  1. I have a small flock of pigeons hitting one field in the late afternoon. Unfortunately it is the one field I will not shoot on because it’s next to horses. I was wondering if it was worth putting flags up in the hope they would go to another field where I can shoot. Any suggestions?
  2. Well done on the blackies. But hiring a skip for a hide is a bit over the top.
  3. I worked for over 30 years making and repairing parts for military aircraft, tanks and subs. It paid for me to bring up a family, buy a house, cars, and enjoy a sporting and social life. I now live on the on the pension that work provided. Every one benefited from me the tax man and all the way down to the people who supplied pens and paper. So in my book these things are a good thing.
  4. Terry you done well to spite not having decoys out. there is nothing about in my part of Hertfordshire, when out today drove around my perms and did not even take the gun out of the car it was that bad and has been for the past month. I find those cartridges in 29g 6's quite good and as you say soft on the shoulder.
  5. When I got my FAC renewed back in January I asked for it to be open. But mine has the same as above but also has "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of the police" So what dose that make mine Open or Closed?
  6. I went online to renew my BASC membership and notest that the https in my google chrome search bar had a red line through in. Is this still safe to use when paying my renewal?
  7. Peas are showing, but no pigeons, and on the rape fields they dont want to be decoyed. I think my best days last year were on bean stubble.
  8. The farmers that I have called on have all said that they already have enough people shooting. I reply by saying that I only want to shoot on a weekday and live to weekends for those that work. This way I have talked 3 into letting me shoot and another in the pipeline. Tell them that you have insurance, and as Cranfield said, find some field where the pigeons are feeding and get your foot in the door before asking for too much.
  9. I dont think the skin counts
  10. I just wondered what times of the day the pigeons are going out to feed, and what's the best time to set up? I have not been shooting for the past 8 weeks and the last 5 weeks I've been out of the country. On the way home from the airport I see that a lot of drilling had taken place but the pigeons were still over the rape fields.
  11. Just wondering if this is the barrow you are referring to? http://www.wheelbarrows.co.uk/foldable-festival-canvas-wheelbarrow.html?gclid=CJjEtr28tsQCFSYYwwodvF4A6g John
  12. Lots of it on fleebay, just type in aluminium bar. Not sure about those sizes.
  13. I saw a program on TV where a bloke was recycling old cartridges from clay grounds. You could hear live cartridges going off that were mixed in with the dead ones. So why not take them to your clay ground and dump them in the bin there.
  14. I have a camo tarp. Do you think that by put it out on top of the snow and placed decoys on top it would full the pigeons?
  15. Delivered my forms by hand into the police station on the 16th Dec 2014 and got my new Certificates back on the 9th Jan 2015. 24 days that has got to be some kind of a record when you consider Christmas and New Year came in that period.
  16. The company I worked for organised an open day. So I invited a few friends and family to see what I did for a living. When we got there my boss showed us round and while passing a photo copier with piles of paper by it, my 8 year old son says in a loud voice “Daddy is that where you get all the paper I use for my drawing and paper planes”. With a red face in front of my boss,I did some quick thinking and replied “no son it all comes out of the rubbish bins”
  17. Well done. When I was in my teens (back in the 1960's) I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch Jack Hargreaves out of town program. I can still remember one about him shooting squirrels with a 20g running through the treetops. It was about 3 or 4 years later before I got my first shotgun and could try shooting squirrels like he did, with not much luck I might add. A gun licence them days was 10 old shillings (50p todays money) over the counter at the post office.
  18. You could try use system Restore to an earlier date. Click Start. All programs, Accessories, System Tools.
  19. That particular field of 80 acres I shoot once a week, and another field of 150 acres I shoot twice a week. How long do to suggest I give them between visits?
  20. Well done Belly47 I have just put in for my licence renewal. I took it the police station and personally handed it over to the FEO. He questioned me there and then. I asked him if he could make it open and he said it depends on how much I intend to use my gun. I put my foot in it a bit, because I told him I had not used it in the past year. I had to back track and tell him that I looking for more land to shoot over and intended using it a lot more. My licence shows that I have acquired 1100 rounds of ammo. My average over the 4 year usage works out at 275 per year or 23 per month. I just hope that’s enough usage to convince him into letting me have my licence open.
  21. Good work everybody. If this story hits the main news will shooter feel a backlash from Tommy Woodward anti-hunt mob?
  22. I only managed 2 from 3 shots yesterday. An “L” shaped field of rape with 2 gas canons that go off every 30 to 40 minutes. Pigeons were feeding 100yds from one of the canons so set up there, and flagged off a good part of the field. I only got 3 shots in before they move to within 50yds of the other gas canon. I have tried this field a few times with the same results. As soon as I set up they move elsewhere. They all seem to move as one flock coming and going, and by 2pm they have all disappeared. I don’t know what else I can do. The only reason I keep going back there is to show willing and keep in with the farmer.
  23. Make youngsters that break the law do national service. The fear of being sent to fight might make then change their minds about crime.
  24. They do have to be careful what the use on the bowling greens, because some people lick their fingers when playing.
