  1. Nice one, thanks guys. All sounds fairly simple. I'd look after the gun 'as if it was mine' because technically/really it is at that point! I could then take it along to clay grounds for my friend to use and then I'd just take it home and lock it up til next time or until he has got his stuff together and signed off! Thanks all
  2. A hypothetical friend is waiting for his interview for sgl. But he's seen the perfect SG for sale 2nd hand. Would there be any issue with him paying the private seller and then me putting it on my ticket and in my cabinet until he's signed off? I know its a bit more paperwork than if he were to wait until he's signed off n then buy it himself but he doesn't want to miss this deal. Anyone see any issues with this plan? Thanks
  3. Hi everyone. Lots of sensible advice on this thread, I'm very impressed with the quality of this forum so far. Thanks everyone! Seems like the disadvantages of semi auto are: 1 Pickup empties 2 'Some' places won't let you shoot, but plenty will 3 It's rude to allow your empties to hit people, like in DTL shooting 4 May be difficult to load in gloves Advantages 1 Less weight 2 Less recoil 3 I like the design/it's what I think I want Hi Scot, can you tell me some more about your Maxus Carbon Fibre, that's the exact model which I'm currently considering my favourite (just based on internet research so far, I plan to see one later this week). Thanks.
  4. Hello, I'm looking for some shotgun buying advice. I've been shooting sporting clays for about a year now, once or twice a month, borrowing some of my friends' guns (Browning 525 and a Browning 725 both OU). I'd like to get my own shotgun now (license all sorted) and I'm looking about the £1k mark. I'm personally not someone who is too concerned about the grade of wood or engraving, and I actually like how some of the synthetic stock guns look. (Synergy for example, but that's over my budget.) So I'd want to get either a synthetic stock, or one of the lower grade woods. But my main first decision is whether to get a traditional OU like a Browning 525, or a 2+1 semi auto like Browning Maxus. Reasons for getting an OU: - Traditional - What most other people use - No problem shooting it anywhere Reasons for getting a semi auto: - Allegedly less recoil - Less weight (both good things for when my wife comes shooting with me) - Available with synthetic stock which I personally like the look of (appreciate this is a matter of taste!) So if we please leave aside the issue of wood vs. synthetic, because that's a personal preference and therefore subjective, and instead concentrate on the practicalities, why should I go for semi auto or overunder? Are there any restrictions on using semi automatic guns? (i.e. do some clay shoots ban them?) Are they easier/harder to shoot with? Are there other considerations I've not thought of? I've only used OU guns to date and not experienced shooting a semi automatic. Thanks for your comments.
  5. Thanks for the additional link. I might have missed it, bug I looked on that shop and also the manufacturer website and I didn't see either mention BS7558. So anyone planning to get one would need to check that first.
  6. Oooh good find! I didn't know of any brand besides buffalo river or sentry who were doing these and they were over £500ish as I recall. That digital sealey that meets BS7558 for £250 inc vat looks like a great option for me. Thanks very much for the link!
  7. Basically this. Regards the other points it sounds like my plan is fine. Good stuff!
  8. Yes but that's not the subject of this thread. Pm me if you need to know more. Cheers
  9. Yeah as I say it would be a bs7558 safe and will be properly anchored.
  10. Yeah I know a load of people follow that philosophy but I just dump my keys wherever when I'm home! Don't want to lose the when I'm out either! On the point of knowing my keys are in the safe by the cabinet; I don't expect that matters really as I'll get a BS7558 safe to put them in anyway! So if you break that then you may as well just break the cabinet! Lol!
  11. Hi. Newbie around here. Got sgl but no cabinet/gun yet. I fancied a sentry safe or buffalo river digital cabinet as I don't like the idea of having keys that can be copied lost or stolen. However they are VERY expensive and only the top (large) models have digital. So I'm considering getting a 'normal' key operated bratton sound and then keeping the key in a smaller digital ammo safe adjacent to the gun safe. Would this 'pass muster' with the feo and 'common sense'? I know some people have key cabinets or safes and just 'look after' their key. I don't want it on my keyring so will putting it in another 'bs' approved safe be sensible? Seems ok to me but wanted to put it to you guys too. Cheers
