I doubt it. All as it takes is a little time and more importantly team work (we just need to find one to join).

NATO now giving much more attention to China. China having war games on the Ukraine border. There is a systemic threat against the West. I don't wish for it far from it. With China and Russia attacking the West every day we have a choice put up or shut up. I have long said we should close China down. We just need to start turning off the tap.

As long as Putin continues the war we have choice but to defend ourselves. Partnering with the Taliban, killing people in Europe we are at war. There can be no peace, there is no option for the appeaser. War is expensive we did not ask for it. The Tories had the budget for prisons but could not spend it. They sat on the problem and let it fester. They further compounded the issue by increasing the backlog through the courts, increasing re offending rates and simply drifting into letting offenders onto the streets. If labour did absolutely nothing and just let prisoners go they would be no worse. Whatever they do they will make a difference its hard to see how it could be worse.

£3bn is not enough. It will end badly if Putin continues the war. Renewable energy is often the cheapest form of generation now. Onshore is considerably cheaper than off shore so prices should come down further. Lets wean ourselves off dependencies. Green belt policy has in many places accelerated the loss of previously undeveloped land. Most will want to see housing available at affordable prices for our children. What we need to ensure is that the standards of build are maintained. Offenders released early follows on from the 10000 already released by the Tories over the last year and the lack of prison building. The Tories have left much of the systems and services of this country on life support. It will take a long time to turn around the decline that we are currently facing. It looks like there is no option to the releases, lets hope that some mitigation through the probation services (also decimated) can be put in place. Unless the prison and probation services are working we cannot expect improvements in law and order. Currently investment in legal services (also decimated) to speed up processing of offenders will simply further over burden the prison service.

Many of the larger places now have chosen to turn them off. It saves a fortune and no impact on street crime or road accidents so long as strategic thoroughfares are protected. For Milton Keynes we had a week of debate on the subject before switching them off followed by monitoring.

I have not got one, in part because the earlier ones are not so smart and until recently these tariff options were not generally available. I would be sorely tempted now, if I lived at home but I know i would become obsessed with the numbers. 😊 The power wall would already be on order. As it is I generate most of my own power when living off grid using solar pv. Sad but nothing more exciting than returning home to see x generated for the day 🤣

A good start then. Far more than the last 6 have done.

Neither do i. Analogy or not. The Lords promotes fear and favour and perpetuates the 'old school'. If Starmer can chop some then all power to him. You don't eat an elephant in one bite.
-
This ^^^ it follows the same logic. It's far easier to restrict minority interests than those of the wider public. Soon we will be eating steak with a spoon.

The Pulsar kit is awesome. Very robust and meant to last. They are made in Europe so not supporting China.

Attempted suicide by crossbow?

The Lords are appointed for fear and favour. It has no place in a democracy. Oversight from a fear and favour commission is not oversight. The system perpetuates the class divide, supports institutional racism, promotes privilege and encourages a disenfranchisement. It's the Athenaeum club in action. Exactly the same with the monarchy, the military and the church. These relics of the past are holding us back. There is simply no reason why a constitution cannot set out parameters of operation. I take your point that they cannot be cast in stone and will need to adapt but processes can be put in place to allow this. Devolution is a mess because it's a half started project that needs to be completed. Nothing wrong with the principle just poor execution. We have not defined the Kingdom its role and purpose or the Nations within it. It's in the too hard to do box. Maybe that's a good reason not to have started it in the first place.
-
Don't get me wrong I think the whole system should be ripped up and started again. It's simply not right that we pay for someone to be given a position of privilege. Pay for them to interfere in our democracy with no appointment process, no moderation, no evaluation. The constitution could set out economic parameters. All policy with economic assessment. The Lords is a starting point with hundreds of tory placements (could have been labour) is just wrong. We have to look at devoloution too. It should not just be for the three nations. The balance of MP's the distribution of resources. The lack of a UK strategy for growth, for energy. The involvement of the church. Labour are proposing some significant changes but in the grand scheme of things its small.
-
Ah that explains it. The more the demand or should that be supply (🤣) projected the greater the project makes sense. Surprised its only 80m. I have my own digester but it's designed for 10 just in case 🤣
-
🤣🤣🤣 80m is that the number of loos, uses per day, volume of effluent? Ask him for the calcs we would all be interested.
-
Size. It currently costs £104m and continually growing. Its a saving that could be made. It is also an unelected institution that promotes unfair patronage, privilege and influence. It's experience is biased and unrepresentative. A written constitution would set out the basic rules by which government governs. It would increase the checks and balances of power.

I agree the question is how big do we want it. Only the Chinese have a larger second chamber. If ot happens I agree. The Lords has been able to resist change to date. This looks to be an easier start. Good that they are making an effort where others fear to tred. If starmer inputted 200 centre ground politicians I doubt it would change the current balance. He needs to clear out the religious contingent. It would be a dram come true. Get rid of them, the monarchy, the church connections and draw up a constitution. For now we will have to settle for a small step change. 🤞
-
Good move by Starmer to have an upper age limit for the Lords. At age 80 that should get rid of around 150. It's a good start but he should go further and chop them at 70.
-
I dont know how they will do it but we certainly need it. No point being in a hole and still digging. Pet pass ports 😁 I don't need one for my dog, it's only here that we have restrictions.
-
Its certainly very accurate now. The issue we have is trying to understand what is likely to happen on the edges of systems. We use UKMO models on predict wind and Metcheck for forecast. Two weeks ago we went from Jersey to Sark and anchored. Only to find the wind shifting 90 deg overnight. Instead of being in shelter we were being blown on shore. Little sleep for the night and in the morning could not take dog ashore. Had to run to Guernsey. The South west Coast is currently on the edge of low and high pressure systems and very unpredictable.

The same thoughts. For me the best scene was the battle in the forest at the start. "Unleash hell". Awesome.

So many say the same and expect a new name to change it all. Like Brexit voting anti establishment in the hope fortunes will change. We need a new electoral process not new hope and prey parties.

On its own it would not do much. As part of a programme it would do more. All part of exposing the anonymous.
