  1. I thought WD40 was a water dispersent and rust inhibitor ? I've already lined all the edges of my case in padding to stop this very issue. The first time I hit the stock on the side of the cabinet, I wept a few tears and couldn't bear to see if there was any dings - fortunately it was fine. The shop gave me Napier Gun Oil to use. But i've no real idea how much to use. A few sprays and leave it, or spray and then wipe off the drips... or even wipe everything to just leave a very very fine oil film. I've seen some people say not to even use oil, and use grease instead. So i'm at a loss. Too much conflicting information on the internet...
  2. Probably about the same. I hope to shoot one or twice a week but it no doubt will go for longer at times without being shot. But thanks for the advice everyone, top stuff. I like the barrels pointed down tip
  3. Thanks guys. I think i'll leave it as is for now then. So once i've fired my last cartridges, I literally just eject them, close the gun again and leave it as is until I come to use it again?
  4. Just picked up my first shotgun. Chose a brand new Browning 525 32" Sporter. Originally was going to get a 28" or 30" but the 32" demonstrated to me felt great in the hand and shoulder to me. I'm a pretty big guy so it seemed like a good fit. Anyway, I have a question or two: How do I store it ? I mean, so I dry fire it with nothing in? Do I put in some snap caps and then fire it? Or snap caps but don't fire it ? Forgive me for such a beginner question, but i'm really not sure what the best practice is. Any other tips on cleaning, maintaing it would be greatly appreciated! 5. Hello everyone. First post here. I have always been interested in shooting since a kid, but never considered getting a shotgun certificate because I thought it would be a difficult, laborious process. Well when I finally looked into it properly, it seemed pretty easy, and I had nothing to loose (Well, except the £50!). I had plenty of research on applying for a SGC, the best way to do it, things to say and not say during the visit.. etc. I had also read many, many stories of them taking months to arrive. So that is what I was expecting. I sent off my SGC application last week on Monday morning. To my surprise, 6:30pm Tuesday evening a call from my local FEO asking if he could pop round for a chat ! he turned up shortly after, genuinely great friendly broke who clearly liked his job and enjoyed the shooting scene. He said he would be returning to the office on Friday to hand in the forms he had filled out so they could proceed with my application. Well, to my utter disbelief, I got home yesterday and it had already arrived through the post ! Considering they would have only received my application on the Tuesday prior, thats a 6 day turnaround time. 2 of those days were a weekend.. and when you consider my FEO said the form would only be returned to the office on Friday, that makes it even more impressive. I couldn't be more impressed with their service. Top stuff. The only downside to all of this is, I was going to use those few months expected wait to save up for my first shotgun. So now I have a SGC with no money to buy the shotgun Anyway, sorry to rant on. Looks like an excellent hobby and I can't wait to get started. I've been searching for a hobby to enjoy for years, but I think this may be the hobby for me.
