  1. My local RFD recommended the only ones he had in stock. The other RFD I went to recommended the most expensive.
  2. I think you should contact BASC, if you're a member, and/or trading standards. Put in writing to the RFD what you requested. If what you say is true then what they have done is unlawful.
  3. I don't understand. If you say it wasn't over 12ftlbs, why did they confiscate it?
  4. These eyes were white. Difficult to tell how high they were as couldn't really see the ground. One of my dogs has bright white eyes, the other has bright orange (in torchlight) - it's one way I identify them at night, the other is the way they move. I don't know enough about fox (or cat/badger etc.) behaviour to use that to my advantage.
  5. Drifting away from the original topic, I find it bizarre that if my air rifle was found to be over 12ft-lbs it would not be legal for me to continue owning it*, despite the fact I own (legally) a .22LR and a .223 - it's probably a discussion that's been had before but it would be nice if a FAC gave you up to a muzzle energy limit, enabling you to buy anything below that - I'm sure there are some gotchas in there * without a variation on my FAC
  6. I was thinking that a rabbit's head was about the size of my group, as I think we've established, if I'd really thought that was good enough, I wouldn't have asked the question. Regarding the ammunition, I didn't know you could take it back again and at the time didn't know if if was me, the rifle or the ammunition to blame. I think you might be right about the seller but subsequent groups with different ammo show that I got a cracking deal I shall, thank you!
  7. It seems I enjoy fishing too It's stopped raining for a bit, I can get on with something more constructive now Can I shoot cats from over the road?
  8. Believe me. I'm not going to shoot unless I can positively identify the quarry but I read of people shooting foxes at night over long distances. Perhaps I would have seen more through a scope. I'm guessing this isn't the kind of thing that people would admit to even if they had?
  9. Went out on my permission tonight, without a gun, to see if the advice I'd be offered by a friend of where to go was sound. As soon as I switched my torch on, three rabbits bolted for cover, right in front of a good back stop. I then moved over the field towards another boundary and shone the torch along the hedgerow. After a bit of squeaking, I suddenly had two eyes trained on me, shining white in the torchlight (no filter). I squeaked a bit more but they vanished. What are the tell tale signs of a fox rather than a cat? Have you ever shot a cat by accident?
  10. I presume this is the one... couldn't find it on their site but it's certainly a large pile!
  11. Perhaps I'll have to get you over for the next round of the Sussex Rimfire Challenge?
  12. Haven't tried them - going to try RWS as that's all my local RFD is getting in. If they don't work then I'll go further afield to someone with a bigger stock
  13. Bit spooky walking down quiet, narrow lanes in the dark to get to the pub - I'll take the rifle next time
  14. Drank my prize this evening - pint of Harveys - went down a treat!
  15. It was a feeble attempt at a joke & a dig at Sussex police who wouldn't give me a .243 ok initial. Maybe if I had a bit more land than I have they might have reconsidered. Quite jealous!
  16. You must be wrong, you can't get a .243 on an initial application, ask Sussex... :( Congratulations, nonetheless, I know someone selling a tidy Tikka T3 combo if you're interested.
  17. A buddy bottle PCP, Theoben Rapid or similar is what I'd go for, perhaps in .177 or .20 for pigeon
  18. It was a little brusque but I hope he'll be pleased to know that I haven't shot the .223 yet and don't intend to until I'm happy with the .22LR. The fact that was getting sub 1-inch groups at 50 yards with a change in ammo shows that both me and the rifle are capable of good accuracy, albeit from a prone position. Once my new stock of subs arrives, I'll get the scope properly dialled in and start practicing from standing. Going to place some targets out in the fields to practice on - possibly apples on sticks I won't be going out on my own to begin with anyway as want someone there to help me prep a rabbit, should I kill one.
  19. My RFD is getting some in, he took back the 300 CCI but I've got about 60 to waste, plus the Eley and remaining Winchester. Oddly, the Winchester were grouping high yesterday when I shot, but my friend was grouping low with them (through my rifle). The other brands were more or less on bull
  20. I got best results with Winchester SuperX, not bad with Eley but the CCI are still dismal. Going to trade in what's left for Winchester, although it's been recommended I try RWS.
  21. So no point killing a fox as another one will move in, but removing a live fox prevents another one moving in how, exactly? I'm sure there are some delighted farmers who love to rehome all these displaced foxes, who are probably able to switch to living in the wild without any problems...
