  2. Hi, I’m looking for a good quality modern multi shot PCP hunting rifle .177 12ftlb, preferably a full set up but would consider rifle only at the right price. I’m located in Lanarkshire, Scotland & due to the current restrictions the closer the better and of course I have an air weapon licence. PM’s welcome, thank you.
  3. I always go for a clean head shot, I eat them so that’s the sensible option for me, as previously mentioned, no body shots.

  6. Count me in. Here's my Midland, no1 of a pair, I don't have the other but cash always waiting. Restored a number of years ago by David McKay Brown Gunmakers of Bothwell. Circa 1937 with some interesting history. More pics
  7. Hello again, thanks to everyone who replied with constructive comment and DM's. I took these on board and spent some time mid week at one of my local permissions with a pattern board, different chokes and a selection of cartridges. I'm not going to bother giving my step by step findings because some of the more pedantic readers will no doubt find fault somewhere or other! Basically, steel 32g 4's through a 1/2 choke seemed to pattern nicely at 25-30yds. With this choice, I went out yesterday on crop protection duty.....ahhh the hardship ? I had productive morning and definitly noticed a difference with my kill ratio and clean kills too. There's still a little more testing left to do this coming week but on the whole I'm more positive with steel than I was a week ago. Happy hunting. TLR.
  8. Thankyou, just a bit of constructive and helpful advice on what others have experienced with steel is welcoming ?
  9. Hello everyone. Before today I had some feeding and stove piping issues with my new Lithgow, I have put approx 300 rounds through it to ‘break it in’. This late afternoon/early evening is the first I’ve used it thereafter. No feed issues to report ? but....I am still undecided on what ammo to use, CCI 40g subs was a tiny bit more accurate out at around 100-120yds, but had 2 misfires, Winchester 42g subs were fine (used 1000’s in my old Cz with no issues) but just not quite as accurate in the Lithgow...decisions decisions ? Anyway, there’s another hour of daylight so I’m off to see if if there’s roe buck on the way home......not with the .22lr..
  10. Anyway....if anyone has any SENSIBLE informarion or advice, I'm willing to to take it on board. Thankyou.
  11. With respect, I have no need for anyone to judge our ability, we get all of our lead cartridges supplied FOC by the 1000's because of the acreage of crop protection we cover for one of the biggest growers in the country! Seeing the video, shooting is too close and your bag looks like it would be unfit for consumption....a laughable 50yds ??????
  12. That's why I'm asking, curious to know what others are having success with.
  13. Hi There, my friend and I had the potential for a decent bag of pigeons today, close in over decoys. During the winter we got chatting to a fellow member on our pheasant syndicate who keeps and works falcons, we agreed that if he supplied steel cartridges he could get our birds less one or two for the pot or for future decoys, happy days for everyone! We got 250 28g 7's, to kick us off in early spring, our first outing was under a flight line with fast birds in a wind skirting some trees, we had some good shots and some not, but kept an open mind, the next couple of outings only the odd few so still too early to say, on another outing we came across birds feeding on clover late in the afternoon, after a fair bit of banging we didn't have much, about 10 I think but I did notice that what most weren't a clean kill and I was certain most flying away were pricked. Today was perfect, a brisk wind, birds using a flight line and looking to feed, the decoys/flapper were doing a great job.....but we weren't lol!!! Birds sailing in to the wind in 2's 3's 4's lining up and firing then automaticly moving on to the next bird with split second confidence only to find the first ain't dropped, the concentration levels stepped up a gear and we knew we were in the zone, yes we did get some but nowhere near what we'd expect for 80 odd shots at that range. Of the 14, yes 14, only 2 were stone dead. I don't like to read too much in to things and judge for myself the end result, perhaps a heavier load larger pellet size would help? It'll be an embarrassment asking for more cartridges after handing over a measly amount of birds ? Anyway, what's your experience using steel on live quarry? Thanks TLR
  14. Fair comment fella. I had 13 years of service from my CZ, just like I had similar from a previous Bruno, was that an upgrade then? For me, like now yes, more modern, lovely build, crisper trigger, clearer scope, quieter mod etc etc etc. Since my OP I have read about this issue of feeding and stove piping which is acknowledged by the manufacturer, to say the least I have been very disappointed that they even suggest that the end user i.e. me, to F around with a magazine!! I was out tonight and cycled around 80 faultless rounds and I can honestly say that the Lithgow is more accurate than my old CZ, particularly at longer range...........maybe in 13 years it'll be time for another upgrade, or indeed downgrade ??
  15. Firstly, thanks for the replies. Yes, the last bullet was almost vertical at times, the bolt would have crushed or bent it if I had pushed hard enough, the fact that it's also scuffing on the way in is annoying too. I'm planning on going out with it on Monday and pay closer attention, take notes photos etc. before returning it to the shop.
  16. So, I fancied an upgrade from my trusty old CZ452. I decided on a Lithgow LA101 .22lr with the trimmings, first impressions, lovely......but I think I've just bought myself a Lada with RR money. Zeroing at 50yd seemed well then I noticed the odd flyer, after a little more concentration the cycling of rounds required a little more or less force from a supposed slick rifle, I took a closer look at the magazine supplied with the rifle and it is a proper cheapo. Anyway, I loaded up with a 10 shot mag that I've had faultless years of use with my CZ......and the same results, bullets scuffing, scraping, jamming and manually having to pick from the breech ? The excuses are ringing in my ears already ?
