  1. I've been aware of it for 20 years and the MK60 I had at the time had both pins pitted although not to the point of failing to fire. In America it's believed by many that it's caused by hard primers. Obviously imported ones such as Cheddite as they'd never blame US made primers! Even if it is a primer issue, it still doesn't explain why it never happens on Berettas or Guerinis.
  2. I don't doubt there are exceptions but pitted firing pins are an ongoing problem with the Miroku/Browning action that they've never fixed and I'd advise keeping a spare set of pins. The chances of a lifespan of 40 or 50K rounds are pretty slim.
  3. Okay, but I reffed at registered sporting shoots for 12 years and witnessed fail to fire many times. Other than the occasional dud shell, almost all of them were with a Browning or Miroku and usually a light strike on the bottom barrel. Maybe twice I saw it happen with a Krieghoff but to the best of my recollection, never on any Italian guns.
  4. Browning/Miroku firing pins always suffer with erosion through pitting. The point at which bottom barrel misfires start varies enormously. I knew of one that needed new pins at less than 1,000 rounds and I've heard of others going past 30,000. No one seems to know why it always happens on Miroku built guns and almost never happens with other makes. My CG is 11 years old and the pins are as good as new as are those on my 1976 Aramberri - and I've never had a fail to fire with either gun.
  5. He wrote a book naming one Aaron Kosminski on the basis of traces of partial DNA found on a shawl worn by murder victim Catherine Eddowes. His logic was pretty shaky since the shawl had been taken away by the police and handled by many people. Kosminski might have handled the shawl at some point or the police who questioned him several times could have contaminated the shawl with his DNA.
  6. I Rizzini (FAIR) is an independent company but it's only one of several makers with near identical names. E. Rizzini was around for years but now taken over by Fausti, Then there's the Rizzini Brothers who make high end bespoke guns in tiny numbers. For most buyers, B. Rizzini are a step up from FAIR but then they cost quite a lot more. Most if not all FAIR guns are sold under other brand names such as Lincoln. It may well be that there are family ties between all the different Rizzini makers and possibly other Italian gun makers in the Brescia region. The Guerini brothers for example are nephews of Batista Rizzini (B. Rizzini) and learned their trade working for him.
  7. We have hedgehogs around and theirs is usually about an inch long and very dark, almost black. The local young foxes also leave very dark droppings, but I'd still reckon a fox is the best bet.
  8. The royals usually retain their rank in honorary capacity after leaving the armed forces. I believe Harry was stripped of that privilege, but as a father myself I'd guess that in this case Charles is trying to pour oil on troubled waters. No one wants to be at loggerheads with their own son.
  9. So which gun is it? As gunman says, US choke sizes are different, especially those tighter than 1/2 (M). I have measured the chokes on my Guerini and the Full is 30 thou which in UK terms is 3/4, and the 3/4 choke (IM) measures 25 thou which we would regard as 5/8.
  10. Nothing new about that. Back in 1972 when immigration from the Indian sub continent was ramping up in earnest, doctors started to find themselves confronting TB, something many of them had never seen before as it had been eradicated in this country. And of course it's still around to this day!
  11. Why do you keep calling them refugees? Maybe 1 in 50 is but the majority are just economic migrants pretending to be refugees. When Germany threw open it's border to the million or so "refugees" and the locals turned out with banners and cakes to welcome them to safety, it turned out that 24 of the first busload were from Pakistan. Help me out here, is |Pakistan at war with anyone? Is it not a democracy? Why would anyone from Pakistan qualify for asylum?
  12. Best of all is proper hedgehog food from some pet shops or garden centres and probably on line, but don't give them much as they need lots of protein and fats from snails etc. too, particularly by next month as they have to fatten up for hibernation. They also need access to drinking water and ideally a sheltered rough area in the garden to rest up. They really shouldn't be out in daylight either and if they are it implies a problem or disturbance of some kind. It's recommended that they have a way in and out of the garden as they do a lot of roaming and tend to have several dens in the area to sleep.
  13. I agree. Definitely a candidate for post of the year!👏👏
  14. People smugglers have several methods of ensuring they get paid. From gangmasters (slavery) to threatening indebted families back in the country the migrants left. One way or another it's almost always a version of extortion operated by organised criminals. There is a softer level too where the Indian restaurants traffic in chefs from Bangladesh to cook our favourite takeaway food.
  15. I'd advise checking and double checking for fit. I find them low at the comb and can't shoot them very well as I like my line of sight above the rib. Also, IIRC, the ejectors seem to be a bit more prone to breakage than guns of similar vintage like Mirokus. But at £395... Can't go far wrong.
  16. That's stating the obvious as if it's an original idea just like Yvette Cooper announcing that the way to tackle the problem is to hit the traffickers. Wow Yvette! You're a genius and no mistake. The fact that we have been paying money to France to help "solve the issues" even when we were still members of the Great European Project and with virtually no worthwhile effect, shows how well that works. The mainland nations in Europe, particularly France, are quite happy to look the other way while the migrants make their to the channel coast. No Euro nation wants an extra 30,000 or so largely uneducated, largely unqualified, often barely civilised and mostly single males arriving unannounced every year. And of course the EU has tied itself in knots with it's Human Rights posturing which prevents it from legally stemming the flow of economic migrants pretending to be in need of asylum. Then we have the numpties who appear to think we should just carry on letting migrants in and who will support and fund legal action to prevent the government from doing anything like send them to Rwanda. Want to bet most of these do gooders live in 99% white, very middle class leafy villages in Surrey or similar and a world away from the realities of coping with over migration.
  17. Go back a little further, look a little harder and stop buying in to the marketing. The real history starts before the term European Union had been thought of. Even the last bullet point is economically unworkable. The primary purpose of the Euro is to keep Germany's export pricing competitive around the world which wouldn't be the case if they retained their own currency. And of course it has the exact opposite effect for the Greeks and several other Eurozone states with their economies based on primary produce such as foodstuffs and tourism. What's more, the EU is the only major trading bloc who's share of world markets is continually shrinking.
  18. You need to do a little research. From long before the Treaty of Rome was signed, the goal has always been a grouping of once sovereign states under a single governing body. Most Prime ministers, Presidents etc have chosen not to tell the general public of course as it would be massively unpopular, which is why it's being realised by baby steps and stealth, but be in no doubt the long term goal remains the same.
  19. What you seem to miss and what the government always misses is that there's a big hole in the system. Pensioners generally don't qualify for any of the help dished up to benefit claimants unless they receive pension credit. Then they automatically get tons of extras like free eye care, free dentist, free hearing aids, housing benefit, grants for insulation and boilers etc. and of course now they'll get the extra £650 as well. None of this is available to pensioners who've taken care of their finances. Now though, many pensioners who've previously been getting along comfortably without dipping into savings are now finding that they're already worse off by £1,000 pa and after October they'll be worse off by at least £2,000 pa and probably nearer £4,000 pa by the end of 2023. And all that comes with none of the perks, extras and top up cash that the benefit recipients will get. There's talk of a a 10% rise in state pensions which offset some of it, but the self sufficient pensioners are still staring at a big drop in living standards. Simply put, just because someone isn't on benefits it doesn't necessarily mean they're well off, and just because someone is on benefits it doesn't necessarily mean they're poor. The benefits system is easy to abuse and, as I've said before, I can't think of anyone on benefits I've known or know who isn't abusing the system in one sense or another - and that includes several little old ladies who are otherwise as honest as the day is long. Fiddling the benefits system, either by hiding savings or working for cash or under the radar is standard practice in this part of the world.
  20. Yes, and the new Spanish Inquisition has already started. Think 2030 and the only new cars will be electric because of course religion is all about propaganda so the gullible and the smug really think their electric car is Zero Emissions - which of course is total nonsense.
  21. At the last count there have been 140 "Climate Models" built supposedly using proven data and known science to predict how climate change would develop. Also at the last count not one of them has ever been anywhere near getting it right. As for Al Gore he is a major player in the incredibly lucrative Carbon Trading business which exists to sluice off multi millions of dollars from deals which enable the redistribution of wealth from rich nations who under estimate their emissions and then buy Carbon Credits from poorer nations who (cough) accidentally over estimate their emissions and therefore have surplus credits to sell. In a nutshell it pays Gore very well to keep building the hysteria. His film was nothing more than a sales pitch and one that is riddled with scare mongering falsehoods. Even though most of his made up set pieces such as the laughable "Hockey Stick" graph have been totally discredited, there are still many who believe the new religion.
  22. And not so long ago either, which is why the Co2 hysterics only include figures after 1970. They wouldn't be able to spread so much fear and panic if they were to start measuring from say, 1900.
  23. For which theory there is absolutely no scientific proof whatsoever. What can be proved is the manipulation of climate data to try and reinforce what is at best circumstantial evidence that human activity is driving climate change. Whilst I accept that the climate has changed over my life, I was born at a time when, despite a massive increase in manufacturing and associated fossil fuel consumption, the climate had entered a cooling phase following the very hot period in the first 40 of so years of the 20th century. By 1970 there was a huge upsurge in warnings of imminent climate catastrophe, exactly as we have now, except back then the scientists were predicting a new ice age just around the corner.
  24. Windows PCs start to deteriorate in performance and reliability from the day you start using them. Eventually they become pretty near unusable, such that the only solution is a clean reinstall from scratch. For this you will need a bootable CD/DVD or memory stick containing what's called the Windows ISO file for your version of windows and all your files, pictures, email accounts and history etc, IOW basically everything, backed up. This exercise is not for the inexperienced, especially when it comes to reloading drivers and setting up email and internet. I haven't done it for over 10 years now which means I'm well out of practice, so I'd be quite nervous even though I've done it dozens of times.
