  4. there is a set clump of wheat field that is always a hot spot just behind our house. after seeing it cut last week me and my cousin were on it as soon as we could. a quick reccy the night before reveald that within the couple of days it had been cultivated and so it as do we or dont we on that field. after continuing the reccy there was another wheat stubble field a short way away that hadn't been cultivated yet and so we decided upon this field for the next morning, although it turns out the selected field had never been shot before as the farmer could remember. onto the next day and my cousin set up as I had to pop to work for a couple hours and met him there. he set up at 10 and I got there at 12, which by then he had shot about 35 blackies and 15 pigeons. after a very steady flow throughout the day we ended up with picking up 114birds compromising of 67pigeons and 47 blackies. 2 happy shooters although we are still wondering if the pigeons would have decoyed onto the cultivated field that is always a hotspot??
  5. sorry to sound daft, which 3 valleys is this? one in sturminster newton/dorset area, one in northleigh/devon or the shoot in south wales?
  6. this year A friend of mine has taken over a syndicate he shot on for 20years. all the guns paid what was asked and money was gathered a few weeks before the birds came. Since the birds have come they have been dying about 200 so far which on a shoot of 1200 is a decent chunk. took the birds to the vet and as we guessed it was hexi. Straight away they syndicate owner kept on at the breeder who also provided his own vet after the first complaint and it is fairly clear its not the breeders fault. Turns out they ran out of pellet on the shoot so just came straight off pellet and onto corn/wheat no gentle switchover. What bothers me abit is the fact that as they have bought some more birds to make up for the loss so far and forthcoming losses, but the syndicate owner/keeper has now said it is now going to cost all the guns more money. is this common practise or he being abit cheeky as its his fault they have the disease??

  11. Well i am feeling very chuffed with myself. I always shoot with my younger cousin for the passed couple of years and getting the permissions has never been over easy. I recently plucked up the nerve to actually ask a farmer whos standing wheat had a few floating around and dropping in on, his reply.....bloody crack on boy.RESULT!! Have been there twice now over a few weeks for a couple bags of 40 for a few hours which keeps me happy and the farmer from the sounds of it. I dropped him a phone call as i agreed i would before going and when leaving, for him to tell me he is cutting his barley tonigt and would i like to go out there and shoot it ober the weekend....YES PLEASE. It seems that being polite and not to forward about where on hisnland i can shoot is paying off 😊

  13. All, Just got a new perm on some wheat this morning and have been out to reccy the field. I have seen it on tuesday being hit so i know they are there. Watched the birds about today but there seems to be a few flight lines across the field from all sorts of directions. Any suggestions on how to attract them to the flightline i plan on setting up near?
