  1. I mean there were birds on the field (it's a big field) and in surrounding trees and when one came into the decoys I shot it and the rest approx 200 fled never to be seen again for a good hour then they started to drop into surrounding trees and then onto the field. I shot another bird and the whole lot fled again for another hour. There were no birds using the usual flightline for the 3 or so hours I was there so no steady stream of birds like I have seen before. Any advice appreciated..........
  2. Still very much learning so be gentle:- Set up this morning on newly cut field with high hopes but it was just so still - a few hundred on the field but one shot and all gone and at least an hour before anything came back, another shot and ditto. Very frustrating. Is it ever possible to have a decent day in totally still conditions?
  3. Will's pigeon shooting by Will Garfit published by BASC is excellent
  4. Do you have any more/better pictures please? Roughly how much use has it had since you got it?
  5. Ok - I currently have one flapper (and decoys) and I'm thinking of adding to my decoying equipment with either another flapper or a magnet - any opinions if it had to be an either or? (I'm a newbie building up slowly)
  6. Got the Will Garfit book - yes it's very helpful. I'll keep an eye out for the you tube tv - I've seen some of them Cheers
  7. Many thanks for all the replies - much appreciated. I have for many years subscribed to a fishing mag - and yes it is very repetitive! From the comments I'm sure a few copies of sporting gun will help a newcomer though and many members on here have already been very helpful. Cheers
  8. As a newcomer to the sport I'm looking to gather some knowledge - which magazines would you recommend? I'm particularly interested in pigeon/rough shooting with a bit of lower end pheasant shooting and some advice on second hand shotgun purchases but general shooting stuff too. Thanks FS
  9. Ditto further up too. Saw hundreds on rape on a field next to 19 today just south of seaham turn about 3.30pm today tho and loads more dropping in.
  10. A newbie so please be kind...... I managed a few shots on rape on Sunday but like many others I've read about I'm suffering from the birds having lots of fields to pick from and therefore not getting any consistent shooting - the odd group come over , some decoy and I get a few shots, then quiet for half an hour or so etc. IF it snows is there any advantage for me in that i can uncover a section to decoy over and the birds will have less options or am I just kidding myself? The rape is not a crop as such as its grown in after last years crop and will be ploughed in anyway so no harm in brushing it?
  11. Ditto - very frustrating
