    Dyslexic

A very close friend of mine son had trouble at school when he was at junior school so his mother took him to get his eyes check they said nothing wrong with his sight he is dyslexic (someone with sense) and that got the ball rolling he is now at college and with luck will end up in engineering like his father. But the school never even questioned why he was had problems at that earley age.
  2. I believe it is 3/4 top and 1/4 bottom choke nice gun shame you so far from me would of looked at it if you were 50 miles from me not near on 500.
  3. I was always brought up with guns coming from the country side and my wife was the same as yours and the shotguns were always kept in a safe place then when the boys left school they wanted to try out clay pigeon shooting so she just as well let them do it when they where younger as I agree with all fellow members who state it better to teach gun safety from a young age respect not fear a gun and you will not end up with any accendents. Thats my thoughts on the subject for what its worth.
  4. In the 70's a game keeper asked me to pick up off cuts of grey gutter which had to be 4" wide so as to make decoys like the ones Frenchieboy posted. Never asked if it worked I gave him around 50 off cuts as I was more into shooting rabbits I never tried them.
  5. I use to use the plastic cases in the 70s as they were cheap and being an apprentice could not afford the likes of Eley and Remington out of my price range and being sold in 10s made easy for me to go out shooting. But as others say did they go bang or what and the muck left in barrels made it look like you been to war. My father would not use them in his AYA saying the shot was to hard the Russians throw any stuff in them but I had and still got a Russian single 12 bore had a barrel like a steel water pipe so in they went and did it give a kick or what. Still got one of the cartridges some where as I kept 1 of each as reference to what I have used over the years must be about 24/25 different brands of cartridges I have used in 30 years of shooting ( I bet most are Eleys with different outer case on) .
  6. Had this problem on a car once that the hazards worked but no indicators asked at dealership they said its your indicator switch so I took it off and tried it on another car worked ok. Then went to see old friend who trained as a mechanic then took over his fathers car assys shop he gave it some thought then asked me if the car had tow hitch to which I said yes it has, he threw me a new flasher relay saying try this, bet you got heavy duty relay and 2 bulbs not enough power flowing to make it work but under full load of hazard 4 bulbs it is, he was right so kept heavy duty relay for when I towed a trailer and the standard relay in normal use.
  7. As to the feathers we had a springer that would retrieve pheasants and rabbits no prob but pigeons he would but not happy as others have said its the loose breast feathers that come out so easy and he had a job the clear his mouth. Have you tried your springer with a rabbit to see if it is just the loose feather worth a try.
  8. Cheapest out back in the 70s if I remember right you could get them in boxes of 10
  9. Left school in 1972 started work at 15 1/2 apprentice electrician £6 a week gave mum £2 house keep 1/3 of wages and it stayed at that ratio until I left home many years later.
  10. Weymouth has stunning beach as well as the ones mentioned above.
  11. Is it messed up or need a good oiling as if it needs recoil to thow trigger over it may be very dry and sticking.
  12. My thoughts on this is that house properties have gone up way above the average wage increases showing that the size of deposit is out of most working class reach for many years. Being able to pay morgage is fine its just getting it is the hard bit. We (wife and myself) once we got our 1st place although we had washing machine (2nd hand) we never had carpets until we could afford them only had the basics (still have really). In my area once 1 large factory closed and the houses that they owned sold the prices went up over night making it more of a retirement area/sailing resort thus pushing locals out of area due to house prices and rent prices and lack of work.
  13. Make sure the rakers in front of the cutting teeth are not to high or else the rakers will be burning its way though inside of cutting those nice little wooden chips with the teeth.
  14. I have been told that slamming doors all the time gets them use to the noise but we had a springer the same and it took time reasuring the dog all the time theres a bang might pay to have some one else make noise while you make sure the dog not fright its self by talking all the time theres a bang good luck with it and dont get down it takes time.
  15. Perhaps they are flashers get alsorts here in the New Forest flashers and peeping toms etc no joke as they think they are funny or sexy not sure. Need to be taught a good lesson.
  16. Thanks for that what I didnt say was that after 2 years of great hunting with Nimbus (name of springer) he contracted the rat urine disease after spending loads of time with vet we only thought it fair to have put to sleep as the vet unable to save him. The poor animal was just passing blood. Turned out that 2 other dogs in the area died the same way vet said that a troop of rats passed though that was carring the horrible illness. Also vet told us that if we fell ill to get Doc to contact him in case it passed to us.
  17. Never had this problem when my father passed away as I had SGC and when he was retired I asked local police force that not that I wished it but would I be able to put my fathers guns on my cert before he passed away so as not to cause my mother any worries and they said no problem carry on and update your SGC which I did and when he passed away told them and they said no problem please return his SGC and will nip round later to check guns at your place. My sons are looking to have a go at clay pigeon shooting and I will do the same when I retire and then save agro of finding SGC holder to look after them etc. I am actully holding a 16 bore gun for a relation until they get there SGC if they refused I get another gun.
  18. If possible short out relay connection and then you should hear fuel pump run if so then pump ok, if there is a sencor at injectors that not sencing fuel hence pump not running. Just go by fault finding and eliminate what works then you might have some luck.
  19. Show love and you will get results
  20. We had a springer given to us from a retired keeper lovely dog he was only used to drive birds in for the shoot. My father took him on a vermin shoot at local farm and some doves came over and 10 guns fired the dog so frightened he run off every one said dogs gun shy never be any good etc but with in the closed season he lost gun shyness, hunt out any game and retrieve so it is possible even once they over year old. The 1st thing we learnt was to kick him out of car about a half mile from woods and make him run (down farm track) as if we let him out in the woods he went of at such a rate every thing flushed out before we ready. He even chased a roe deer buck christ knows what he done if he caught it. On one shoot my father shot a hare the dog brought it back by dragging it as it was as big as him. What a good gun dog they said the people that said he's gun shy never be any good. So good luck and show love and pamper when he does well and you will have a great dog.
  21. If you find somewhere and need help with cost bear me in mind as I might be up for rough shooting depending on cost of course. Also I have access to a battery operated clay trap as well.
  22. Keep my gun cab keys on me along with safe key(heavy 2" thick steel walls and 4" door) also ammo box key, spare safe key in ammo box and gun cab keys in safe, then spare ammo box key hidden in house. If you found ammo box key you still got to find it as thats tucked away as is the safe.
