  1. Just like to know if the Cumberland Rough Spaniels still around never see them for sell as we use to have one back in the 70s lovely little dog very hard all-round working dog not as large as a English but still a very nice working breed
  2. Mine is a RWS LR20 due to the fact I'm a leftie and my son's are right handed and it just takes seconds to convert bolt handle to either right or left handed.
  3. How about Nimbus which stands for cloud of glory
  4. Well made bit of kit look out for 2nd hand as it will save you some money (most FAC holders end up getting larger cabinet as they collect more rifles to play with)
  5. Had similar problem with Hampshire Police on 2 occasions. 1st being Shotgun certificate renewal 3 months after renewal date phoned them up asking if all ok as it was very late was told you are covered as we have your renewal in time and we have been short staffed due to illness. 2nd being FAC application had my interview with FEO all ok he was happy with everything then as I was going for dual cert FAC and Shotgun the officer said I need your shotgun cert as you getting a new one in 2 weeks, months later after phoning several times I stated I had been invited clay shooting and needed some cartridges and not got a cert, the answer was well you are covered as your old cert is live until we issue a new one and ask a friend who shoots to buy some cartridges for you. This just added fuel to the fire as I said that I phone and he said when and I then told him I was told that it was on there desk to process the following week this was a month before last phone call. Not a good service at all if I done this in my job I would be fired out the door.
  6. Nice looking pup. We once had a Cumberland Rough and he was a house dog that was until you picked up a gun then he went hyper to get out shooting, we use to kick him out of car once we got on farm land and let him chase car for half a mile or so just to calm him down or if you left it to where you was shooting he was off like a bull in a china shop flushing everything out before we was ready, best dog we ever had for flushing game, retrieving be it fur or feather. As all of this breed loved the water dirtier the better he had more baths than me after shooting smelly little blighter but what a worker if the hare was to big to carry he would drag it back to you.
  7. 10 bore muzzle loading percussion cap no marks or numbers. My late uncle found it in an attic in bits and remade trigger and some springs, use to shoot this and checked it by loading double charge of powder, string around trigger while behind straw bales and then fire. I have yet to fire it, It might be this weekend as my gun club doing history day and one section is shotguns though history.
  8. This happened with my late fathers Cumberland rough spaniel. At a vermin shoot a load of doves flew out of a barn and 12-15 12 bores let rip with both barrels dog ran of in fright as he had only dogged in before, but with lots of coaching and getting use to hearing a shot gun and associating it with hunting in the woods after many sessions of comforting after gun fired and its ok. When you picked up gun case he was 1st to door 1st in the motor and 1st out looking for prey. So the answer is yes but only with a lot of reassuring from you and be prepared for a long job it will take as long as it takes.
  9. Any accent that's non British
  10. Firstly I'm from Hampshire held a SGC for 40 years joined rifle club done probation period came full member still waited a bloody long time for FAC afraid Hampshire not fastest and as stated before renewals come first.
  11. Peter Sarony (Armalon) very clever person be it pistols or rifles. Has some great ideas for rifles from barrels to cocking actions for .223 rifles and a very friendly person to talk to and very knowledgable on design and what is needed for certain types of shooting.
  12. Six years old given a Diana .177 smooth bore air rifle, target shooting to start with using pellets and then darts (reusable). Ten years old given .22 webley falcon air rifle more accurate and longer range. Since the age of sixteen shotguns, crossbows you name I give it a go. Fifty plus and now shooting FAC using .22 rim fire and .303 and .308 centre fire. Still have every rifle used except the .177 Diana (given to a young relative) in total 4 air rifles, 7 shotguns and 3 FAC rifles and a very understanding wife that I always had and used rifles before we meet and until my youngest son was 18 never pushed rifles and guns on them (never used them for many years) but now both my sons belong to same rifle club as me and enjoy the sport as well.
  13. Totally agree with last comment. Just be polite and honest you will be fine.
  14. Glad to hear at least 2 members that have so far beaten the big C and wish my wife would come shooting targets with me, rim and centre fire as well as my 2 sons but alas she has a fear of rifles. If you attend a shoot you be surprised how many women shoot(very well most of them).
  15. Have a look at these https://www.bulletproofinsurance.co.uk/
  16. Started with air rifle when I was still at school and before leaving school was using shotguns then later on started rifle shooting have still got all rifles and shotguns I ever used bar 1st air rifle which was a smooth bore .177. So I am both.
  17. Lovely offer shame I am not in a position to put a offer in. As she would only be a pet as only range shooting at moment.
  18. always get bigger as I have a 5 & 7 gun cabinets and they are nearly full with out the pcp rifles in them
  19. Well I was looking for a P14 as my grandfather was to young for the 1st ww and to old for 2nd but was in home guard. But came across a No 5 mk1 and ended up buying it as my late uncle was in Malaysia during his national service in the late 40s/50s so possibly used a jungle carbine.
  20. I too have visited his stall at a game fair found him very helpful with regard to reloading and a very pleasant person to do businesses with. Highly recommend.
  21. I have had 2 visits 1st for interview and 2nd as I put larger gun cabinet (never seem to have enough room lol) on both visits offered tea and biccies both time turned down oh well at least I asked. Its the thought that counts.
