  1. I can see that the chart shows 50% of the farms recorded have a net worth of £1.5m and over. What it does not show is what proportion of these farms might have to pay IHT. Owning a farm worth more than £m and being subject to IHT is not the same thing. Many farms will already be in a company structure. Not least to protect it from children.
  2. I have just been looking for the survey evidence for the decline of the bird to get it on the amber list but I cannot find it.
  3. I think most of us on here care deeply for the environment within which we live. Unfortunately as humans we struggle to control our consumption given the chance. How many of us can say I wont take that holiday, buy that car, get a bigger house etc if the money is available. We are programmed to want more and more it's in the dna. Ultimately we have to live within one world and must limit consumption accordingly. How we do that I have no idea. None of us vote for less. The most obvious way, I guess is we do nothing. We wait for the famine, the war or whatever it may be to moderate our excess.
  4. For a time I did consultancy identifying farm land for development and getting it into local plan boundaries. What does this show?
  5. This country is on it's knees following the last 14 years of mismanagement and the 2016 vote. Can labour make it worse, of course they can but they also have a slim chance to stop the rot.
  6. That's an interesting proposition. I think the vast majority of farm land close to settlement (readily developable will already be under option.
  7. Why? So that you can disagree? Tax produces a pot of money that is spent by Govt. The less you take from anywhere requires more to be taken from somewhere else. Rather than tell us what you don't agree with why not proffer an alternative.
  8. Why tax the working man further when there are many recycling wealth within families of privilege. Reinvesting some of that surplus for the benefit of all is how a civilised society should work for the benefit of all. The world is a poor place to live if some are billionaires live next to the starving.
  9. And mine too. I hate paying for the Royals, the NHS which needs a complete rethink. I would like to see the govt getting tough with tax on fuel, fast food, fags, booze, salt sugar and redirecting the cash into healthy life style choices.
  10. I can see why you would want to forget about Brexit. The single biggest act of self harm in history hangs over all of us. Unfortunately it's all pervading across the economy. You are confusing farms effected which according to the government are very few, with those that invest in land to avoid IHT, of which there are apparently enough to make it worthwhile. Change is often difficult for some to deal with.
  11. 😁 What does govt know about farming or indeed any other business? I guess we will see when the funding is taken up?
  12. No evidence of that. The biggest extraction of cash from farming was by those voting for Brexit removing the extensive subsidies. Labour is at least trying to redress some of this. Lets be honest shall we?
  13. I suggest any farm unable to keep up with legislation has to ask a question can they keep up with the business they are in. Farming is a great example of ever changing boundaries rules and markets. This Government is proposing to put more money into farming than ever. We are always taxed retrospectively. Its still closed loophole or not 🙂
  14. There are some farms caught up in this yes. Its only a very small number of farms and those that are should take advice. If the asset is in a company structure rather than a family structure no tax will be due.
  15. It's good to try and look after your offspring. There are ways to do that now and there will be going forward. No one is suggesting it is removed. The proposal is for a portion to be paid in tax. If the money is in the business rather than the ownership of individuals there will be no tax to pay.
  16. Whats 'they're' taken away? Riches? 🙂 IHT is drawing back some from the richest back to the state. Most believe money makes money. A fair society recognises that wealth of a few is built on the back of many. IHT is perhaps a way to ameliorate the worst excesses. What are?
  17. They are not being removed.
  18. Why? The last thing we want is an ever increasing gap between rich and poor.
  19. Who will die first Kadyrov or Putin? There are plenty of unhappy Oligarchs that would want him out the way. I think so. The Wild Berries dispute is a close run thing.
  20. @Conor O'Gorman Has BASC seen a case for centralising the whole firearms licencing process?
  21. It is in part because people are buying land for tax avoidance purposes that the cost of land is uneconomic for farming. Close that loophole and hopefully reduce the demand and price for land.
  22. How long does it run?
