  1. Tollerman

    .22 Hornet

Nothing fancy but in good condition for occasional use against foxes prowling round pheasant pens.
  2. You might consider an AYA no.4 in sixteen bore . I've had one for a few years now and do most of my game shooting with it.Some people have a problem with double trigger sxs guns but in all honesty it soon becomes the norm.Strange as it may seem it's something I always wanted and will hopefully carry on using for as long as I'm able to shoot.
  3. We all know who's reasonable for most rural crime, stabbings in London and grooming but let's not mention which ethnic groups they come from .Pretending it's not happening won't make it go away.I'm not a supporter of Tommy Robinson but locking him up while TV reporters are outside courts commenting on various major trails almost every day seems totally out of order .
  4. Quality of service pure and simple.if you treat customers well they come back. One or two in my neck of the woods treat customers as if they are doing you a favour. In my early days I visited a Hertfordshire gun dealers .I explained I had just started shooting and was looking for a cheap first gun to be told " we don't do cheap guns".They closed down shortly afterwards.Eddoakley you seem to be doing a fine job.
  5. A well known Essex gun shop wanted £1300 a couple of years ago for the exact same gun in16 bore although they were selling 12 and 20 bore Versions for £900.I naturally declined their kind offer and took my business elsewhere .
  6. Anglesey wildfowling Club ( formally Red Wharf Bay Wildfowling Club.)They do have an Internet site.
  7. I'm sure guest workers ( seasonal fruit and veg pickers) exsisted before the Common market / EU .Remember the French onion sellers a common sight on the south coast .Don't think they had any trouble getting over here.If Europeans ( or indeed anyone else)wish to come over to the UK to work ,as long as they are essential ,I can't see a problem .However if they wish to settle that's another matter.Year by year the green spaces between our towns and cities are being eroded in order to house the growing population . If we don't do something soon to curtail immigration regardless of where they come from we will see a rapidly decreasing standard of life .The relentless building of new houses in my part of Essex is becoming a nightmare with land ,some of which I once shot over ,vanishing at a frightening rate. Having often driven across Northern Ireland to the northern counties of the Republic over the last forty years I certainly would hate to see a 'Hard Border' with the return of sandbagged check points and soldiers armed with machine guns manning them.Life has dramatically improved for all the people on both sides of the border and long may it continue.
  8. They have been talking about reforming the House of Lords for years and it's about time something was done .Have signed the petition in the hope of change.
  9. Baikal 544 sxs £49 from Mays of London in 1976. Currently using an AYA no.4 in 16 bore from most of my game shooting.Nice guns and never had a problem with double triggers.
  10. It's a PC world I'm afraid with common sense being as rare as hens teeth.
  11. Try Cambridgeshire Fieldsports assoc. They have pigeon shooting and a couple of washes for wildfowling.Very reasonable subs and BASC affiliated.
  12. I do hope that "strike an agreement " doesn't mean that there will be a charge but BASC will do a deal about how much!
  13. Living the 'Life of Riley' at the tax payers expense ? Its a hard life..
  14. Free played my local youth club many moons ago .Cost about five bob( 25p) to get in .Jethro Tull played the local blues club for the outrageous sum of ten bob.Attended the Lead Zeppelin reunion concert a few years ago and it cost me £145 .How times have changed .
  15. Apologies.Must be worth £76 plus postage or buyer collects.Plenty of reading on a cold winters evening.
  16. 76 Copies from April 2012 to July 2017.Fantastic read covers all aspects of field sports.Offers?
  17. Thanks Graham for the info.We currently run a similar set up and have done for many years. However an additional 400 hundred acres on a neighbouring farm has been offered to us and not wishing to offend the farmer wanted some idea of the going rate.Giad to hear that you get on so well with your farmer.
  18. I would imagine that whoever farms the estate would want rabbit numbers controlled. If you have a buzzard problem leaving a few dead rabbits out on the field could help to reduce the number of poults taken.
  19. Any one out there who may know the going rate for shooting rights in Essex.? I Know it varies according to the land with higher rates for plenty of woodland ,ponds etc but a rough idea would help.
  20. Had many happy years fowling with my Toller. Bold swimmer bred for North American winters very gentle kind dogs great with children.Helen has had many years experience with the breed and I'm sure will be able to advise you as to their suitability.I must say that I have never regretted getting mine but as she is coming up to twelve she is now taking it easy.
  21. Nearest clay shoot every other Sunday at Thornwood which is just outside Epping.Clays Clay Club at Eastwick ( also shooting Sunday's) or Essex Shooting Ground ( excellent set up ) at Fyfield nr. Ongar shooting Wednesday to Saturday.Best gun shop Eastern Sporting at Great Baddow M25 A12. Bit further out but well worth the extra few miles for their outstanding service.Nearest Gunsmiths Roding Armoury at Abridge or Mays of London Buckhurst Hill .
  22. Well Nemosear if you regularly view this forum you will know that the usual response to how do I get into pigeon shooting is "knock on a few doors".However in this crowded county of ours it's almost impossible as every inch of land is shot by someone. There are a few clubs about but sadly getting fewer as the years go by and farms change hands and the shooting rights sold off.You could try beating on a shoot and get to know the keeper as that often leads to a bit of pigeon shooting. If you live in the country try asking in the local village pub.We are lucky to have numerous wildfowling clubs in Essex and most ( Canvey, Colchester and Blackwater to name a few) offer good pigeon shooting. Its out there you just need to make the effort. Good luck.
  23. One way pop holes work well. The birds glide out of the from the trees where they roost but find their way back or are walked back by whoever is carrying out the daily check.Works well on our shoot.Sorry to hear you lost your birds .We lost a complete pen full a couple of years ago as did our neighbour.
  24. My own club The Gunners Pigeon Shooting Club ( based in Essex) was founded in 1954. One of the original members, now in his eighties and our president ,still shoots. In those early days you turned up at the local NFU office and were given a map and a chit. The chit was taken to the police station and exchanged for a slab of cartridgesand off you went. Not much chance of those days coming back but then we don't have the post war food shortages either.Anyone know of an older club?
