If the REFUGE that is the HARD SHOULDER is taken away and used as a LIVE LANE there is NO REFUGE.

So it's a bit like a breakdown in lane 3 then  ? Pushing your car across 2 live lanes is not really an option  ?

The ONLY way Smart Motorways are safe is when they are EMPTY.

Bloody awful idea from the start.

The only way ANY motorway is safe is when it is empty. Or any other road for that matter. I read this week that road workers are being attacked by irate idiot drivers who dislike having their journey disrupted. While these clowns are driving on our roads, no road is safe.

I am merely a child compared to some of you lot, but even I remember the shilling gas meter in the fifties. And the proper dustmen and galvanised bins. And the rag and bone man giving kids goldfish. I remember Grandma washing using a ponch and dolly tub, and a rubbing board, in her outside wash house with it’s built-in boiler, coal fired of course. (Very posh!)
My wife’s father was still delivering coal on his back in hessian sacks from his old Bedford three tonner when we met in 1970, and he retired in ‘73.
I was born in 1948 and my Father at the time had a milk round which he delivered on a three wheeler trike. So my birth certificate reads: Father’s occupation: milk roundsman.
I suspect many more should read the same!

Remember the shilling gas meters, in the 1960's I was fitting them  !   😄

  4. You mentioned that you 'feel' the heavier gun more, after some shooting. I suggest that is caused by using muscles that you do NOT normally use, but would ease after you did a bit more shooting, especially if you practice your gun mounting at home between shoots. I would look for an average weight of close to 8lbs. especially if you plan on doing 100 bird shoots. I am nearly 80 and use an 8lbs gun with 30" barrels.  I try to shoot at least once a week using a mix of 24 and 28 gram cartridges, I am not aware of any recoil issues.

Thank you, I did. I have had 4 different devices from the local TV/Audio shop, none of them have worked. The device is provided by, and installed, by a TV engineer, via the local council. He said the new sets do not have audio facilities, although they do have Bluetooth.  I am hoping to borrow a set of headphones off the Grandkids,  to see if they will work. I thank you for your help.

  6. I have a 'loop system' fitted in my lounge that enabled me to hear the TV direct into my hearing aids. We recently changed the TV to an all singin an dancin model. Except, it is so good, I can no longer use my loop system as it was intended to be used.  There is no audio leads output, so I can't connect the loop system. I am now stuck with a microphone dangling by the sets speaker. That picks up EVERYTHING in the room, except the TV.  So much for progress  !    🙄

  7. I have a feeling he was referring to the YEAR of his birth and NOT his actual age. I know we are all living longer, but I think 82 is leaving it a bit late to enter our sport. The time it takes to get a Shotgun Certificate nowadays,  he might just not require it  ??    😂

I would go with the gun that fits you the best, rather than worry about the guns age. I have a S x S that is close to getting a telegram from the King  !

I am currently using a Classic Doubles (Winchester)  made around 1990. It handles superbly and does everything my later model guns will do.

There was a program a while back about a Bulgarian small holder.

Came to England claimed various benefits whilst driving round in a van everyday collecting and selling scrap.

Then returned home to collect his pregnant wife to have the baby here followed by further claims for child benefits.

Has now returned home with over £40000 and bought more land and still receives various benefits.

You forgot to mention his two house here as well  ??

a report of abuse, whether it may be domestic or some other is MASSIVELY DIFFERENT to ACTUAL (proven) abuse/violence ACTUALLY taking place.

how I read this is,and i may be wrong,is you can be found "guilty" with no court appearance or evidence on just the word of a disgruntled wife/partner/neighbour etc, etc, etc.

Not quite, you can be prosecuted for domestic abuse WITHOUT a statement of complaint. When I was working, some 25 years ago, if the complainant withdrew their statement (which most did) the job never ever got to Court. The Police still have to prove the case, but it can be done, even if the complainant refuses to assist them.

No, I believe they won't. They'll do quite the opposite.

If it is for public safety, they have an obligation to do it as part of their budget. If it's for administration, it could be argued it needs funding.

This is the beauty of trials and demos. They don't need approvals or discussions.

The tricky part is stopping it becoming the status quo.

The Police Service in general has been heavily criticised for the way in which they did, or did not, deal with domestic abuse. Most of this was due to the complainant either not wishing to proceed, or withdrawing their complaint before it reached Court. The law was changed to allow Police to arrest an Offender and put them before a Court, complaint or no complaint. Hence the now newly formed Departments to deal with domestic abuse. This trial by 5 Police Forces, certainly would make it appear they take domestic abuse very seriously. It would certainly look good on their Annual Reports too.  "We have revoked X amount of firearms Certificates this year, from premises  after reports of domestic abuse"  !

Don't burn them please. If they're lead shot you're going to melt the shot and cause a portion of it to vaporise.

Just cut cartridges open and salvage the components or give them on to someone that reloads.

It seems a lot of the birds that are dying from eating it are vaporising too  !

  12. Connor, that may have been specific advice for my gun, but I have read several articles in the shooting press, and I'm sure that you have too, where Representatives of various shooting bodies have advocated Bismuth loaded cartridges for older guns. Usually accompanied by "but you don't shoot that many cartridges on a game day", in an effort to justify paying their ridiculous price. I have used 'Bismuth ' cartridges in my gun, and quite frankly, I thought they were rubbish. I was bringing stuff down on a 'wing and a prayer', which I know I would have killed cleanly with lead. I even had someone ask how old the cartridges were  ?   It would appear that the 'earlier' Bismuth shot was too hard and therefore not killing cleanly. So, how hard is steel then  ? I am thankful that my shooting career of over 65 years is coming to an end, and as a Life Member of BASC,  I have to say I have been bitterly disappointed with some of actions or lack of, in the latter years. We have already agreed to disagree in previous posts and this looks like another.

  13. I have these, which have been on my previous vehicles.  The younger badge of the 2 suffered damage, as did my car. Caused by some anti's coming away from the Waterloo Cup, in the early 80's.

Presume that is a tongue in cheek comment? Which organisation did you get that from please? There are various options for various gauges.

BASC has published a list of alternative shotgun cartridges on the market on its website here:

    https://basc.org.uk/download/358749/?tmstv=1685980747

It was quoted to me by a representative on the BASC stand at last years Game Fair. I had asked about my best course of action for using 'alternative ' shot through my 100 years old Westley Richards, which left the makers bored I/C & 3/4 chokes and with 2 1/2"  chambers. As I have all but given up game shooting now, it is irrelevant anyway. I shall simply use it for growing runner beans up  !
