did not like the meadow side - the meadow side did not like the woods - etc etc Because each was taking part of what they deemed was their part - rather than looking at creating a mosaic as one blends into another
