  1. Cheers for the replies (sorry if I hijacked thread!). I can't really guarantee I'm aiming the same place every time. Everything moves from pulling the trigger through to pulling trigger again. I just try and have the cross over the centre of the target... But, I'm not shooting comps just pest control so aslong as I'm consistently hitting where I want to be it's all I'm interested in.
  2. South West Scotland seems very bare of bunnies. 12yr ago when I got my rifle I could take 30-40 rabbits every night I went out. I won't have shot 100 rabbits in the last 5 years!!. I have a HMR and .22 and fear losing the rifles through lack of use - have been informed the police don't like us having rifles and not using them.
  3. I see folks saying the likes of that quite a bit. How do you have the rifle when you do it? Held firm on a bench? I am by no way having a go, but I'm genuinely curious (and bloody envious!!) of such shooting. When I zero my rifles they are on my Harris bipod. I'm either stood with rifle on Defender bonnet, or sat with rifle on the ground (bipod is the largest telescopic Harris do). Best I can get @ 100yds is to group about 2.5-3 inches, so about a rabbits head. I know the rifle (CZ452 Varmint in HMR) can do better, but I can not... not that I'm really fussed - I know I will hit and kill at the range... I'd be happy with the grouping in the 2nd pic - I'd just be hoping to move it to the centre.
  4. Looking to get back into ferreting after 10+ years away. Im starting from scratch though... wanting 2-3 ferrets, adult or kits. Preferably hobs (for now). I always liked my Polecats but would consider anything - especially EU ones. Also after kit - hutch, finders, nets etc anyone is looking to offload. Will travel anywhere within an hour-ish of Dumfries
  5. Hi, sorry - I didn't see your last post! But yes, not what I was after. But thank you for the offer. I ordered up a Hawke 3-9x40 on Tuesday, should come tomorrow or Saturday.
  6. No problem. I'm still undecided what I'm going for, but I'll have another look at the Hawkes - I do like the one I have on my HMR.
  7. I presume you mean the Nikko and not the Bushnell? The Bushnell i have is 12yr old and has had a fair bit of use (and abuse)... to buy another the same is £200 today. Just can't stretch to that sadly. The equivalent Hawke is £75, or £52 for the Nikko Stirling
  8. What scope did you go for in the end? The Bushnell (3-9x40) on my .22 isn't keeping zero too well, sadly. Have seen a Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40 or the x50, both for not much more than £50. Anyone got a verdict on them compared to equivalent Hawke which is £20-£30 more?
  9. Bobby basic lambs foot knife for £6 with a proper Sheffield Steel blade. Can't be beaten.
  10. That's good. I'm glad to have been able to help and I hope you get lots of use from them.
  11. I hope they do you well. You won't go wrong at that price, though. I've had a look around and I believe Hawke must have stopped making/selling those Bino's as they used to be easy to find online and now are not.
  12. I've a pair of Hawke 12x25. I think they cost me the grand price of £20. Good compact bino's which live in my smock chest pocket, and I care little if they get knocked/damaged, I'll just buy another pair...
  13. Clarity is good in the daylight. But turn the mag up at dusk it can be poor due to low light, and same in the dark. I don't think that's the scopes fault, though? I've never noticed any issues with eye relief at any mag on it. But if you do turn it up high you do need to twist the AO, depending on distances or it won't focus and you'll think your eyes are playing up! Overall it's a good scope and I'm happy with it.
  14. I've a Hawke (can't remember model - could be a Vantage?) 6-24x50ir on my HMR. It's a good scope. But on rabbits I never go above 10x mag on it - even at 100+yds... different story when on crows though - which is why I wanted bigger mag in the first place. My only slightly gripe is that the scope is HUGE compared to my Bushnell 3-9x40 on my .22 - but I guess that is to be expected.
  15. Have you tried finding a silver or dark grey car in a massive car park ? I had 3 red cars on the bounce - my first 3 cars infact - between 2001-2006. I never had any issues of too many going about. Personal favourite was the deep met. burgundy of the Peugeot 306. Saw one the other week, still looks good today!
  16. Another vote for a Rav4. I have a '55' plate which is the last of the older shape before the new model came out for '06'. Simply, it is brilliant. 40-ish mpg VERY comfortable and very reliable. It handles and drives really nice on road. It's just on road tyres but handles snow with no worries and I've never struggled going up farm tracks or across soft fields (I'm a farmer by day so have used it from time to time for taking tools out, aswell as lamping).
  17. I have a Hawke on my HMR and a Bushnell on my .22 The Hawke is a bigger scope - 6-24x50 with 30mm body. The Bushnell is 3-9x40 on 1"... So, it isn't a straight comparison but the Bushnell is a better scope, IMO. I can't fault the Hawke and am happy with it, but if I had to recommend one it'd be the Bushnell.
  18. Shooting rabbits out to 100 or so yds (sorry, I don't do metric), both my .22 and HMR are set around 9x and they never get changed.
  19. Mine is zero'd at 100yds... I've always just point and shot, don't give range/distance any consideration really.
  20. I did have a memory card in it, the one out of my old phone. But for some reason the phone didn't like the card so I removed it. 2 months on and no problems. This is why I asked, incase I should expect issues. You need the pin code as 'back up' security yes. I pretty much use it all the time and have given up with the fingerprint. All in all its a good phone and I'm very happy with it ?
  21. How old is the phone in question? I have a Moto G5, got it in February. 16gb memory (huge step up from my old G3 which had 8gb). Lots of pictures, videos, downloads and apps installed with no issues. I have no SD card fitted either. The G3 coped (with an SD card), but I had to be smart with how I used it... G5 does all effortless. My only gripe is the fingerprint recognition. Too much manual labour with my hands means it doesn't work well.
  22. I keep a Hawke 12x25 in my smock chest pocket for work (shepherd) checking ewes out on the hill. They are perfect size - sit in the palm of my hand - and weight for carrying around every day. Very cheap, too - £15 or £20, I think. Had them 3-4 years and no problems.
  23. My HMR is a Varmint, so heavy barrel. I've thought nothing of it for 10years - walking 100acre a night on rabbits. I then bought a .22lr a year ago which is very lightweight. Yep, OK I see the difference now... but I still love my 452. As for Moderators... SAK does all IMO. I use an ASE Utra which is very good - but it's heavier and very fiddly to clean. I've shot it side by side with a SAK and noise reports are very similar (can't tell apart).
  24. Rebadged what, exactly?! Stihl saws are 100% Stihl saws, the smaller 'homeowner' saws are very plastic, but they are still Stihls. They pride themselves on making everything in house - saws, bars and chains!
